We have checked with the local Y, plus the local public swimming pool. Technician that was here this morning suggested the local truck stop. He even gave us the name of the person to contact. I really liked this guy's attitude. The guy yesterday was complaining about how hard the job would be, etc.

I wish I hadn't gone to knitting today, as I had my heart broken by a woman I have known for many years. She decided I was a good target today. Probably because I was late getting there. I won't be going back to that group. I was the treasurer and my name is on the bank account. Oh, well. Actually... I am speaking out of being hurt. I won't leave the rest of the group in a lurch, but I will stick around.

My emotions are doing the wave thing.
I do not have to cook or fix lunch today for them had a pizza pocket.

I'm sorting flashcards that have been used in homeschooling for many years. There are many sets of them, and I think it is time to send most of them to their next home. They have been kept in neat multiple card storage boxes. I am going back & forth with myself whether I will ever use these flashcards with DS14 in the future. I'm going to let them sit for a bit while I think through his high school homeschool curriculum.

CI: and yes, it is pretty toasty here too! 91, "feels like 100" according to weather app. We are under an excessive heat warning. It also says the high today will be 97/98. High tomorrow & Saturday -- 100 -- and I'm sure the "feels like" temp will be higher until we get rain. Rain is a slim possibility, but not really likely till Monday. How am I dealing with it? Staying INSIDE.
Hmmm-- just got a severe thunderstorm watch notice on my phone -- in effect till 7:00 pm. Who knows...

(((blessed))) This is just unreal, that you are having to deal with a broken ankle in the midst of all the other stuff going on!!! I do admire you so much, for being out there working in spite of this and for your amazing attitude!

Kathryn, I can beat you on wasting the morning ANY day... shaking my head... it took me almost two hours to get out of the house.

Helped dh with his breakfast (don't get excited, ladies -- this just means I got the milk & OJ out of the refrigerator and put it back for him, plus his jello and arthritis supplement drink, and a pain pill.) I also helped him lay out his meds for tomorrow, and ate my breakfast with him.
Then I colored my hair and s2s (but no makeup), went to the post office, and paid the gas bill.
Now that I'm home, I need to
[x] wash some dishes that are STILL in the sink since dgs' party the other night
[x] fold a small load of laundry that is still in the dryer
[x] put on makeup
[x] PUPA in dgrands' room (which is a wreck, since the party)
4x4? Sigh... I have no motivation or energy at all. But I WILL force myself to make a good showing, so I can report back to y'all!

[x] sorted out ds' jeans and pants for charity drive at church -- got the "okay" from him Tuesday, and saved two of each type for dgs to try on. Still have probably a dozen to take to church. DS is never going to wear any of these again... and from measuring dgs' church pants, I think he may not fit in the 34s either. There was one 36 that dgs might wear. Khakis don't get a lot of wear, and jeans don't matter if they are faded.

Harriet, that is such a nice report from the baseball tournament! Congratulations to your dgs and his team; placing in the top 4 is no small feat! And it is so nice that everyone behaved themselves in such a good way. That is not always the case, and it is worth a lot for young people to see that in the adults in charge!

Twins, I feel (((HUGS))) are in order for all the socializing your dh wants in you lives. My ddad was kinda like that... he was the oldest of three, and one of a bunch of cousins, and they were all very close, plus all very social. Dmom says they always had people at their house -- a friend, a cousin, aunt, someone. Being an only child of slightly older parents, dmom never experienced this at all growing up, and when she first met ddad, she loved all the fun and commotion at my grandparents' house... BUT... as dmom and ddad got older, busier, had me and my brother, and then FINALLY were empty-nesters... she sorta wished he would quit inviting someone along every time they went anywhere. The time he invited his best friend and the friend's wife to Christmas breakfast was just about the last straw! I think dmom could have cheerfully killed him that day. (JUST KIDDING, but y'all know what I mean.)
Anyway -- I don't blame you for wanting a quiet supper at home with just the two of you.

We are planning to go out, however, (Braves are not playing) and dh suggested seeing the new Indiana Jones movie. He said, "Let's see how I feel after I get a shower."
Tomorrow night will be social for us -- a cousin who lives two states away is traveling through and * THANK THE GOOD LORD * staying with dbil tomorrow night... but we are all planning to go out for supper together -- dbil, his girlfriend, cousin & his wife, dh & me, ds & dgrands. DDIL will be working.

"When a zither starts to play... You'll remember yesterday... In its haunting strain, Vienna lives again..." Theme from The Third Man, a 1950s movie starring Orson Welles. Dmom had the piano music I think, when she was taking lessons and it is always her go-to in this song lyric game, LOL.
"Once I had a girl on Rockytop, half-bear the other half cat... wild as a mink but sweet as soda pop..." As you can imagine, this song is a favorite in our family. DH and dgs sing it EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY NIGHT because it is dgs' go-to song when he gets to sing with his daddy at nursing homes or such gatherings. DGS was beyond delighted when none of us got it!
The game is not THAT hard, because ANY song will work with the "target" word -- the hard part is coming up with a word that is not common to a dozen songs.

I'm home from workout - it was a good one! I've met my step goal for the day and am on track for the week. If I make it, that is 7500 steps daily to total 52500 for the week.

We are very smoky with unhealthy air quality here but we're supposed to get rain and maybe that will knock some particles out of the air. The only benefit to the smoke is that it's keeping the heat down.

I was working on DAR supplemental application earlier so I'm going to continue on that.

((Bw2) Oh my goodness, not again? I am so sorry - have you been evaluated for osteoporosis or is it just very active dogs around? I'd be frustrated with my dh too and you have the best ever attitude going right now.

So glad Nancy's roofing project is getting toward the end. The pressure thing to run the nail gun gets to me.

Lucy, thanks for the sympathy. I remembered that these dfriends are going to Shiva tonight for the guy who died Saturday. His widow had COVID so the Shiva at their house the day of the funeral was cancelled. This one is supposed to be outside on their big porch, hoping the weather holds and smoke dissipates for them.

Harriet, I'll look for that hummus sweetened with dates. Of course, that's sugar too but sure would be good with a fruit tray if we're entertaining?

Yes, Twins, he's definitely an AU fan, but just as much a bluegrass fan. Kinda sad around here this week, hearing that Bobby Osborne passed away. I'm so glad we took that spur of the moment trip to the Midnight Jamboree last year and dgs got to meet him.

I edited my earlier post -- laundry and dishes are put away now, despite two interruptions -- and I must do makeup because dh is in the shower now.
Interruption 1: dmom stopped by to give me a check to mail to the plumber who works for all of us, and I had to stop and call him (and leave a message) to get his address. I didn't really stop to talk to dmom but finished washing my dishes while she talked to us.
Interruption 2: thought about something and searched on amazon for a minute, then decided to ask y'all --

Does anyone have a recommendation re: comfortable MOISTURE-WICKING underwear for women? I heard an ad for Tommy John's men's briefs that claimed they would be MUCH more comfortable for weather such as we are having these days. I wear all-cotton briefs for the most part, but y'all... five minutes at a ballgame and I feel like I am sitting in a wet bathing suit. I am sorry if this is TMI but I do sweat a LOT... and I am always afraid it shows through my pants even! TJ makes a "cool cotton" for women that they say is moisture-wicking, but they are pretty pricey. OTOH, it would be worth it if they really do keep you feeling drier. Just wondered if anyone else had a solution to this problem.
I've never tried the moisture-wicking shirts, btw, but dh has one and says it is NOT cooler than cotton... so I'm hesitant to try. But speaking of being an AU fan... it's going to be HOT in South Alabama at 2:30 Labor Day weekend...

Then a few min. later dgson needs a sharpie any color but black, so I get out the rainbow of em I've had here for a while but
hardly ever use dgson warns me it will be in rough shape after. No worries I say as I hand him a blue one.
We decide ice cold sodas can be for when they to the dump run.

Shed is half done now.
They will pick up decking materials after they unload the trailer.
The roof on house and shed are both done.
They will do the trailer & get new decking materials later.

Tearing out the old deck tomorrow it sounded like.

I made up a large supply of electrolyte powder and then measured it into daily doses for DH and myself. I add electrolyte powder to our daily drinks each morning.

I am having to push myself to do things. I feel better once I get going but it is a struggle to start.

Dh and I had Chinese food from a local place. Dh went and picked it up. I just wasn't in any mood to cook.

The hedge is totally gone, including stumps. The crew is out there tidying up. They took off twice today for over an hour each time, so it's no like they worked for the entire day. Our driveway looks massive now that there aren't limbs hanging over the entire north side. Neighbour told us how much it cost. Our half of the fence on that side will cost less.

I had a surprise visit from someone that I go to Thursday and Friday knitting with. She popped by to give me a hug and to make sure I was okay. Unfortunately, I think it will be a long time before I will let anyone become such a good, trusted, friend again. The (mean) woman knew almost everything about me. I also talked to another lady on the phone.
