when the temperature is over 100F it isn't as much fun to drive around in an old pickup without a/c.

We have an '88 pickup with no ac. Oh my goodness... We try to drive it once a week, and dh thinks the vent air is enough but no, thank you... I am going to be rolling the window down (which he doesn't like because then he can't hear the radio. ) It's not as if the radio is all that great either -- if you try to adjust the volume up or down, all you hear is static. Oh -- and the paint is peeling on the side that is exposed to the sun in our carport. But it runs pretty well... so we keep it. It is fine in an emergency, and I'll drive it out to dmom's when I'm taking her to the doctor or something IN HER CAR. However, that was one reason for wanting to make sure dmom's truck is in good shape, because dh says when we replace the transmission in the Tahoe, we are going to have to drive her truck. Even he does not want this old truck to be our only transportation. He won't drive it to church, either.
As my dmom says, "Poor folks have poor ways."

HARMONY -- I was hoping to hear from you also!!! I think brain fog is a natural part of this Covid thing.

You sound busy, Cathy. And that is too bad about the neighbors of your dmil. Sometimes I miss living in town with neighbors all around, but then I see something like this going on and I think, nah... better to be out here by ourselves. We can see 4 of our neighbor's houses easily, including dbil, but it is a long enough walk that we would get in the car and drive over there if we needed to visit one of them.

You're doing great, too, Nancy. WTG on getting the WHB done. That is such a hard habit for me to establish. (One of many, actually.) My problem is, the house really doesn't look like it NEEDS vacuuming every week, and I know P&P said to clean before it does LOOK like it needs it... but I still struggle.

I also know that action creates motivation, not the other way around... and still... I struggle.
For example, today, I am still wearing the t-shirt I slept in. I have napped as much as dgd would allow, and finally got dressed enough to take her to the other grandmother's house and brought dgs over here. No accomplishments at all to list for the day.

Twins, I try to teach dgrands to call adults Mr./Ms. Whatever... but I've never really noticed when people call me Ms. Lucy... I guess I was Mrs. Lee so long at school that it just goes over my head. Ms. Whatever. Sometimes I do notice when former students call me by my first name only, and I think, hmmm... I didn't know that we are that familiar now... I guess because I always called my former teachers by their titles, except for those who made it plain that I should use their first names. And even then, it was really hard to switch.

Harriet, I am glad you understood what I was saying about the movie. Yes -- one expects more from film! With a play, it's always kind of fascinating to see how MUCH they can do with one small stage... but when they are filming for a movie screen, one just expects more realistic, bigger settings and backgrounds. The small town production of The Miracle Worker here in North Alabama is wonderful... and I once saw Camelot live with Richard Harris and was just spell-bound. OTOH, the movie versions of both of those are obviously MOVIES, filmed with the big screen in mind. And I loved both of those. But yes... this movie of The Hiding Place was just a disappointment. The book is definitely better!
* If you haven't seen The Miracle Worker, look for the newer version, where (I think!) Patty Duke plays Anne Sullivan. Lucas Black plays Helen's step-brother.

So -- I need to s2s and get this day started -- before it's bedtime again. DS wants to go out and eat with us (Krystal hamburgers, no big deal) and I really would like to contact my student/geek and get my stuff back from him if he's available and dh thinks we have time. I don't know that we can fit it all in -- student is in different direction than hamburgers. But whatever we do, I need to get started. It's after 3:00 pm.

I just copied this from my FB memories a year ago, and even though I have no children 24/7, I DO have dgrands probably 3 or 4 days a week, and this is something to think about, and something I will try to remember:

Upon finding out we have a big family the other day, a young mom said incredulously, "seven kids?! How did you get anything done?!" And i gave her the typical answers: we didn't have seven two-year-olds; they grow up and help; we hardly got to hold the baby ourselves, etc. But i thought about her question for several days and what i wished i would have said is, "There were years, and there are still days, when i didn't get anything done in the eyes of anyone else....but i am getting kids "done," and that really is the priority at the moment. You would be fooling yourself if you thought that you would have so much to show from your days, but those days add up to years of investing in the most precious people, a job i wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

Dug out a shrub and got it in the wagon and around front to be hauled off.
on trash day one of these times there is room.
Got zero yellow squash and 2 zucchini this year and a handful of toms not quite sure why I garden lol!
Maybe I just need to stick to flowers.

This has been a heavy cleaning day. Mostly me, since Dd24 and HRH had their own agendas and specialty work, but each of them did help me some. I was the one generally busy with general things.

Tired and surprised that I don't have more steps on the watch, but I guess that's because I was continually working in one space for a time, then moving to another for more time.

Pedometers, however interesting, are not the gauge for housework, really.

As it turns out, the young man wants to come by this evening with some takeout. I think our house has become the wedding planning space, and that's fine. We are good at pretending we aren't interested, lol. We just give them the den after dinner and conversation, and disappear to our own spaces. Mine was never the cool house when my kids were young. Maybe it is when they are grown.

Nancy - I suggest that having people in yard/garden for weeks while replacing your roof and deck would definitely affect your garden. I know it would affect mine.

I got a phone call from unknown phone number. It was DS15 calling from a borrowed phone. He took a spill as he was going over a jump ramp. Good news - DS15 is not hurt. Less good news - his cell phone didn't survive the wreck and was broken into two pieces.

Thinking through how to narrow down which cell phone to buy for DS15

I remembered Kathryn recently did some phone research so I went looking for it in the hope I could use it. I found it but it won't help me. My cell phone requirements for DS15 are different than Ken's needs.

** I am looking for as old as a phone that I can get that will still have security software updates for the next couple of years.
** I welcome buying refurbished. I've never had an unpleasant experience doing it.
** It needs to arrive here in the next couple of days. No long shipments
** must be unlocked or att compatible

The truth is that I got more from my garden this year than last year without people here!
But it was way hotter last year and toasted everything last year.
I watered better / two plants were effected by 2 diff. diseases had to come out early.
Dug out a very old shrubs way past it's prime glad I moved it to the front for trash pick up later.
Un gardening dig out is a new concept usually I wait till spring to pull out dead stuff.
I am glad to know where I've freed up space for diff. plants next year.
It was cooler today and that was helpful.
The stuff I took out was not trampled on and I gave it enough water I think two maybe not in the back.
Got squash cooked, grated the other one and sliced yet a diff. one.
Dishes are done. still need put away.
Steps are done for my goal today.
Checked where I took out the shrub and it is not too big of a hole that was great !

** DS15 is home safe** Now I can step down from worry wart high alert mode.

Phone selected and ordered. I am experiencing brain fog and didn't do the best analysis, but I think I hit all my requirements.
In the meantime, we have a Note 5 that still works but won't hold a charge for more than a couple hours. I took the sim card out of DS15 broken phone and put it into the Note 5. He will have to charge it multiple times a day, but he can make/receive calls.

Now I am going to relax as much as possible.
Oh wait....I don't have nursery workers for the 3 services in the morning. I need to go beat the bushes for August volunteers.

Nursery volunteers are in place for tomorrow's services.
I told DH that I'm not going to church tomorrow, and I will also not be attending the afternoon birthday party for his 94 years DAunt. I'm keeping my germs at home.

Sorry I did not post for so long yesterday. I think I was the last poster of the day, or next to last. I had an awful set-back yesterday and was just brain-dead (not really, it just felt that way) and I slept almost all day long. Today I've had a couple long naps but I am feeling a bit better. I think getting some of my paperwork / mail sorted out today has helped me feel better too. I am very very disappointed that the mail lady never came by. These things of mine really needed to be on their way. Since she hadn't been by, I added to the pile when I discovered the truck insurance needs to be in next big town south of us by next week and there is no pickup tomorrow. I went out at 10:30 and brought it all back in.

Speaking of having no a/c... the big truck we're trying to sell off is a 1987 GMC P32. With no a/c. That thing would be like air conditioning a house! Look that model up. Yes, it's that big. I see similar trucks used as UPS trucks or laundry delivery trucks or I've seen some as F rito L ay delivery trucks. This one was used as an A ramark Laundry Truck before we bought it used. It had front to back steel pipe rods all through the ceiling to hold laundry. We took those out and DH and I put custom wood shelves on both sides and those sides are full of tools right now. If you see how big this truck is you will understand why it took so long to remove all the lettering on the sides and front & back. Also, how I have been able to use it to work off the top to reach things.

LadyM, I'm sure glad DS15 is safely back from his fun day and is not hurt. Thank you for worrying about me.

I have very important issue to take care of Monday morning pronto. The agents from insurance firm never called and I waited for them, then I got too sick to mess with this issue. I had thought I had homeowners insurance set up...but paperwork from them says otherwise. I need to straighten this out and only have a few days to do it now. I am disappointed they did not return my call weeks ago. I got stuff in the mail which does not make sense with what I got from the insurance people themselves. Sigh...Florida's homeowner insurance is seriously messed up. I wish our government had done a better job with it.

DH has been outside working in the yard. He got the rest of the yard all weeded and the front cut. The back he says he will do tomorrow. He is not feeling well either and is pushing himself. Regardless of his physical problems, he has always had more energy than I have. Comes from a lifetime of working hard I guess. I had to show him where all the food is to eat in the refrigerator. Since I haven't been making up his plates, he's been unable to feed himself. At least he is eating better now.

While the young man was here, ds and family came by. They had bought us slaw at a local restaurant that sells theirs in pints. I gave some individually packaged "tears" eye drops to our green-eyed boy, who had very red irritated eyes from a swim in a pool without his goggles.

Ds, as usual, played rough with Tobias until he got a scratch. He has done this his whole life - he loves to play with cats and loves to see if his reflexes are as good as theirs, despite every textbook would tell him "nope".

Our takeout food from a Japanese restaurant was absolutely delish - best I've had. I probably should have made it two meals!

Enjoyed the online prayer meeting tonight so much. No one wanted to leave, telling each other goodbye until next week. Finally, one of the guys said, "okay, Waltons, go to bed now".
