Blessed - BWTG on being self-aware. You make it look easy which I know it isn't!
please tell me how the rutabaga recipes went!
I tried to like it, but I am tossing in the towel and conceding that I am not a fan of rutabaga.
**Strike 1 - Rutabaga is expensive! I was shocked to pay $2.98 at WM for one rutabaga but I did it with the thought that I could grow my own in the future.
** Strike 2 - Rutabaga has a waxy surface that must but cut off. It felt awkward and almost dangerous to be using a knife in that manner. I tried using a peeler, but the surface was too hard. It was more difficult & took me much longer to prepare than a potato.
** Strike 3 - Rutabaga took twice as long to cook as russet & sweet potatoes do.
** Strike 4 - It was not pleasant to my taste buds. After several bites I ended up throwing it into the trash.

I would love to know what everyone has learned during their lifetime?
It's hot for me but not hot for dh. I had put today for cleaning off the patio but that area is in full sun.
So far I picked up dirt pile.
washed old plastic recyclable pots
dogs found mice in the garage and one big mouse squeaked and ran past me. So dogs are out of the garage until I catch the mice - I will first try the bucket way and bring them far away and deposit them by some covered land. Otherwise I will have to use traps. Some of the bird seed fell and since then the cooler weather has brought in these critters. I don't like killing things but I can't have mice again.
time to do more work outside
ta ta - dd older is flying to Florida - dd younger is overwhelmed and will give dd older the job of helping my d mom pack - she is over packed but right now is happy as can be. keeping my fingers crossed that mom doesn't stress out!
Hi d lady!
I want to grow rutabagas - I just am confused by the timing of planting seed in zone 5B. it's weird that the instructions say to plant it in fall but takes so long to grow. My brother loves it but I am not sure if I have ever eaten it!
I didn't know that it was so expensive. I am so sorry it didn't work!
Maybe I will try turnips - I used to grow parsnips when I was a young mom. My kids liked it roasted with carrots.
--------------------------
I think growing up in my family - no violence, alcohol or drugs like that - just strong and over powering personalities, made me get help. (I saw a dr. 2 times a week, for a year, I really think this really helped me to be nauseatingly insightful :lol:b

Yes, LadyM, I was thinking of foibles in relation to the discussion yesterday. What's a fobile v what's autism, or just personality?
I napped awhile with the ddog. I might nap some more. I'm still running a low grade temp. I was going to make chili for us tonight but OTOH it's 83 degrees, I don't feel great, and we have leftovers from eating out last night.
I think I have used rutabagas in a soup to replace potatoes once. When cooked down as a soup, I think it was indistinguishable from potatoes.

Back from free day Friday fun did some thrifting and found wheel burrow I've been looking for all summer at an estate sale!
Some other goodies at the thrift shops in the nest town.
Got a bit of rain so I do not have to mow.
Gotta go pre rinse fabric for fun project next!

Gee, all I had was maybe a sentence to say about perfectionism/sidetrackability and then I read what blessed said in her extensive self-awareness and now I feel inadequate. I think I have the foible of poor attention to my foibles. Is that a thing?
Seriously, however, (she straightens an imaginary collar), I have plenty of the stuff. Also, the fact that I would read blessed's lengthy consideration with such attention shows that I highly regard people with foibles.
While pondering those deep thoughts,
The Holiday Thread for 2023 is posted and here's your slide.
Um... .. Here's one that may be more serious/diagnosable than I admit. I am an introvert to the point of active avoidance of some situations, so maybe that's more than introversion. Concern about (gee, I hope it's not full-fledged fear) contention, confrontation. My dear gardening aunt had agoraphobia (fear of unfamiliar space or crowds to the point of panic attacks) but I usually rise to the social butterfly state, then crash into naps.
It comes to mind because I chatted with ds today and learned that at the meeting tomorrow evening there will be twice as many neighbors as I thought there would be, some of whom I have never met, and a multitude of opinions. He will be cool as a cucumber, but I will only look that way. I thought it to be a more intimate, quiet gathering, but I must have misunderstood.

I love people with foibles!!!
I had a lot of therapy - lol! Can you tell?

I will take it off.
I used to run away from confrontation bc it makes me uncomfortable but with my family you can't run. You just have to talk/or just listen. it makes me really uncomfortable. I don't think you are alone with it. I have to shut down after an event. dd older is the same. dd younger thrives on being constantly a social butterfly.
I am an introvert to the point of active avoidance of some situations" I think there are more people like us than we know. I get nervous when all the neighbors stand together and chat. I can chat with a stranger I meet at a store easily because it's a short time.

I do love people who are themselves! I love all of you! So creative, so kind and generous!
okay time to go outside again. dd landed in Florida but is very stressed out which makes it hard for everybody esp. dd younger. I hope she breaths in and has something to eat!

I enjoyed being out and about today. The trick is to be balanced and do home stuff as well.
If you / I am out and about too many days stuff at home does not get done.
Also being home to much I have found I loose people skills, am not used to drive in different areas as much.
So hunkering down at home so much is not all good either.
I watched a star trek before they take is off net-flicks.
Did some more journaling.
Got the dishes caught up.
I put the new to me wheel burrow under the roof in the plant cage.

I don't understand why dh is insisting on an outdoor fire tonight. It's 84 degrees out and hourly forecast doesn't even predict 70 degrees until midnight. I think he's in a smit because I wasn't feeling well and begged off making our supper.

I'm trying to not rock the boat.
I'm feeling better, temp is normal. Dh took dog around the block. I may take her again a little later. I'm feeling a little overheated after the low grade fever.

You could all probably list my foibles better than I could!
I could very easily become agoraphobic! Sometimes I feel sooo bad because I never see my old friends, make no effort to socialize, don’t involve myself in Sunday school or any small groups— yet I almost have a panic attack if someone DOES invite me to go anywhere or do anything!
Ds/ddil would probably say I’m OCD, but I’m a 1000% more relaxed than dh about a lot of things.
I do still take Paxil more for the social anxiety than as an anti-depressant, but I know I tend to dwell in the past, the what-ifs, and depress myself a lot. I’m very critical of myself and want everything to be perfect, starting with myself and extending to everyone and everything around me. I also tend to worry about silly things and over-think situations a lot.
Dh calls it “beating a dead horse.”
Day-to-day foibles? I want to sleep too much, eat too much, exercise too little, and complain about my weight.
We are in College Town. We’ve eaten supper and are watching the Braves now. Dgd didn’t make the trip (fever, sore throat) and dh is really struggling with gout. I’m sure I have the same thing Dgd does too, but We had to make the trip to get a key to the ServPro man.
Wish us luck. This is how it’s gone so far:
He called around 3:00. We told him we’d call him when we got in town.
We called at 4:00.
He was trying to finish up something, he’d call us right back.
4:30, no word from him.
We called him.
He was trying get in to with a guy closer to us. He’d call us right back.
We went ahead and ate supper.
5:30, we called him.
He says a man will call us and get the key in the morning, between 10-12.
Aaaasuuuhhhh!
