Wednesday, With Writing and Washing

Life with teenager boy -
DS15 - I got paid today. Would you go with me to cash the check?
Me: Okay
DS15 - after cashing paycheck. I need to put fuel in this vehicle. Would you ride with me to the gas station?
Me: okay
After putting gas in vehicle, DS15 attempts to drive off only to find his pickup won't go into any gears. ARGH!
Google says to check transmission fluid. It is good.
DS15 phones a friend and is told to crawl under vehicle and manually adjust shifting linkage. He tried and couldn't do it.
DS15 phones his old boss and is told the same thing. DS15 crawls under vehicle 4 times from various angles but still can't do it.
DS15 phones another friend (the one that I have been cranky about not having a job or plan for his future) and that friend immediately comes, crawls under DS15 vehicle with a zip tie and temporarily fixes it so DS15 pickup will go into gear.
Well darn it How can I be cranky about this friend when he shows up and solves the problem? I feel about 2 inches tall with my previous uncomplimentary thoughts toward him.

On the way home, MR I AM 15 AND KNOW EVERYTHING says "That was easy to solve. All I have to do is make sure I have a zip tie with me and I can fix it the next time it breaks".
Me - staring at him like he is an alien that lost his mind. No. You be thankful for this zip tie fix that enables you to get this vehicle home. Then you fix the problem correctly before driving it again.

Aren't kids just wonderful, LadyM! I've finished all the "w" jobs I can think of at the moment. In half an hour, I have to go pick some rhubarb for a lady who wants as much as I can spare. Her daughter will be stopping by to pick it up. I guess working in the garden is a "w" task. It was raining overnight and this morning, so those huge rhubarb leaves are going to be wet! Ah well... at least it's going to a good home.

In the meantime, I'm going to take a bit more me time.

I'm home from the second hour drive to take/retrieve Micro and Tomas at their groomer appts. They look so good!

We need to find a person for Tomas. He excels as an emotional support dog where he can stay full time next to his person. I really don't want to get rid of him, but I know it would be best for him. Now that Thomas is freshly groomed it seems to be the right time to find him a person. The groomer told me to put Thomas on FB. I am reluctant to do that because I want complete control over who gets him. I won't let Tomas go to a home that I am not familiar with. I will only let Thomas go to a person that I know will take good care of him. I am dreading this process because I am concerned that we will choose wrong and he won't be completely safe and cared for. argh!

Taking a sorta break yesterday gave me some clarity on a couple decisions that I needed to make. I am stepping away from being the Nursery Director at church. I am also stepping away from cooking Wednesday night meals at church. I need to reduce my responsibilities so I can keep my focus on my primary jobs of raising the teens, homeschooling DS15 and being available to monitor DH with his memory loss happening. I have sent out notifications to the leaders explaining my decision to make these changes. They all responded that they understood.

I am trying to remember where and how LH learned to weld, 4-h on the farm from his uncle or shop class possibly all three!
The sip tie fixing friend sounds like a good candidate for trade school like sil went to for learning to fix cars.

Took the ddoggo out to walk around the yard on a lead she was sniffing for mice instead of taking a potty break.

Watched an episode of heartland for my break after I folded the laundry.

Oops... nap went into overtime for both of us.

Supper will be slightly delayed. Thankfully I put the meat on a low temp before I laid down. Now it's on at a full boil to bring it up to temp. Potatoes have been cut into smaller pieces so they cook faster as well. Thankfully the only other veg are the onions that will now boil with the meat. We won't have anything else as the meat and potatoes will fill us both up. (Thankful for dh's reduced appetite!)

(((LadyM))) Yes, you have quite enough on your plate, without the extra church responsibilities. Would it be possible for your current periodontist to connect you with someone who does the laser surgery? I do not envy you having to make these decisions. I know you will be so glad when it is all over.
I had to smile at ds' confidence in the zip tie. Boys... smh... (((HUGS))) for finding new home for Tomas, too.

I did take the dgrands swimming this morning. We got up and ate at McD's and were at the pool by 10:30, and it was kinda overcast, so not unbearably hot. Two hours later, I decided we needed to call it a day, and DGS was totally in agreement. DGD, not so much.

I took them home, and I've just been lying on the couch ever since. I always feel like I'm handling all this so well... but when dgrands are not here, I really don't want to do anything except sleep. It still doesn't feel like it's really "real," I think.

I don't want to do any writing or washing or anything.

Cathy, I don't know what i'm having for supper at all. Yours sounds pretty good!

I wish I had one of those chair/step stools like my grandmother used to have. Kinda a bar stool height seat with a back, and two steps that pulled out from the bottom? Do y'all know what I'm talking about? No one has them anymore.

I got a great report at the Physical Therapists! She said I am doing very well with what I can do with my limited mobility. I'm to purchase a red Flexbar at amazon and use that as a rolling motion on the underside of my wrist to break up scar tissue. I'll see her once a week until the rod comes out of my wrist, then she says we'll get to work, lol. I can use a lightweight hammer or the Flexbar to make a windshield wiper motion back and forth. Pleased I can make a fist, touch thumb to little finger. I did some fine motor work today. All in all, I felt good about it.

I'm learning that I can use my forearm for lifting some things. I held a medicine ball to my front with my right hand and left forearm for squats yesterday. (We're only talking about 10 or 15, on a bench, not a low squat. I'm so glad I started working out last year! (even tho I hate to show up there every time!)

I took a nap when I got home. Sorry, not sorry. It felt good.

Yep, Lucy, we had one. Always available as an extra seat or steps.

Yep again, LadyM. You need to take care of you and yours right now. Circle the wagons! At the very minimum, ds's friend is resourceful and loyal. LOL on him wanting to just take his zip ties along.

Nancy, Millie caught a glimpse of something disappearing into the street drain as we went out the front door for her walk. Talk about wound up! The Physical therapist agreed that I should probably keep leash in right hand for now, or hook it on the left arm up at the elbow. She has a strong prey drive, your gal may also.

Cathy, we're grilled pork chops and corn on the cob on the grill. I should add fruit/dessert for a slow carb too. Dh uses a no sugar whipped cream on his, and after a meal with protein it's not hard on his blood sugar.

I remembered to bring up meat for tomorrow and after so it is way handier now.
It is 4:00 and a couple of booms have went off and ddoggo has retreated to her safe room.

The rhubarb has been picked up!! DH is up and dressed for work, DS has just left for work. I'm not sure what I'll do with my evening. There are some crafting projects that need to be finished off - cat toys to be sewn closed, cat pads (to go in the kennels at work) that need to be sewn, and then there's always the crocheting... again, kitty stuff - small blankets that go in the carry crates. I donate them to a local cat rescue.

Good evening! Not much to say, just enjoying reading what all of you are up to.

My "W" chore for today: Writing a gwocewy wist. (Don't know why my brain threw in all the extra w's -- I guess the silent one in "writing" didn't seem to count.) I didn't finish the list yesterday or today. I did run to the store with DH to get fruit for tomorrow's fruit salad and some chicken salad for tonight's dinner.

Saturday's visit with family went well, Harriet, with none of the implied criticism I feared.
