Just putting this down for documentation and memory purpose. During our adventures last night, DGS18 was stopped by our little town police for doing 34mph in 25 mph. I expect that wouldn't have caused the police to stop a local resident, but it was an unknown vehicle speeding in our little town in the middle of the night. ANYWAY, when DGS18 handed over his drivers license to the police, it was discovered that DGS18 license had expired 2 months ago. Thankfully DGS16 was in the vehicle and explained DGS18 was our guest. The police just gave DGS18 a verbal warning for speeding and driving with an expired license. DGS16 and DGS18 traded places so that they had a driver with a current license and then went on their way.

DGS16 has been a licensed driver for 76 days and this is the 3rd experience of being stopped for breaking the law. So far all the stops have only resulted in warnings.

DGS16 has learned that when phone is in battery saver mode then Life360 won't track and record speed. I have banned him from using battery saver mode.

DGS50 and I were having a conversation recently about the challenges of raising teen boys. I told DGS50 sometimes it feels like my primary goal is just to keep the teens alive and out of prison while waiting for their prefrontal cortex to fully develop.

No — blessed— dh passed away 6 months ago (April 12).
Yesterday would have been our 45th anniversary.
And today is ds’s 41st birthday.

It’s just been a tough week.

I have been moving wood 1" branches.
Broke some down to fit in the fire pit.
One now resembles a walking stick aka dog club if another one comes after us!
That happened last week.
But I do not think that fat old pug had any teeth!
Walked or rather strolled around the block and left a spare branch on the fence by the field for days I forget one!

Had lunch.
I took my personal growth note book outside Sat in the sun and wrote about the zipper jar!
Drew a small sketch of one.
Just saw a big bird circling in the sky out the Window.
Moon has been bright.

the crab was bad!!! I opened it - I had prepped everything else but when I put the crab in the dish it smelled like stinky feet - yuck!
dd older wanted me to order new crab from grocery store -she really frustrated me but moving forward. . I do not want to be cooking late in the evening. it's up to her what she will do for dinner. I think they forget how long cooking can take; as well as the clean up.

not happy with the crab but in the scheme of life it's nothing!!! even the cat didn't eat it.
time to put away the remainder of the groceries.

I think I will make the greek salad tomorrow. it's sounds so fresh.

Hi, guys.

Not much going on here today. A visit from a friend of HRH's ended up with them doing some odd jobs around the outside of the house.

lucylee, this afternoon we got the chimney covered super neatly with a heavy-duty brown color tarp, just 8 x 10 or 12 - something like that. And metal tape that looks like HVAC folks use. HRH and a friend who is a carpenter/handyman cut the tarp to hang down exactly the same all around, then taped it horizontally. Not too noticeable and when you do notice it, it looks like somebody meant to do that. The idea is to go through at least a month of autumn rainstorms and see if this stops problems or not. If it does, we'll install a much larger metal cover than we have now. If it doesn't change anything, we'll know that the flashing at the base of the chimney is probably failing (again). Worst case scenario is that the chimney is physically acting like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and we need a more drastic measure, such as taking away all the brick of the chimney down into the attic and roofing over it with a plain roof.

Harriet, I sure hope this solves your roof problems! I am still sitting with a hole that gives a view into the attic, and another pinhole size hole that definitely leaks. Of course, surrounding these spots is the torn popcorn ceiling.  However, there are two pans of some type in the attic, such as people use to catch condensation/drips from attic AC units, and apparently they are doing their job. OTOH, we haven't had a lot of rain since ds took these up there, so I need to send him up to check on them tomorrow night.
Carpenter has been busy at ds' house, building the add-on to his music room. (Dinlaws had a sort of game room -- pool table, ping pong table, etc, built in their backyard. We moved the pool table to our garage building, and ds moved all his records, instruments, etc. into this room. However, he is beginning to outgrow the single room, and wanted more space.)
Anyway -- carpenter has finished this project and perhaps I can get him back to my house before he starts something new for ds. There is an unending list of things that need to be done in ds' house, where the basement and original house is 70-years-old. Dinlaws renovated by basically building a house around a house when dh was around 10 years old, so the "new" part of this house is probably 60 years old. Sigh.

I am still on the verge of another crying jag, and I replied to J&C -- thank you so much for being here tonight!
One thing that set me off, I guess, was a really, really sweet card that one of my dearest friends sent me for our anniversary. I got it yesterday (Saturday) and dgd was with me when I opened it. She tried to read it, but hasn't mastered cursive yet, so I read it to her, and teared up at that point, and I've been battling tears ever since.

However, I have made myself useful tonight in some ways --
* set up planner for the week
* checked ds's travel schedule & updated my calendar
* finished putting items in page protectors for dh's memory book
(This may sound morbid to y'all, but I have print-outs from all the FB messages and texts, dried flowers, ribbons from flowers, pages where retirement association noted his death, as well as college magazine, etc. I have everything in page protectors in a notebook, except the sympathy cards, which still line my mantel, and which will probably stay up until I receive Christmas cards. It is very comforting to me to know this many people cared about dh and cared enough about me to let me know.)
* updated credit card info for something that came due on old card today
* folded a load of towels that has been in the dryer for several days
* washed the small round tablecloth in "guest" bath,
which had dgrands' toothpaste/etc on it, and the shirt I wore to church, which had some sort of stain on it.
* cleaned mirror and s/s toilet in there
* did all the Sunday chores
-- garbage to road
-- allergy shots
-- washed dishes
(However, there are a few things in the sink again. DGS had to eat two lunches -- taco bell at 11:30 and frozen pizza at 2:30. He has become a bottomless pit.)
-- swept kitchen
-- refilled meds for dispenser
(So happy to say cough has disappeared after last week's steroid shot and a week on new antibiotic. Now I will be praying it stays gone since I have finished antibiotic and have returned to taking antihistamine.)

Anyway... I'm trying. I may have some Zofran and Aleve to help me sleep. I've cried so much tonight that I have a headache, and as noted in J&C, for better or worse, Zofran calms my nervous stomach and makes me a little drowsy.

LadyM -- thanks for giving me a laugh --
it feels like my primary goal is just to keep the teens alive and out of prison while waiting for their prefrontal cortex to fully develop.
Ooohhh, blessed... crab gone bad... ugh. (((HUGS))) Thank you so much for your love and prayers.
DGS and I watched some football today also, but I was not really concerned with who won. DGS was pulling for the 49ers against the Chiefs, but they lost too. Just like our college team yesterday. Of course, the Other Team in our state lost too, so that took away some of the sting, LOL.
* ROSE -- were you nice to your ds or did you gloat over your victory? ;)

Nancy, you are doing so well. I am always so impressed with all you get done! I would need a dog club if I went walking outside my yard! We live on a county road, just one house outside the city limits, and there are supposed to be leash laws, even out in the county, but I never feel brave enough to test it. DH used to walk a LONG circuit here, 8 miles round-trip at one time, before his knees gave out, and he did have to deal with some crazy dogs a few times.

I know I'm leaving out a bunch of y'all. Please forgive me. If you read J&C, you'll probably understand where my head has been these last few days.
Maybe after tomorrow, I can re-set.

Tomorrow's plan --
* Bank, for large bills for ds' bday card
* Sign card
* Drug store, for flu shot and refills
* Oil change
* Call courthouse (tax office) to make sure I still have homeowner's exemption -- we had some sort of discount after dh turned 70, now I'm not sure
And if time allows --
* Laundry
* Vacuum and dust main area of the house
* Wash the items in the sink
