thrilled that mom's place answered or I would have had to go back and bring her lunch - she wants to be home cleaning and she was cleaning!
I had just gotten home, after giving mom her meds and voting; I didn't want to go out again. mom said she ate!
For now - knock on wood - we are ok. dh ate.

voting had a line - maybe a half hour.
I had a problem bc I had received a vote by mail card but I hadn't ordered it. I thought I could just vote today - they said I need to check if somehow I am on constant vote mailer. I had to sign that I hadn't voted before.
My dh got two mailers. of course he only voted once but they said some people vote more? I don't know.

This morning dd26 texted that she had voted at the church near them that is her new polling place. From the time of the text, and the fact that she told this in the past tense, I'd say she may have just decided to be first in line in order to miss as little work as possible.

blessed, very rare, but all are checked against previous activity, so it doesn't matter anyway. When you say "card" though, I guess you are not meaning the thick, large ballot envelope with interior envelope, etc. HRH's was so thick, I tucked it inside the front cover of a book to come from the mailbox and it held the cover open, lol.

We stopped at the small sorta-healthy grocery on the way home from appt. and I got a few items at their deli to try. We also went through the drive-through for pharmacy, so that errand is done.

((blessed and dh)) Oh, I hope this resolves on its own - hoping he simply recovers from the cold, no big deal.

LadyM, the reason I never liked basketball games was bleachers - I don't like bleachers. And now, eyesight makes me like them less. Other than that, seems like good fun.

I have been to the local market early.
Raked up some leaves got the can full yea!
We have just returned from a walk it's nice but breezy just needed a long sleeved flannel shirt today.
Making dog treats now.

Went to grocery store, have put away perishables. Have a nagging headache, going to take advil and a decongestant - don't know if it's grinding the teeth or sinuses - but perhaps one of those will help. And a short nap.

Flattered that a friend emailed me that the Oregon Genealogy Study group chose my article for their reading and discussion this month. I'd offer to show up on Zoom for their discussion but it's at 9 p.m. the day I have a colonoscopy next week. I may be wiped out, but either way 9 p.m. is late for me...

The basketball game last night turned out to be a wonderful experience. I was concerned about overstimulating DH because of the loud and constant noise but he loved every moment of it. I am going to limit our basketball game attendance to only home games. This is the same gym that DH played 40 years ago when he was in high school, and we spent a decade attending games when our kids played so DH is familiar with every inch of this gym. I suspect familiarity of location lowers mental stimulation. DH loves talking to people and had over a dozen people come to where we were sitting to shake his hand and chat with him. I vote NO to bleachers! There are plenty of chairs with arm seating available so that is where we choose to sit. We were on the front row so easy to access. BTW - there is no cost for senior citizens to attend games here.

The shop camera quit working. I suspect someone (DS16 is top of my suspect list) turned the electricity off to it when troubleshooting & adjusting the overhead shop door recently. DH found 2 breakers flipped and turned them back on. Now the camera is working again. Teenagers in the shop are a never-ending surprise at what they will do next.

it has been a nice afternoon - rainy all day - I have been working in the garage - I am trying to get it ready for winter.
I love days when mom is all together - Taking it one day/one moment at a time. She is home but she is doing great at her apt.
dh is very cooperative today - he also can breath again. (not such a clogged hole).

hi d lady - how wonderful that the basketball was so fun. so happy your dh loved every minute - my dh has the same thing re: noise and too many people - so happy for him. how neat that he had lots of chats and lots of hand shakes - wonderful

hello everyone - its raining but not pouring - a good all day water

A down day for me, which is a shame since I finally got my hair cut, at least 3 months later than it should have been cut (a victim to the cottage time eating into my regular routines.)

Toured the second retirement home. It is a 22 year old complex and was OK in some ways and really not OK in others. It doesn't help that I saw the 'cruise ship' style place first. It was better than where my mom was but you'd expect that, one is a city run nursing home, this is a private retirement home.

The rooms were quite nice but no a/c in the independent living units. That's a deal breaker in this day and age. Plus the basement smelled of sump water. Everywhere.

The assisted living and memory care building didn't smell in the basement but did a bit above ground. They had a/c but heat and a/c were motel style units under the window.

And the price savings weren't there when you add in meals, etc, and until the two buildings are finished next door (late next year) there is no pool.

Aside from having a memory care unit (locked), the other big advantages were the clinic with doctors 2 days a week (so no need to go out to see a doctor) and it is so old, the rent portion of the units were under rent control.

I did learn that the memory care unit is for those who wander and since my sister likely can't wander (her knees are too bad), she won't need that level of care which puts the place I saw yesterday back in the running.

There are three more I need to research in this area. The pool is the selling point for her so first thing to look up is if they have pools.

Kathryn - I am greatly interested in your observation of pro/cons for long term care places.

Does anyone have a good place to watch the election returns online? I have zero interest in listening to chatter and would like to watch the numbers as they are reported. Is accuracy too much to hope for? So far, the best website I have found for just the numbers is this one. It tells what time each state polls closes.

In Tennessee we mark a paper ballot, which, in our presence, is fed into a small machine and we see the counter go up by one ballot. I think the ballots are within the machine, and the entire machine with ballots goes to election commission for counting.

Dh came through and went on to bowling. He had TV on for awhile but there's nothing to see now, all speculation. I preordered a pizza for myself for tonight. I rarely eat them since we don't order them at home. TV going and going to watch...
