Nancy - are you affected by the 7.3 Earthquake Tsunami Warning?

That was an excellent nap! I really needed it. And magically, groceries arrived while I was sleeping. Temp outside is in forties so no worries about spoilage.

Refrigerated stuff put away. I'm giving myself 15 min online then starting 45 min pick up put away. The house was in great shape when we arrived 15 hours ago but....stuff. Laundry from washer needs to be hung to dry, new load started, dishwasher emptied now that it's run. I hardly know where to start.

How much snow, Mystery? There were snow flurries here this week, but we missed them!

Holiday denim Christmas shirt sounds fun, Nancy! I wore something sparkly yesterday and felt festive too.

LOL on the trucks, LadyM. How does he propose to get one running? Are all five in the driveway his or does dh drive one? (Here, I know the neighbors hated it when we had four vehicles and not much room to park them. That was when ds and dd lived here after college.)

I'll need to walk the dog after this round of inside work.

Coming back through. That 45 min made a world of difference. I haven't completely unpacked but started another load of laundry. The first I hung to dry. I have a bunch of sweaters so will have to do them one or two at a time. No room to dry them all flat.

I'll walk ddog at 4:30. After walking her, I need to start chili for our supper and work on bedroom/unpacking/bathroom. Dishwasher not unloaded yet, it was still running and is drying.

Saw that the tidal wave warnings were cancelled there.

Did a PUPA & RBR
BS took a dive after our walk took care of that.
Got foods divided up and froze half of the ones needed to be frozen.
Had a v-8 counts for veg.

Trying to give myself a limit on how much I "talk" (post!)

Thankful for... oh... sooo many things -- first I want y'all to know I am VERY thankful for
-- you ladies and the many years now that we've been friends. Y'all have been here for me through some terrible times, and some really wonderful things, and you have given me advice that has helped in practical ways AND emotional ways. I truly would be lost without ALL of you!!!
Other things I must mention...
-- salvation, and I faith that remains, even through some of my hardest times and most worrisome doubts
-- my family -- my mom, DS/ddil, dgrands
-- my extended family (most of the time)
-- family members that have passed away and the wonderful memories I have of them and how much they meant to me
-- dh... gosh, that should have been first, right? I guess right now, I struggle because tears come so quickly when I allow myself to think of him, but we were sooo blessed for more years than a lot of people get and I am thankful for almost 45 years with a Christian man who was a good husband and father, who loved his family and mine (our birth families, I mean)
-- my church friends
-- my other friends who have stuck by me since childhood -- 3 of the 4 people I am closest to have been my friends since kindergarten or first grade
-- my home, despite it's NUMEROUS faults
-- enough food to eat and finances have not fallen apart like I feared they would after dh's death

TIME'S UP!

I have wasted today -- but maybe not really. After yesterday's fiasco, I felt I really needed to rest and re-group. I am heading to s2s immediately upon hitting submit. I have on blue jeans and fuzzy socks, and the shirt I slept in the last two nights.
BUT...
I do have a few ta-da's:
These were my top three priorities --
* called bank auto-teller, updated auto-deposits in my checkbook (I'll never give up real paper and ink.)
* wrote check I will need to pay in person (I could mail, but I drive right by this place every single day, just have to catch the owner in.)
* folded the load of laundry that was in the dryer (towels, etc)
Also --
* talked to dmom and ddil
* texted with dfriend who had some questions about FB posts, she didn't know we grew up in the same little community in our county
* did Bible study and devotional reading
* exercised

Now -- s2s -- dgd's ballgame is at 6:00 pm. I think Let me check...

Oh, I hope no one limits how much we can post. I love reading the post here and don't want that to change.
There are times that I am quite chatty as I work through a situation and need to have a sounding board.

I made a hamburger & potato dish for supper. I added green beans as a side dish, and banana pudding for dessert. No one left the table hungry.

Dh walked in, exhausted, right before I headed out to walk the dog. He got up at his usual time and worked out at 6 a.m. this morning. I couldn't do it. He's napping in his chair now. The chili is close to done. I'm not sure whether I should wake him to eat.

I've puttered and the suitcase and backpack are empty but last things from those have not been put away.

A bit of a travelogue (feel free to skip, it's long!)

On Saturday we had breakfast with dd, then went to a Winter Market at Bryant Park (ice skating and curling there, food vendors), then she took us on the subway way up Manhattan to the Cloisters, a branch of the Metropolitan Art Museum that is dedicated to medieval art. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cloisters Everything was so interesting: the building, the art, the setting on the Hudson River. We walked through Fort Tryon Park. https://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/fort-tryon-park It was a beautiful day, cool and breezy, and we enjoyed being with dd so much. She had dinner with us before heading back home.

Sunday dh and I saw Hadestown,a musical, which was wonderful. I had thought it was dark and depressing, but dd had explained the plot before we got the tickets. We had great seats and could almost hear some of the voices. Hades himself had a very deep voice and a wide range, and dead, cold eyes. On Monday we went to the Museum of Modern Art. Spent a while there - I particularly wanted to see the Matisse cut outs.
https://www.moma.org/calendar/exhibitions/1429 A friend from home called - he and his wife were in NYC also and were blocks away. So we met them for afternoon drinks and lunch. For the evening we took the subway to the Lincoln Center area and had dinner with dd and dh's cousins, R and S.

Tuesday we had some down time. Shopped a little, walked through Rockefeller center. We had an early dinner with dd and saw "Suffs," a true story museum about the Suffragette movement and gaining the right to vote for women. It highlighted that Black women also participated in the movement, but were unable to vote (for the most part) until the Civil Rights movement. The show was so moving - I wanted to weep because so many of the same issues are relevant now, over a hundred years later. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suffs

Wednesday was last day - we took subway to the Chelsea Market area for more shopping. So many interesting shops and and foods there! Although I'm not much of a shopper, so many of the artisans in the markets have interesting and beautiful things to admire. We had lunch at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery, There was an area to order pastries or sandwiches and coffee, just like at home, but so many pastries and choices. The latte I had was the best I have every had - super creamy because they use a different steaming machine for the milk. There's also a "coffee experience" bar to order, and taste different coffees and drinks, then a bar with coffee based drinks with alcohol. Update in J&C. No real bad news, but there is a joyous update re: DMIL!!

When we got home, I got the tree up. Tonight we have the outside lights on, and 2 ceramic trees are on, plus the 7 foot tall fake tree has it's lights on. All 3 trees are multi coloured lights. There is also a battery operated thing that is like a snow globe, but it's tall and rectangular with "golden" glitter and a light inside. It's odd, but dh bought it for me, and it looks nice in a dark room.

We had liver and onions for supper.

So happy you got some good news, Cathy. I haven’t checked J&C yet.

LadyM and Twins — I was just trying to limit myself, time wise— because I am sooo slow to type and when I tell myself I’ll just post really quick and get back to work— well, the next thing I know, an hour has passed!

Tonight I was rushing to get to dgd’s ballgame.
They lost, 7-5 — but Dgd got 3 rebounds. That was unheard of last year!
But ooohhhh — it’s so cold and windy tonight… already 28 degrees/feels like 19, and the low tonight is 16!!!
Boy… seems like this happened FAST!

I was not invited to eat with ds/family after the game and that was fine with me. I am heating up some of that wonderful stew we get at Labor Day. Sooo looking forward to having that on a cold night like this.

I am also searching the Internet for electric fireplace logs. Any suggestions or advice?
