People walking in the street just amaze me,
LadyM! They act like they just don't think it is possible that someone could hit them. Glad you got home safely!
Harriet, dmom's appt was -- ??? -- well... he thinks he can help her, but there is really no solution short of surgery. He told her to think about it and come back in two weeks, and in the meantime, she is to have some sort of vascular (?) test, to make sure she has enough blood flow to the feet to be a candidate for surgery. It's not a great solution, but she says otherwise, she will most likely be confined to a wheelchair. The pain has just become too much, and she really does have a pretty high pain tolerance. (She had an ovarian cyst rupture once, and waited all night to go to the emergency room. The surgeon told my dad he didn't know how she stood it.) Surgery will probably be much like what
Rose, I think, described -- re-breaking and setting the toes -- first three toes are the ones that are particularly involved. He will try to avoid amputation, but that is not totally off the table; he said he would put that in her consent form, but he thought (and hopes) that will not be necessary. In his words, "If I can get this second toe to lay down, that should not be necessary."
He did something today, and numbed her toes a bit for whatever he did -- it looked to me like he was just giving her another shot. When she got home, and it was still numb, she said she wished she could just get a shot everyday,
I dread this, selfishly, because he said she would basically have a 6-week recovery time, and she would be able to "get around," somewhat, but no driving and no weight on the
front part of her foot. With her walker and wheelchair in her house, she would probably be able to do self-care and keep herself fed for the most part, but (she said) I would need to come out every few days, and of course, I can do that. I'd be buying groceries for her -- and that's a chore because she doesn't always think ahead to what she needs a week ahead. HEY -- this will definitely be a time to get that Wmart delivery set up! But it's less than 10 miles between our houses, and DS and DDIL would be able to help me out sometimes if I needed them.
So, it's just a matter of prayer, and we'll see what she decides to do. I told her she should talk to dsisil, whom she thinks is so smart. (I've kinda heard enough about how smart dsisil is, but at any rate, she IS an intelligent, experienced RN and dmom should get some input from her and dbro. Maybe they will feel sorry for me and come spend a few days with her in the midst of all this.)
I love my dmom and we get along extremely well, but she does exhaust me mentally, and I would not want to live with her.
I wish I had
blessed's patience and positive outlook.
Anyway, I hope things go okay for HRH with all his appointments, and that you have more energy -- but honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about low step count, etc. As usual, you're probably getting more accomplished than I am anyway. But -- Right now it is time for you to just listen to your body and rest when you need to rest, eat what sounds good to you whenever it sounds good, just do whatever you can to keep yourself as comfortable as possible. (((BIG HUGS)))
As y'all might imagine, after last night's high level energy here, and the late hours I keep, I had to have another nap this evening. Dmom's appt was at 1:30, and we got back to her house before 3:00, but after I left her, I went to Wmart for myself... and I find myself buying weird stuff that I used to not buy, and I don't know when I'll cook it (spaghetti, rice-a-roni) but it seems like a good idea with all this free hamburger meat in the freezer... and I bought myself two more pairs of Cuddl-duds... and two extra phone charger cords (because one has bit the dust and another is on it's way out)...
and then I dropped off a big bag of shirts and jackets at the charity place...
and went to the post office...
and the gas dept to drop off that bill...
and then finally got home a little after 5:00.
I put away the groceries, started a load of laundry, ate the last of the chicken and dressing (in the freezer from Thanksgiving, and it was still good.
Also had about half a large bag of pretzel crisps that was a impulse buy... and some mini cinnamon rolls which was another impulse buy...
And then I took a nap.
When I got up, I put the towels in the dryer and ran the "clean washer" cycle it was asking for, so that's all the laundry that got done today.
Tomorrow, thank goodness, I don't have to be anywhere until 6:00 pm church, and I don't have anything to teach. We are waiting to see what the pastor wants us to do for our next study.
I have never been in a sauna OR a hot tub... and I've never had a massage... and I've never had a manicure or pedicure. I feel very dull.
I've just got to wave to everyone and get this posted before I lose my internet again. It says I have "medium" signal, but it is very "iffy" tonight.
OH -- editing -- I just printed out the feelings wheel, and I was looking at the tracking sheet, LadyM...
So I'm thinking -- right now, I guess I am Happy/Optimistic/and Hopeful... Intensity, maybe a 6 out of 10? Is that what it means by bottom, mid, and top level feelings?
Of course, I am also kinda Bad/Tired & Stressed/Overwhelmed, Sleepy, & Unfocused... maybe also a 6 out of 10.
Maybe even a little Fearful/Anxious/Worried & Overwhelmed... fortunately, I'd give that a 4 right now.
This may not work for me.
