Hello everyone, I used to be on the "in touch" forums. Greetings kittykat
. My house became a wreck, and I decidedI needed to stop posting while I was so far from the routines etc. Dh and I go out most days but this morning I had a wobbler and said I wanted to put a wash on and clean the loo and bathroom and change our bedlinen. It felt great to have it done, dh was not as pleased but he had to be so. I went to the forums to reconnect and I found it was closing andf moving here. So I came here:)
I am 73, am a Christian and have 2 adult children. Daughter and her partner and 13 year old autistic son live with us. Son and his wife live in Italy and have a son and daughter.
I am on AncestryDNA too. I am about 25% Scottish sand about the same for Ulster (Northern Ireland). Scots were moved to Ulster to populate it which impacts on the DNA results. My gt grandfather was in the Orange Lodge which means my family fought at the Battle of the Boyne on the side of King William of England (his eldest son didn't join the Order so the link is lost. I have found that Ancestry has a problem with two brothers who marry ladies with the same first name and age, Ancestry merge their familes together.

Good afternoon, everybody!
I'm wearing teal -- does that count? I am zero percent Irish, 100% Polish, though when I was a kid everybody in school was convinced I had to be part Irish because of the red in my hair. DH, however is Irish (half by way of Canada), and he proposed to me 34 years ago today. Cleveland has a big St. Patrick's Day parade, and unlike a lot of other cities, ours is always on St. Patrick's Day itself, not on the nearest weekend. (I bet this year, they're wishing they had it on the weekend!) We'd won matching shamrock sweatshirts at my church's party the night before, and we wore them to the parade, and he proposed to me.
The schools DH and DD work at, being Catholic, are both closed today, so everybody's home. (DD has play rehearsal this evening but classes only T/Th.) This will be interesting when I have a work meeting online this afternoon. I've put in an hour and a half on payroll getting ready for the meeting. I'm going to be working on two projects at once, so I wanted to make sure everything was straight. And it turned out I'd been sent a link to some mandatory safety training. I don't know that I'll ever have to use it; most of it was particular to their manufacturing plant, and since I'm a temp working from home, I don't really have occasion to go there.
I need to rouse DC again -- since DD is feeling better, I want to spend some time before my meeting doing the work on the play/sun room that I wanted to do this weekend. So my plan is to rouse DC, have some lunch while DC has -- brunch, I guess? -- then clean up lunch and exercise before we get to work. That should give us enough time to get something done together before my 3:00 meeting.
How much do you mean replacing your HVAC system, Harriet? We've wanted to get whole-house AC, but we have steam heat, so they would have to install duct work throughout the house. The cost of that has been prohibitive, though with summers getting hotter and the loss of the shade tree in front of our house, it's looking more and more worthwhile.

We went on a little adventure to the local lake. We soaked up the bright sunshine with the waves lapping at our feet. We walked from Goodin Arm to Fulton Arm before deciding that we were ready to return to civilization.
Several phone calls made. Septic tank maintenance is schedule for tomorrow. Yearly whole house water softener, reverse osmosis maintenance is scheduled for next week. This year is the 4th year for the carbon filter so it has reached its end of life. That will be replaced adding another $425 to the yearly maintenance cost. Also made phone calls to follow-up on DH EEG test results. They are in transit.
We have the next 3 days of wind. Not the horrible wind we had last week but 30mph type sustained winds. Everything done outside must have an extra effort applied to keep the wind from doing damage. Before you open a door, you need to know if the wind is going to catch it and rip it out of hands.

I was able to get every thing done with the exception of visiting the tax man. Still waiting for more forms to show up in the mail. Ugh I hate that!

Whole-house electric here, Mystery, replacing a system that is somewhere between 15 and 20 years old and not including relatively young ductwork. How much? This may not be the answer you are looking for, but 18 grand. No reason for me to faint. Things just cost this much. It would have been 14 without additions of 2 air-quality decisions (one of our main reasons for a change at this time) and a quieter-running choice. Next, tomorrow, we learn how much an encapsulation of the under part of the house will cost and whether we can possibly do that.
Another big shock is that we got a better price for taking an opened date in the company's calendar, this very Friday. Only one day out of their calendar, but it will extend into Saturday a.m. It does make sense, for us, to do this earlier rather than later. But Friday is also a big appt morning for me, far away. HRH had assumed he could be with me, but he also needs to be here as a decision-maker while they work. For me the morning begins at a new dept for Information/introduction and labs. Then to my main doctor for a consent visit. Looks like it will be dd26 with me instead, taking time off work. She is a great comfort, but not experienced with these things like her Dad - we'll do fine, though.

After supper I looked around the kitchen and the only thing to wash, as far as dishes go, was the large pot that I made the stew in. We were both very satisfied when we got up from the table and there was almost nothing left in the pot other than a few carrot slices.

Both LadyM and Mystery had sort of romantic days today.
Have planned the morning with dstepdil tomorrow. I'll enjoy a trip out with her.
Took a shower tonight because I don't know for sure what time the workman might get here in the morning, and I want that well out of the way before any extra knock at the door. yipes. He'll be under the house mostly but will surely expect to come in first. He is a friend of dstepson.
LadyM, I hope you have no wind damage for house or garden. Henry is faithful.
Hi, blessed. Wishing you less and less medical appts, etc. You are doing SO well and handling things in such an emotionally healthy way.
lucylee's dmother is making medical decisions, too.
Hope all the tax papers show up promptly, Ramblin'.

CI ~ Finished the pager cutting and punched em for my planners yea!
Got 4 more bags seamed up.
dd came by this afternoon and we had a great visit, looked at my crocus and chatted about gardening plans.
then I walked ddoggo later b/c of the winds at our regular time slot plus it was cooler.
Had a low did up dishes & dumped the trash.
s2slippers happened clean & dry hair now. Yea!
Poof I have class. Done.
Did dishes & dumped trash.
Did another round of sewing.
