(((Twins))) Sounds like you have really had a busy afternoon. Don't beat yourself up about the mistake. I bet you would never have had that problem if you were working in a quiet office for paying clients. Harriet is right -- dh is NOT a client!
(((Harriet))) I loved the quote also. Thanks for sharing, Twins.
WTG, LadyM! I'm so glad LordM is had a good day doing normal things that he enjoyed!
Good to hear that your mom had a good day, blessed!
I have read Faulkner's
The Sound and the Fury. My dmom said it was the only book she ever started and just couldn't finish, so, LOL, I wanted to make sure I
could read it. I wrote an essay on it in college. Teacher said it (my essay) was "schmaltzy." (I had to look that up -- "excessively sentimental." Sigh. I liked the story, but it was very sad, IMHO. I really haven't read any of his other works, but I suspect yes, they may be a little dark and depressing.
I read once that Faulkner visited Japan after WWII and was quoted as saying that his country had lost a war with the United States also. (He's from Mississippi, you know.) I have always wanted to tour his home, which is on the campus of the University of Mississippi, and of course, we were there every other year during football season... but we never stayed overnight, so never had time to do that.
Anyway, I have thought about joining a book club here in town. A friend at church invited me once, when I was first retired. I don't know... it's hard to keep up with reading, especially with dmom and current situation. I love to read, but I don't read very fast, unless it's one of those books I can't put down and I end up reading all night long.
Plus -- just noticed that this friend and another acquaintance of mine were part of the travel group my dfriend and her husband were with this past week. They went on a bus trip to Washington, DC. Dfriend said these two ladies, both widows, are "travel buddies." Dfriend has already told me that when things settle down with dmom that I really should travel with these groups. I told her, "Travel makes me nervous." I didn't go into the social anxiety and travel anxiety, but I don't need a 2nd friend pressuring me to join these groups.
I imagine I would love the trips, actually... I'm just too panicky to schedule one and prepare for it.
I haven't done a lot today -- ate lunch with Dfriend, and another Dfriend/cousin called while we were eating to invite me to lunch! I read somewhere that one terrible thing about grief is that no one else notices the anniversary. I don't think that's true. I know the first Dfriend realized it's coming up.
I told Dcousin we'd get together another day.
After that, I tried to get the oil changed in dmom's car, but the place was closed. (It's a one-man shop, and he sometimes seems to work when it suits him, LOL.)
Then bought groceries, tried to get a key made but Wmart no longer does that. We have a locksmith in town, but he also seems to work when it suits him.
Home, watched a little TV, maybe a short nap, church.
RE: my weekend
-- good news: DS and ddil aren't leaving until noon.
-- bad news: DGD has to be at the ballpark at 7:30 a.m.!!!

They play at 8:00 and 12:00, and possibly another game if they win. (It's a benefit tournament for a child who lost an arm in a terrible lawnmower accident with her mother! I believe the mother is a former student of mine.)
* I told DS he and ddil could go to the first game, actually, since they aren't leaving until noon. I will go to the game, but I'd prefer not to have to wake up dgd and have her ready and all that. And DS would kinda like to go to the game, but ddil acted like it was going to be too much, with a long trip (about 6 hours or so) ahead of them. I might tell DS if they don't want to go to the game, they can just get DGD ready and I will pick her up at their house. Sometimes she is hard to wake up, and I don't really want to do that. I'll have to get them both ready for church Sunday and school Monday.
RE: dmom
Well, by the time I got there yesterday, she told me I would be happy to know she had consented to stay through the weekend. (She found out her favorite nurse would be there this weekend.) I told her dbro, DS, ddil, and I all felt she should listen to the professionals re: how long she stays, and we have a meeting tomorrow with them, a "care plan" meeting. I also asked her to stay at least till next Tuesday, because that would be 14 days and she would complete at least 2/3 of her allowed time. She agreed to that also.
Tuesday will be difficult for me, but really, all week will be hectic. We have noon services at church all week, and on Wednesday and Thursday, my Sunday School class is responsible for lunch afterwards. (Sandwiches, hot dogs, just a very light lunch, but I need to help prepare and clean up.) On Tuesday, I will be able to leave church earlier, but the dgrands both have ballgames, and of course I want to go to those... but I may just have to miss those. I could miss church Tuesday, but the preacher that day is the one at the church where our family will move to if this disaffiliation thing is finally denied. Sigh. One can't be everywhere and do everything.
Having dmom home makes me nervous also, but keeping her in rehab where she is unhappy also makes me nervous... and moving in with her OR having her move in with me both make me nervous as well. This season of life is just not an easy time. LIFE makes me nervous right now.
Tomorrow's PODA:
* Care Plan meeting at 10:20, so I will need to leave here by 9:30 (that will get me there about 20 minutes early, but I like to build in a little extra time.)
* Come home through Next Town, swap shoes at Belk, pick up lunch/supper at Chicken Salad Chick, maybe stop at Home Depot or somewhere to get key made
* Be home by 4:00 pm, take dgd to gymnastics
* Go to dgs's ballgame -- provided we don't get the severe thunderstorms that are predicted
Hope y'all have a good Thursday!
