Home from work. I was reading some of Timothy Snyder's social media on the way home and it got me thinking - is Participation in Government or similar type of class still taught in US high schools? It was mandatory when I was a student in the USA, for the seniors I think? It seems a lot of people who post online comments do not understand what due process actually means, so I wonder whether that's somehow no longer taught at schools?
It's really unfortunate that there isn't more pressure to properly teach "enhanced literacy" (legal, financial and civic), it would do students far more good to be able to properly grasp concepts like insurance, credit ratings, voting systems, or employee rights than, say, name battles in WWI!
Anyway, off my soapbox and onto getting the soap out of the box!

Only one dd (and her fiance) are coming, the other dd is staying at school to deal with work and finals. We will meet her halfway at a date to be determined.
Curriculum is state based Trissie. In Maryland there are 3 years of social studies…. World history, American history, Government (federal, state and local). That said there has clearly not been a lot of assimilation of the curriculum. I think there definitely needs to be more emphasis on financial literacy. The only one of my daughter’s who had a specific curriculum for that was DD32 and a lot of it was out of date when she did it.
