Laura, welcome home! So glad you had a good time away, but IKWYM about being happy to be home. In my experience pots prefer to be watered with a watering can rather than the sprinkler, as that way you can make sure you get under the leaves and right I to the co post. And it gives you a better idea of how much water each pot has had.

Helia, that's a very busy and very social day!

Trissie, so glad you've had a wonderful time away with DH, and yourself managing to make real progress round the house with all the DKids are away. That town looks fascinating!

I'm sitting in my front garden, waiting for DH to arrive home. He *should* be arriving any time now, but one never knows with trains!

We had one of my favourite visiting priests for church this morning, and the service finished nearly, so I was able to have a good chat with friends before visiting DF E. She is feeling better than she was, but is frustrated that everything takes her so long. But we had a good chat over our coffee.

Back home, I put a quiche in the oven for my lunch (nor roast today.as DH is away, so I get a week off cooking! ) folded laundry and PA and gave downstairs a good dust and hoover. (There wasn't time before church as Freddie insisted on a walk (he is normally walked after I get back from church and knows it). I've also unloaded the DW, put up my supplements and The Girls' dried food for the week, and tidied the kitchen. And now I'm just sitting very peacefully and enjoying the quiet.

Kittykat that is probably true. I should have made more effort to ask her to water where they were. Or maybe she do the pets and ask my sister to water pots? I thought they would be ok. I think some of them will come back maybe not quite everything. The pansies really disagree and the little trailing flowers. Petunias will recover.

Off to church in a few.

kittykatt, don't you usually have Sunday roast leftovers for lunch the followin week? what's the backup plan?
lauralind, how long is the growing season on the fall side for you?
helia, is the Anglican church that far away or are their sermons super long?
Frenchie, how lovely that the kids will have a very eventful vacation seeing all of the countries! However, if they are like mine at that age, they will most be interested in the playgrounds and other kinda "generic" venues!

Laura, sorry for your garden. You remind me we need to make arrangements with DneighbourM to water the garden, or maybe two neighbours ?

There will be veggies to harvest during the two weeks we are away so maybe that can be a win-win thing. We have one cucumber a day on average, 3-5 zucchini a week, and the green beans and tomatoes are starting to grow/to turn red.
The kids went out of the house to play on their own in a nearby public lawn, the house was silent and calm, and it lasted more than half an hour. Bliss. I fell asleep on the couch.

Hooray for a bossless peaceful week at payroll, FrenchFly. We have running jokes about gardens oversupplying zucchini (it's that time of year where you have to lock your car or you will come back to a back seat full of "donated" zucchini, etc.) We don't often hear about the plants not producing enough, LOL.

I'm glad you and your DFs all enjoyed your dinner Dogged. To answer your question about my DGrandmother's autograph album, yes, you're right, and someone (I think from the writing it might have been an admirer!) did wrote the "by hook or by crook" verse. But interestingly, some child wrote on the inside of the back cover, "You are wrong, my dear friend, for this is the end. Did you never discover to write on the cover?". The signature/ initials are smudged, but, from the date, it could well be either my aunt or my mother as a child. Some day, I would like to go through the album and make an effort to transcribe at least some of the messages. (I think I'm going to need my glasses, possibly magnifying glass and a step g light! ) More poignantly, there's a newspaper cutting of Laurence Binyon's "To the Fallen" tucked into the section where it appears that several young men left messages.

I'm doing a little deadheading in my garden. Next job water the pots! Then I really need to cogo I side and write my list for the week. There's lots I need to remember!
