Good morning, Trissie! Your cottage looks delightful, and thank you for the explanation. IMHO, the conveniences of modern civilization far outweigh ancient aesthetics, although the latter are often very beautiful!
Over here, it's usually well off families who have "a place" in "Town" (London) during the week, and then go to their country estate for the weekend. (Actually to be strictly accurate, the word "weekend" was considered vulgar by the upper classes, so would be referred to instead as a "Friday to Monday". But I don't think this term is in use any more.

I'm back from C's house. She was fine form, but I need a few minutes to de-compress , as she's very "full on"! The threatened rain has not, so far, arrived, so I'm going to spend some time in my garden now, and then tackle indoors this afternoon. If I prioritise the most important things that *need* to be done today, everything else will keep!
