Morning all. I guess I got lost yesterday too. Sort of a lazy day but I did get some things done at least. My outside front step is decorated. Except I didn't realize the lamp post i bought is battery operated so it's not going to stay on very well outside. Oh well. I wonder if dh could put a different light in and chord lol. Probably dreaming . I baked some ginger snaps . Guaranteed they will be gone in a few days. Dh and my favorite....

Had to get a few groceries and bought more flour and eggs so I could bake. So groceries decorating baking music and crochet. OK. Successful day off.

Today is planned from morning to night with fun stuff. Church and music this morning. Home for lunch and then we're going to my sister's house for the afternoon. Ddil and I are going to be her test students. She's a talented painter and is teaching some painting classes. She's going to teach us and make sure her painting turns out good fast enough to teach and help the class. Practice run. Then I hope I can make band tonight. I wish it was at a different time. Oh well ..

I've been kinda adding to my decor a little at a time they last couple years. Outside is done. My front entry table. I'll probably put up the tree and windows garland and such yet.

Love your cookies trissie. That's kinda familiar here with the cookie exchange. And often mom did that many kinds too. I need to check with dd yet cause dh side of the family enjoys it but we are the bakers of them.

I need to get in the shower. Music is much easier now I don't have to pick songs and print copies for the team etc. Just my own and practice them some.

trissie! I loved the Beethoven movies as a kid. That's so interesting to read about the Christmas cookie baking culture in your country. I read some of your paragraph to dh. According to dh -- the Dutch do not have such a strong baking culture. (Keep in mind he's a man and he hasn't lived in the NL more than a few months for 43 years now. But he is in touch with his 5 sisters.) The bakeries there do sell great cookies that are not overly expensive. How do you keep yours fresh?

We got snow last night, a decent amount, maybe 3-4 inches rather than the 5+ they forecast. It is windy though and 32F. Temps are going to fall during the rest of the day. I'm glad I got in my longer walk yesterday! I might go for a shorter walk at some point today. I'm fine as long as I bundle up well.

Yesterday, I walked 80 minutes while dh ran first thing in the morning! I didn't seem to get much more done after that; I did: do dailies, make a WF run, make a list for the week, email a reply to my cousin J. He's already emailed me back. LOL! I can't keep up with him. For dinner, dh and I opted for sushi and noodle soup at the Asian restaurant next to the coffee shop instead of eating at home. He made a fire in the fireplace last night! I LOVE that winter tradition.

Today, we're going to the Korean church where the Cs and M used to go. Our ex-pastor and still friend, BG, is preaching there this afternoon on the OT, in which he got a PhD. He is a great teacher, especially on OT passages! I might get in a walk. Not sure if I need to get a chicken from WF for dinner tonight or not; M might get one. Other things: payroll - prep for tomorrow, Memorial thank you cards. Perhaps, clean sheets on the bed and at least one load of laundry. We might be hosting dinner -- it depends on the Cs. They might still stay away bc of my covid test on Wednesday. My symptoms are almost gone - but he is an MD and super duper conscientious and careful.

Good morning! It has been a lazy weekend here but I need to get back to routines today, I may not do it perfectly but at least as a warm up for tomorrow.

General ramble… the romaska sounds like it would cook meats to perfection. I love crispy outside, juicy inside. Baking for holidays here consists of pies (pecan, apple, pumpkin), maybe a cake, and my aunt would make a variety of cookies. Her favorite dough could be made into 3 very different cookies, all were good. She also made one out of mainly flour and pecans rolled into small crescents and baked, then coated in powdered sugar, similar to a Mexican wedding cookie but much better and not as dry. It used to all be homemade but now it’s usually store bought as I’m the head chef and my sisters in law will stop on the way to pick up whatever they want to add to the bounty of food. I do love gingerbread, mmm, now I seem to prefer gingerbread cake over cookies. I’m wanting fruitcake too with coffee. I’m so old!

I haven’t felt in the Christmas mood much the past few years but it’s starting to revive itself. I’ve been decorating and sorting more this year. I’m hoping that’s a sign for this to be a good Christmas.

It’s hard to believe it’s advent already. I did order a study guide (at least I thought I did, need to check) on advent to replace the Bible reading for December.

A fire in the fireplace sounds so cozy. It hasn’t been quite cold enough here yet for me to have a fire. Soon though!

Trissie, how much would that tray of cookies cost for you? Here it might run $10-20 at a Walmart type store, and of course you could spend $5 per cookie at a fancier bakery featuring much larger cookies.

Bama, are you the one with Czech family origins? Your aunt does sound a bit like it! Yay for feeling christmas-y! As to buying cookies... I looked up one bakery that gives the exact content and there's about 120 pieces to a kilo. While this may sound a lot, it's all teeny tiny one bite cookies - for example the vanilla rolls are 2 inch long and 1/2 inch wide! Yes, we don't make it easy on ourselves
helia, as with all traditions, there's a very elaborate way to keep everything fresh. We start with things that keep for a long time, like gingerbread cookies (those will taste the same on Easter if you've forgotten a box in the pantry ) and other "dry" cookies like vanilla rolls. Second week of advent, we bake things with jam like Linzer cookies. Third week, it's stuff with butter cream that is kept refrigerated, and the last week it's no-bake cookies and other things that don't last. A lot of the recipes actually require maturing (like gingerbreads and spicy cookies, so they are done early on.

Good morning, afternoon to all y'all!

Yesterday was a continuation of holiday festivities with li'l H & ddil/R. They came to help procure a Christmas tree and decorate. I was not organized enough. The house is a wreck and more decorating to be done. Li'l H was in a game & fun mood, so there was a lot of that, and worth the wreck and disorganization. Make a LOT of notes for next year. The weather has been really cold and blustery the last 4 days. We're hunkering down and just graze with leftovers.

oh.. Thanksgiving... For years, I mean decades, I've brought the veggie, fruit, cheese/crackers - olive/pickle trays - because we live several hours away - and usually spend the night before in an area hotel. Dsil/M asked me to bring desserts this year. There was a revolt when family realized that my trays weren't showing up. There is a somewhat communal socializing going on around the trays before the main meal starts - especially with the "starving" guys. I ran out and bought an already-made-up tray from the grocery. I'm surprised there was one left. It adequately appeased the dissenters.

I "read through", but going to get going before I lose what little mojo I have. . Off to stir up some flybys!
