Trissie, LOL about the songs! I just didn't want anyone to be taken unawares, especially as we are an international group. (I grew up in a very conservative (with a small c) family, and went to an academic but also conservative school, where some things just weren't mentioned. For example, if a couple's first baby appeared 7 months after their marriage, well it must have been very premature!!! Fortunately I was a voracious reader, and was able to educate myself in such matters a lot of the time -we had a very wise and open minded librarian at the local library!)
Over here we have a similar law about unsolicited goods, due in part to a company the kept sending unsolicited samples of their hosiery and then demandin the recipient either paid for them or paid to return them. The courts ruled that the recipient's were not liable for any of this.. Nowadays I do sometimes receive free samples of items to try, usually accompanied by a money off coupon if I decided to buy the full sized version, but even that is getting less common these days.
For the egg whites, have you considered making meringues? Ive a very easy recipe I'd be happy to share, and after the first hour of cooking, they're just left in the (turned off) oven overnight to finish drying out. They keep quite well in a tin so long as they're unfilled. Once you've filled them with whipped cream, or your filling of choice, they do then need to be eaten quite quickly!

LOL trissie ! No, only DS9 and MrNG have their birthdays in December. DS7 was born in July.
kittykatt I listened to the shanty, I was curious. So many folk songs mention things that you don't talk to kids about... and they understand the meanings when growing up.
We've had lunch. Sun is shining. So few days of sunshine and no wind, we've just decided to drive to the wild coast near Quiberon to enjoy the afternoon there. The cleaning and decluttering is overdue and can wait a few more hours or even until tomorrow. Fortunately the headache is gone, blessed be the people who created paracetamol.
TADAs
wrapped MrNg's presents
started wrapping Secret Santa present (for payroll)
helped wtih lunch, we ate, helped with cleanup
TODO
adventures while the sun is shining
not sure what we will feel up to when we're back

Re: Singing Hinny Saturday
Oh, dear, Matilda has been thwarted in her training, and will have to put some thought into demonstrating to her human what she wants, and how to ensure compliance. Matilda, Germane advises planting yourself in front of the human and staring at them. Give no indication of what you want, just stare at them. The human will begin to offer behaviours. Do you want food? Do you want better food? Do you want toy? Other toy? Bed? Softer bed? In this way, the increasingly desperate human will cycle through all possibilities. This can bring to your attention treats that you weren't aware of.
Thank you for starting us off, Kittykatt.
WTG on getting the wrapping done, trissie. I hope that you get a chance to catch up on your sleep this weekend.
WTG on getting your wrapping done, Gma.
I am sorry about the headache, FrenchFly. I hope that it is not flu.
We learnt Billy Boy in school too, Kittykatt, but with different words:
Oh, where have you been, Billy Boy, Billy Boy,
Oh, where have you been, charming Billy?
I have been to seek a wife, she's the joy of my life,
She's a young thing and cannot leave her mother.
Did she ask you to come in, Billy Boy, Billy Boy,
Did she ask you to come in, charming Billy?
Yes, she asked me to come in, there's a dimple in her chin.
She's a young thing and cannot leave her mother.
Did she set for you a chair, Billy Boy, Billy Boy,
did she set for you a chair, charming Billy.
Yes, she set for me a chair, but her mother wasn't there,
she's a young thing and cannot leave her mother.
Did she bake for you a pie, Billy Boy, Billy Boy,
Did she bake for you a pie, charming Billy?
Yes she baked for me a pie, she's the apple of my eye,
She's a young thing and cannot leave her mother.
Not as racy in our version, LOL.
I can't imagine my teachers teaching trissie's song, LOL. I think they would have been fired if we had come home singing that.
Enjoy your trip to the coast, FrenchFly. It must be lovely to be able to reach the coast and see the sea all in one afternoon.
I got up to go to the bathroom, started one of my 20-minute coughing fits, put away the dry dishes and gave Germane treats. She has now taken herself off to her daytime bed in the bathroom. Four hours sleep is not enough for me, so I will follow her example and go to my own bed. [Matilda, Germane says that sometimes modelling the behaviour you want to see can be effective.]

Good morning and thanks for the start kittykatt
Your kitties can keep you amused (and busy
)
Waving to trissie, Dogged, FFly, Gma
FFly hope you feel better soon!
It must smell so good in your homes with all the baking... No idea if I get to baking this weekend: I'll be very pleased to wrap the presents today...
none got done yesterday: I had my DGD for the afternoon/evening. She did a lovely job putting up Christmas decorations on my sideboard...
Nice fluffy throw is covering it: it represents the snow:) I don't know how we'll get dishes out but that's for another day.
I won't make it to the gym today. Those knees took a good beating yesterday. Kept me up whenever I turned at night. Stairs are an issue...
But, we have an outing: I need to get me library hold and go to DGD's recital. (It IS the season)
So far:
Doggie out/in
coffee and wordpuzzles
Next:
D2S
take med
feed Dpup
main floor tidy
vacuum (I have to do it daily... pup sheds)
start first load

Re: Singing Hinny Saturday
Good morning!
kitty ~ thanks for the start! The cakes sound yummy.
It’ll be interesting to see how Matilda acts next time.
trissie ~ feels so good to be caught up on the wrapping.
Gma ~ wow, you are busy! Enjoy the brunch!
Frenchi ~ how thoughtful of you to deliver the package. I hope you can an ecstatic reaction! I redelivered a package to someone in my neighborhood. I was met at the door by a teenage boy with headphones, gave me an “I’m too cool for you icy stare” and took the package.
Doggedly ~ lol ~ your calendar must be related to G’s shovel.
kit ~ ugh.. sorry about the knees. Have you ever tried arnica cream? Wow, your dog is smart!
Bama ~ interesting about the dogs being trained with German. That’s a new one on me.

Re: Singing Hinny Saturday
L.Ann ~ good news on DD! How nice to have a whole month free of doc appt.!
• We got a nice layer of snow on Thursday night, so I went out early Friday morning and shoveled the WHOLE drive way and the sidewalk. We have a snowblower, but have never learned how to run it. It was just so beautiful outside, I rather enjoyed it - especially with my new shovel! I even got out my winter bib overalls which haven't seen the light of day in about 10 years. Ran over to F&F for "ice melt" and did a bit of looking around for Xmas.
• Had some text conversation with the contractor about the tub. I saw a model online that I've never seen before. bathtub. This might be the answer to my space problem. It looks like a freestanding on one side but butts up against the side & back wall - taking up a lot less room than trying to fit in smaller freestanding crossways to the corner. He'll have to go out and measure and make sure there's a way to get the plumbing rerouted. Will check with G first on what he thinks. I did run over and check on the measurements myself. It's have about 3/4" to spare to the door - not much - but it does fit.
• Got another hair cut because the last one kept it too long. I thought I was getting a trim, but she whacked it! omg.. a little too short for me - pretty close to being a pixie. Oh well.. it'll grow.
today's todos:
• Top priority- need to make printouts of all the estimates for the townhouse. G is getting a little testy about not knowing what's going on. He's a boss and he's used to having all the information. And I'm getting testing about him bugging me. I need to get him off my back... and give him some peace.
• Basketball game this afternoon. The neighbors will be riding with us.. 'cuz it just keeps getting colder. Last time I saw, -4 tomorrow.
• Make some corn chowder
• Update my planner

Re: Singing Hinny Saturday
I am familiar with a Billy Boy song, Kitty! I remember a verse about "Can she make a cherry pie, Billy Boy, Billy Boy. . ." And the answer being, "She can make a cherry pie, quick as a cat can wink its eye" and the chorus was: "She's a young thing and cannot leave her mother." So, I think it's the same tune (from a quick perusal of the notes on the website) and idea -- but maybe altered words? --Oh I see the version I learned is similar to the version Doggedly learned. My mother was half (?) Irish.
WTG with all the wrapping, trissie. That must feel good.
You too, Gma - and getting your packages in the mail. I only have 2 to get in the mail (1 to Illinois and 1 to Texas), but I don't yet have all the gifts for them. They need to be in the mail this week.
L Ann, you always have such interesting activities on your lists. Enjoy the art garden market and tuba Christmas! Wonderful news on DD32. I missed it last night!!
Enjoy DGD's recital, kitkat. We missed J12yo's orchestra concert 2 weeks ago. 'Tis the season.
LOL Doggedly! Germane has you well trained.
Glad your headache is gone, FFB. Enjoy your trip to the coast.
Snickerdoodles are among my very favorite cookies, trissie.
Hi Smile! I hope you're having a good day.
I hope I didn't miss anyone; that's as far back as I can scroll.
I was also up late last night -- but not nearly as late as trissie or Gma. I was doing payroll, finishing exam prep drafts and sending out invites for the exit test, which I'm administering on Wednesday.
I have A LOT to do today. It feels like things are piling up in various areas of life other than Christmas prep this week -- of course.
- Car - I need to get my car in to have the tires looked at per the warning light.
- Trust - I need to get some documents in the mail to the trustee.
- Payroll - a little extra work: a friend has asked to observe my class on Wednesday, so I'll need to do extra prep for that day - and then that class will be followed by my proctoring the exit test. I'll also need to create a practice final exam for Friday.
- Medical - I have my EMG Tuesday afternoon for 1.5 hours. *sheesh* Not looking forward to that, but I guess it will be good info.
- Houseguest prep - RH (not sure how to spell his last name - Chinese) will be here on Thursday.
extra laundry and bathroom scrubbing - we'll put him downstairs where he can have more privacy but will use M's bathroom.
Then, there are things I need to do today before dh leaves for Mexico for his monarch butterfly work trip:
- laundry
- figure out book to order for the Ks
- figure out dd30's big gift from us so I can order it
Main Goals for Today:
- laundry
- cardio work out
- documents in the mail to the trustee
- figure out book for Ks; order
- figure out dd30's big gift; order
- wrap 2 gifts for the church charity; label them
- buy 3 rotisserie chickens - WF? Or Kroger?
- 6-8ish CG1; I'll leave early with dh who will need to finalize packing; these trips to Mexico are a little like glamorized camping + a lot of very sensitive high-tech equipment
- maybe: buy new long down coat; I've had my current one for 10 or more years now.
- maybe: order more Cmas gifts
Next:
- some qt
- back exercises
- start a lol
TaDas!
- up; weighed self - down from yesterday's astounding number but still very high
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website; temps are at 24F and are falling all day to 3F. Windchill will be -12F at the coldest point.

Re: Singing Hinny Saturday
Morning all. Hmmm. I've never heard of this recipe either. Haha poor Matilda. I did similar to that to lucky last week too. Looking for my crochet hook that I thought they had run off with and tipped up the red couch. Nope... but lucky snuck under and got trapped in the hollows for an hour or so till I realized why the random paws kept appearing.
Wrapathon is only dreaming here yet. The only thing I have to wrap yet is the things I got for Lil j. He's easy. I might get something else yet from different selection elsewhere
.
That might be on dh agenda today.. snowblower. We did get 4 or 5 inches overnight. As for snow in the freezing temperatures usually right.. I'll have to see with dd.. they are in the extreme north. At least as for this group. It's been a weird year up there probably 2 feet of snow in the cold but maybe it was a little warmer while snow came.
Well my agenda is baking too. Guess I will just go ahead and do it. So far so good. The nasty flu bug that is going around managed to hit ds yesterday. He woke up generally feeling off and got worse in the evening. Hopefully he is better today when he gets up. I also am hoping it avoids dh and I. Busy banquet weekend and cookie exchange and such. Lots of baking and music to do. I can't afford to get sick.
Buns. Danish butter cookies. Sour cream cookies. Truffles. Music practice. Make O holy night work a little better on flute. Oh but I have to make my messy house a little better before I want to bake in it.
Routines first and see how ds is before I start.
