Good morning! The day started here with temp fight around freezing, and dropping ALL day. With wind. So that's a motivation to get up and doing, get my errands done so I can hibernate inside later today.
Laurlind, recommendation for your mom to adapt to the NH: First couple weeks, no outings, unless there's a DR appointment necessary. Mostlikely, the NH will have either a DR or a Nurse Practitioner who comes onsite so routine care can be done without leaving the building.
Make sure someone from the family visits every day, so she doesn't feel abandoned. Have those visits around meal time, to see how the food is, and/or check the activity schedule and accompany her to whatever social activities the NH activity director has planned. Visit with the nursing staff to see how they are seeing her adapt to the new surroundings. As soon as you have access to the room that will be hers, bring some personal things to make the room feel like hers. The ved will be a twin bed. Has she had a twin bed at home? Or does she need a new perky, happy new bedspread to brighten the room? Bring her own familiar pillow and a pretty pillow case (Unless hse is used to haveing plain white). Do not get an oversize bedspread, as it will be difficult to manage with wheelchair, side grab bar for getting out of bed. If they allow things on the wall, hang a couple pictures, get a cork board, and some push pins, so you can hang up cards. (I covered Mother's cork board with a white on white fabric for a background). There was no place to hang coats for visitors, so we bought a hook rack to place near the door for her coat and for visitors. We also placed a shelf on the wall so there was a place for a few small knick knacks, as mother loved to decorate for the seasons. Many people in the NH where mother was, had pictures on the wall of hteir family. mother kept saying this was temporary and she didn't want too much because she was going home, and didn't want us to have to work too hard to pack everything up. On more thing: are you going ot do her laundry? or have them do it? If you want to do it, bring a basket to place soiled clothes in.

On my way before the wintery blast!

Good luck with the errands before the wind comes, Gma!
((Lauralind)), imho, you can prioritize your family, getting your mom settled, and then see how you feel about going in to work. You seem very consistent at work; maybe a day off would be OK - if that is what you need?
So lovely to see you Harriet! It sounds like Christmas is under control at your place. Yes, teens can be hard to buy for and I imagine $$ is always well-appreciated!

I've now figured out that I need to run a bunch of errands. I might split them into 2: visit CG at hospital, Walgreens - looking for specific candy for J12yo, dog store - dog toys for Fable and Raven, 2-3 work out with my trainer, WF. Possibly, Target - if I can't find the candy at Walgreens.

More done, but not much from my main goals.

Main Goals for Today
1. Get car tire checked - drop off car - pick up car
2. Work out with AS 2-3
3. Visit CG? (She's very private so only if she responds to my text.)
4. RH's room ready
5. RH's bathroom ready
6. payroll: make the practice exam (HW for Monday)
7. payroll: prep for AAS D12 (coffee with a friend tomorrow a.m. means I won't have much time to prep tomorrow)
8. Memorial thank yous progress
9. More small things for J12yo's shoe
10. Order dh's gift

Next:
- walk to tire place
- pick up car
- Walgreens stop
- visit CG

Later:
- 2-3 work out with AS
- WF
- put everything away
- More of the posted goals above
- eventually dinner: rice, hummus, roasted veggies, chicken
- after dinner clean up
- welcome dh home!
- duolingo
- update health apps

TaDas!
- up; weighed self
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website: high of 52F, rain arriving around 5/6 pm
- texted CG - would a visit be welcome?
- dropped off car
- walked home
- some qt
- payroll: updated gradelink
- payroll: posted HW assignment
- More texts with CG - visiting is OK and got her new room #
- more online perusal; ordered a couple small things for J12yo shoe - but one may not come in time.
- reclaimed kitchen
- back exercises
- s2exercise clothes and self care
- squeegeed and wiped shower
- 1/2 lunch
- call from tire place: my car is ready

It's 7pm, I am exhausted, but I got home like 30 minutes ago and so I need a list...
Hoping to be back with personal replies, but I used all my rest time either arguing with kids or blankly staring in the general direction of computer screen, not even knowing what was there!

- pick up DBD from school
- grocery run
- long talk with DAunt on the phone (partially while driving, partially sitting in the driveway
- talk to all kids
- argued with some of them
- groceries partially put away

ToDos

Braindump
- morning routine
- midday routine
- afternoon routine
- evening routine
- sort a load of lights and start it
- put away rest of groceries
- start dinner

When I started writing this, it was morning.

Good morning, all. Thank you for starting us off, trissie. I can imagine those 13 desserts on the sideboard being very practical as family and guests can be served from it relieving the hostess for other duties.

Have a good time at church, Kittykatt

That is good insight, Gma. Lauralind and her dfamily still have a role to play in her dmother's care. But Lauralind, at least now you can manage it and fit it in with your other responsibilities.

I hope that the walk back from the car place is a pleasant one, helia.

L.Ann, is the fact that the surgeon wants to push back radiology a good sign that treatment is going well? I hope?

Hi, Harriet.

Oh, trissie, that state of tharn (as Richard Adams called it in Watership Down) is so frustrating because it doesn't rest you and it blocks all productivity. I think it's your body saying that it needs a break. Difficult to comply when you have dkids who decline. Maybe when they're grown you can take a break

Bama was asking me about the concert. It was our armed forces band playing a Christmas concert. There were different styles of music and different types of songs. The most different was a piece that was composed for light switches. There were four musicians flipping light switches, so we could hear the clicks and see the coloured lights turn on and off. Sometimes the pattern sounded like tap dancing, sometimes like Irish dancing, and sometimes it sounded like the drums in a movie when they have built up the suspense and now the fight scene or car chase is happening. I've never seen anything like it.
Of course, there was plenty of Christmas music. They did a very entertaining reading of Roch Carrier's The Hockey Sweater and played the music composed for it. My favourite was the bagpipes and drums. I have never liked the song The Little Drummer Boy, but they played a version that actually moved me, strictly on bagpipes and drums. I really enjoyed the concert, and am glad that that I went.

That sounds like a really interesting concert, Doggedly! Cool about the light switches! The walk to the tire place is mainly along a very busy road with a lot of businesses, so it's not the most cozy or refreshing scenery. But I still got outside and moved.
Oh sorry trissie. Hoping the mulled wine and Christmas recipes bring some refreshment.

Back again. Plan B for the day - I'll visit CG after my work out. I picked up my car at 1:05, and that didn't feel like quite enough time to get there, visit, and then get back across town by 2 pm.

I did find the candy I needed for J12yo! And I got something else for her shoe, so no need to go to the pet store. I ordered something for Fable.

Next:
- work out with AS
- visit CG
- WF run - odds and ends

More done:
- walked to the tire place; picked up the car -- free of charge!! 8-)
- Walgreens: got candy and another item for J12yo's shoe
- home; finished lunch; hid my shoe items
- ran final exam through chat gpt  I have a practice exam that needs a lot of help - - but the bones are there. Lots I can use, and other stuff I'll tweak.

This particular radiation is preventative, dogged so not super urgent. It is internal so they can’t do it until all of the surgery places are healed and I still have undisolved stitches.

I had a lovely morning. We went to see Little Bit’s Christmas program where she was a star. They had yummy baklava and cranberry bliss bars for a snack afterwards. I am not particularly drawn to sweets but those both called my name. Then after I dropped DD32 off I got groceries and used my last 2 coupons. I got a fun puzzle to do when my granddaughter comes this summer and my favorite bath and body lotion.

And to top off the day it is much warmer and the sun it shining. :)

Hello, everyone!

Helia, good news the car is fixed with no charge!

L.Ann, Little Bit's Christmas programme sounded lovely, and how nice to have your favourite sweets! WTG making the most of coupons to get your favourite lotion.

Harriet, WTG getting all those cards done. What a wise and thoughtful decision to give cash to DNiece when you're not sure of her size.

Laura, Gma has very wise advice to help your DMum settle in.

Gma, I use butter when making cakes and biscuits too, as I think it gives a nicer, richer flavour.

Dogged, the concert sounds very interesting!

Today it's rained steadily almost all day. But I managed to hoover the car when it was just misty and not actually raining. :D Church was good and we stayed and chatted over coffee while people were preparing for tonight's concert and tomorrow 's funeral (no one we knew, but apparently she lived in the parish) around us. But we were able to be useful by helping with the sound check.

This afternoon I've been productive+ as well as extra lap time.with Freddie (he insisted! he's a very soppy boy when no one else is around) , I've cut Jude's and Matilda's nails, given them both a brush, their flea control and Laxapet. I've also finished my wrapping, I including DF E's birthday present ( her birthday isn't until the beginning of January, but it made sense to do it while I had everything out).

I still have a few cards to write, and I need to hand deliver the ones for people on the neighbourhood - maybe tomorrow if it stops raining (the forecast is supposed to be sunny!). I also need to think when I need to get the Christmas meat out of the freezer and when I need to start preparing the veg for both Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

Not even at the end of page 1, but I try! :-)

kittykatt, are you hand-delivering Christmas cards?
helia, yes, I will be working from home tomorrow and again on Monday, and then I am finally off work! Normally, I'd have enough vacation days to have at least one or two child-free days home before they get out of school, but I will have to do home office while they are already on Christmas break on Monday. Oh well, at least I can do the home office thing!
gma, that's a really cool idea, to replace water with orange juice, never thought of that!
