kittykatt, not reading English properly is a challenge! I am still not fully comfortable reading in Russian, so I sooo understand!
helia, is DNiece a minor, or is because of her special needs (I think you mentioned that somewhere?) that she would need a guardian? Yes, the family drama is not helping. On top of everything, I've learned something that was apparently being kept from me because the person in question knew I would not be happy about it. I don't know about it officially, so can't do anything about it, and as always, I will be left to deal with the inevitable fallout.

For the time being, I am done with work and can switch to housework! :-)

We have a good climate for growing figs here, but summery treat. Don't usually think of it for holidays. The Celeste and the Brown Turkey are the ones I know best. Celeste is sweet and would do well for a figgy pudding dessert.

I've often wondered about the figgy pudding, too. I would think you could make a fig preserve (done a lot here) and use that in the wintertime in an adapted figgy pudding recipe. You'd probably come close to SOME historic recipe, since there's so much history. (smile) I'm really glad it has nothing to do with piggys.

I just put our Christmas Eve day family get-together onto our calendar in
Bright Red pen.
Last evening, HRH asked for "Christmas Lasagne" (he made up the connection to Christmas). I don't know if I can add another cooking responsibility and the space for it, but it's a thought. He is right that there would be none left - one thing I make that my family is unanimous about. He is thinking he won't like the things others bring.

Btw, time to begin a chat about any decisions we're making for 2026 Planners and other paper scheduling, if we'd like.

New 2026 thread in the Organizational Tools and Skills Forum below.

Planners are the annually re-addressed aspect of our potential scheduling, more than most others. The Cardfile, the Basic Weekly Plan, etc., may go on for indefinite periods without purchases or changes, but Planners of all kinds, including calendar planning, need end-of-year/beginning-of-year thought, maybe actual outlay of money (gasp).

Where are you going this weekend, L.Ann?
Harriet, I think the figs used in fig pudding would be dried ones. Funny how you don't associate them with Christmas and for me, dried figs and dates would be like "the extra" bought once a year for Christmas! I never liked dried figs, but as they were only available once a year, I ate them anyway. Now fresh-picked figs, that's a different story! :-)

Almost 7pm. DBD is fussy, tired from the week, and the teens, I haven't seen them exit their rooms since they came from school. So no tree decorating today. I'm tired, so I guess I will hide in the bedroom and listen to an audio book while folding and ironing laundry! I have the memoirs of a Chinese human rights lawyer downloaded, so it will be educating.

Hello, all. It's pretty nice out right now, but our forecast is for rain changing to snow as the temperature drops, and icy conditions, so a nice day to stay in.

Friday
Treats for dog X 1 million
Benedryl for dog
Cleaned up after dog
Put on a pot of coffee
Scrubbed out sink and basin
Washed some dishes
Refilled water bottle and put it in fridge
Wiped down accessible surfaces
Put microwave plate and rice cooker liner in to soak

Hello, everyone!

Helia, I hope you enjoy your dinner with DH

Harriet, we can get fresh figs too, but my best memory of them is at Christmas when they came in a round wooden box. I think they must have been partially dried in some way and then coated with sugar. Thank you for letting us know about the planners thread. I'm going to take a look, as I'm a distinct amateur. I have a his &hers calendar for the kitchen (which DH is always forgetting to fill in!) my filofax in my bag and a journal where I try and write three things to be thankful for each day. I also write thoughts and hopes and prayer lists. I haven't done so well this year, mainly because there was something "not quite right" about the journal (still not sure what the problem was) but I have higher hopes for next year - I already love the feel of my 2026 journal!

Hiding in the bedroom to escape fractious children sounds an excellent strategy, Trissie!

We had sun too, L.Ann, and no wind, which was lovely, but it did get chilly once the sun went down.

Dogged, that sounds a very good day to stay inside!

I'm glad you enjoyed the party, Bama!

Today has been lovely with sunshine and blue skies. I've also delivered all the cards, sent 2 emails and thinking about the third (the 4th will have to wait until I have a reply from the second one  ) so that's progress.

I've had a good session in my garden, and DNeighbour S painted some more on my side of his fence. The climbing hydrangea in is now gone, I'm a little sad, but it was a struggle to keep it within bounds and it was also growing into the fence itself - not good. S has cut it down and taken it out, which has saved me a job, and also wants all the branches for a "project" so we just threw them over the fence into his garden. The climbing rose is staying - that was the original agreement back in the spring, and S also likes it. (Possibly because he can get all the enjoyment of it without any of the work pruning and training it! ) S has also offered to paint my gate, so that's another win. He may come back and do some more tomorrow, or possibly Sunday / Monday, depending on the weather. Ive also done some tidying and deadheading, and fed the pots.

The men did come home briefly when I was out in the garden, but there's no sign of them so far this evening. Ive heated up the leftover chicken soup for my supper. The cats haven't been asking for supper yet, so I'll wait a bit longer to do theirs
