Good morning, all. It is a bright sunny day here, reported to be warm--a rarity in winter. However, the way that the tops of the evergreen trees are waving cheerfully at me makes me think that it would not feel as warm out there, LOL. The forecast is for snow flurries. It's fine, it's winter.

Kittykatt, the space I have available in which to store food is my single-room apartment. We are specifically prohibited from keeping food in the lockers, a decision that I agree with. We have mice outside the building and I can see the traps around the basement entrance as they work to keep them out of the building. I think that I have come up with a reasonable compromise. The onions are hanging from the laundry cart in the back of my walk-in closet. The closet has no door, but it is as far as you can get from the patio doors, which are the only window. If I use the dw, I leave it with its door open overnight to dry out. In that case, I moved the onions to the other end of the dw cart to get them away from the moisture that the dw is giving off. When I get up, I closed the dw door and put the onions back in the back of the cupboard, away from the light. I think that this will work.
I am in open-mouthed astonishment that you have flowering pansies and cyclamens at the same time as ice. I can't keep pansies alive in any weather. I love them, but they take one look at me and say "Oh, it's you." and drop dead. Cyclamens are great flowers, but I have only ever had them as an indoor potted plant.
I'm glad that your DF enjoyed her party.

FrenchFly, your math shows me that you will be hearing about my onions for a good long time, LOL. It's a good thing that I love them.

That must have been very worrying at church, Kittykatt. At first when I read that one of the older ladies had one of her "turns" this morning, I thought that she had decided that it was her turn to preach the sermon, LOL.

helia, I have done ordinary sudokus, but not the especially hard ones. I think that they were called number squares in the 1970's in the Dell puzzle magazines that my db and I used to do. I really like kakuro, but I am so bad at them that it's not funny. I can barely get through the easiest levels, LOL. Those are the ones that look like a crossword puzzle, but it's all numbers and addition.

Hi, kitkat. I'm sorry that you lost your post. That is frustrating. I think that we will be sharing your weather. I see that our windchill has dropped one degree while I've been sitting here.

Hi everyone! I had a lovely long walk with my friend. Thankfully the rain seems done.

I like the copymeapp for recipes, FFB. I started using it when I changed our diet to a more Mediterranean one and was collecting a lot of new recipes. When I check a cookbook out of the library I just add the couple of recipes I want to the app. My menus look organized because I often get 3 meals for the week from one of the two meal services I use. They send recipes and ingredients for the meals I pick. Then I just fill in around them.

Kitkat, enjoy your book. What are you reading? You asked the other day what I was reading and I didn’t post again…for book club it’s the Kamala Harris book and she will do a zoom call with us next month, for pleasure it’s Brenda Gantt’s coffee table book, a southern woman telling life stories, tips, and recipes with lots of family and food photos. She used to teach science and you can see the teacher in her coming out.

LAnn, I have wondered about those food services. Do you like the foods? Over or under seasoned? Lots of choices?

Doggedly, I love onions too and they are supposed to keep illnesses away. I can suggest French onion soup as a delicious way to use up a few. There’s an onion casserole too, which is just a mix of onion, butter and cheese, topped with cracker crumbs, a very southern us dish, so I’m not sure if it would appeal to you.

FFB, enjoy “young adult” books too, the mysteries usually contain a good story but not too gory or vulgar.

Helia, I’ve never heard of jigsaw sudokus. Is it an app? I’m afraid to look it up as I have enough to do without adding a game to my dailies lol.

Kittykatt, I’m glad the woman at church recovered. I first read it and thought it was her turn to speak in front of everyone lol. Very grateful for the support of medical professionals on hand, it must have been uncomfortable for her.

I think I addressed you all. I thought I might have missed trissie at the top but looks like she hasn’t posted today. Sending good thoughts.

Nothing really new for me. We ran errands Friday, a little frustrated at the power company for telling me one thing in the phone and quite a different story in person, which requires more to do’s from me to close out my mother’s and aunt’s accounts. And I’m not executor but my brother dumped this on me thinking it would be easy and I live closer to the company. Oh well. Now waiting on a formal response via mail from the power co before I can do anything else. We did eat at a Chinese buffet that is delicious. It’s in the smallest town around us but offers the most selections. We got it to go and came home and enjoyed it while watching a mystery show.
Saturday was lazing around the house, doing bare basics to keep things simple.
Not sure what we are doing today, it’s half over already. Dh is coming down with a cold and unhappy doing nothing. I’m not really arguing.

FFB, we have also those mini "libraries" in cupboards where people donate books and other people take them to read. They're usually in undercover areas of shopping precincts. I read about the galette des rois years ago, when I read a book called "the happy orpheline" (sp?) in English translation - a charming feeling good book about a happy "family" of orphans and their adventures. One of these adventures included one of the little girls being chosen to help make the galette (I think they used a bean rather than a little figure ) and she made a dent with her thumb in the surface, so she could be sure her best friend got the "special" piece and was queen for the day.

I hope you have a good time at church, Helia. Those sudokus sound very challenging!

Dogged, that sounds a very good solution for onion storage. The cyclamen I have flowering outside are the smaller, hardier cousins of the indoor flowering ones.

The experience with the power company sounds very frustrating, Bama. I'm glad you enjoyed the Chinese buffet.

I've had a lovely relaxing afternoon. Lunch was roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots, Savoy cabbage, creamed leeks, gravy, followed by coffee crème. We've also watched a Poirot, and I've done some more investigation into my dolls house. The lady I've been corresponding with asked to see some picture of the windows and wallpaper, that might help her identify it. I'm now waiting for her reply. I'm also amazed at how kind people are and how willing to share their knowledge .
