I love watching figure skating, trissie! It is beautiful and athletic at the same time. Glad you can WFH today.
I hope payroll is going smoothly, FFB. You're almost at the weekend!
Yikes - hail, Kitty! Hope the rain lets up when you head out to the osteopath. It does sound like a day to stay indoors - AND it sounds like you're making progress!
Good luck finishing packing and getting ready, Gma. That's very thoughtful of you to bring home baked bread! Yum!

It is 2*F (-16.7C) right now, so slightly warmer than forecast. But this is the high point of the day, and temps are forecast to continue to drop throughout the day down to -12*F (-24.4C) with a windchill of -23F (-30.6C) tonight. BUT I think we're going to see the sun! โ˜€๏ธ What temps are you seeing, Gma, kitkat, Doggedly?

I was excited to weigh in this morning because I've been keeping on track with my eating this week. I was rewarded - with a 1 pound jump UP from yesterday. :x I hope it's not real. This middle aged body really doesn't want to shed extra pounds. *sigh* However, I DO need to shed some and get into better shape by August when we're doing another Alp hiking tour with dh's family.

Today: I'm meeting an old friend from our past church for coffee at 10 a.m. I think they're still at the church; it will be interesting to catch up with her. This afternoon, I'm going to the gym again with the girls. I'll aim for jogging and then a little swimming. Tonight, I think dh and I are going out to eat, though I've told dh I'm happy to eat at home since at 7 pm it will be -18F with the windchill. In between, I'd like to make serious progress on the same list I've posted all week: New Year cards, writing, payroll - exam prep, laundry, guest beds. That should keep me out of trouble!

Next:
- some qt
- back exercises
- s2s and self care

Later:
- squeegee and wipe down shower
- reclaim kitchen
- make the bed
- load of lights: w d f pa

- gym: swim
- gym: hot tub
- writing 30 minutes +
- payroll: start exam prep

gma, I've packed large baked goodies in (clean, of course) trash bags before!
I used to skate a lot when I was a girl, kittykatt, but I think the last time I actually went was... yeah, it was a Christmas party with a law firm I worked for in 1999-2002. They rented a public ice-skating arena for the evening, half of the ice was covered by wooden podiums with buffet tables, and the other was for skating. I remember skating slaloms with a champagne stop and how skating back was harder than the first leg :-) We were all so young - the law firm had one senior-ish partner (in his 50's) and the rest was young lawyers in their late twenties or thirties. And the whole administrative bunch, of which I was a member (there was 5 of us college students on late shifts - we would come in at 4:30pm and stay till 10pm to provide secretarial support - or to take calls should somebody call in late. Or do nothing, usually, after 8pm, and be paid for it, because they were a part of an international chain which requested all offices to be manned till at least 10pm :-)
Frenchie, when I started in my current company, they didn't do home offices either. But I crept up on them - when the "I have a sick kid, can I work from home or do I take a sick kid leave?" proved to work just fine, I simply requested a Friday on home office for good. A job done is a job done, as far as everybody is concerned. But I don't think they were able to realize job can be done without supervision before. Could you maybe start training your workplace too?
helia, I don't think -24C should be a temperature! I mean, come on, your teeth start hurting when you sneeze in this weather! What knitting project are you considering?
hope being called to DD's place was not for something serious, kitkat!
L.Ann, a doctor's visit will always throw a wrench in whatever plans!

โ˜€๏ธGood morning!

Kittykatt, picturing you trying to dress Freddie and itโ€™s not pretty. Yikes to hail.

Trissie, hope things calm down today and over the weekend cooler heads prevail.

Gma, I hope this crazy weather doesnโ€™t affect your plans. I might have to โ€œconfiscateโ€ one of your braids if I was checking you in at the airport.

Ffb, hope you can find a job that suits you well.

LAnn, hope the appt goes well.

Kitkat, hope all is well with dd.

Helia, what a beautiful yard I am picturing. Hope the animals arenโ€™t near the busy road.

Dogged, itโ€™s good to have someone to chat about all things with.

Dh has gone to his appointment so time for me to clock in.
Weather here is a little muggy, we are supposed to get rain all weekend from this cold front coming through the country. Itโ€™s 59F/15C right now. We will be going to 43(6)/27(-3) Monday which is a big shift. Dh is doing a grocery pickup afterward so I need to make room for all the stuff.

Done:
Weigh
Emails
Breakfast
Spot clean floors
Pet chores in progress
โ™ฅ Wake each day expecting good things to happen! โ™ฅ

trissie well done if you managed to train your workplace. I think some workplaces are easier to train than others. Others have tried, nothing worked. I think if I were to break two legs and be unable to drive myself to work, then could agree to something... Not even sure. Coffee at 5 pm ?

helia it is the weekend at last ! Hiking in the Alps ? I'm curious about where... It can be dangereous depending on the altitude... I hope you can shed some weight till then, if that is what you want.

kitkat, that is cold. I hope your trip to DD's is short and safe and warm.

L.Ann I hope the doctor finds you well.

Hi Bama, I'm more or less looking at job offers daily. As long as MrNG is mostly unemployed, I neeed to find ajob that pays as well or better than the current one. Later, I can search for a job I like.

Home after payroll. MrNH did the picking of the grocery order, he had to get gas. I need to relax, but he is preparing his big day tomorrow as self-employed consultant, which should earn him approx 1000 euros for a whole day there. I'll be alone with the kids all day. And there's dinner and lols and other stuff to catch up on.
Someone just came to pick up the bed rail we had put online for free. That will free up some space in the garage. It had been online for months.

TADAs
Morning rush
Walked kids to school gate, left them at closed gate, rushed to work, was late
Payroll day
PA groceries with MrNG's help
a lol in

TODOs
prep dinner
lol on drying rack
another lol ?
have dinner, clean up
after dinner routine
Relax a bit and enjoy week-end ?
read before bed

Hello, dSHEs! Happy Friday! Here's wishing a happy weekend free from work stresses for all of our payroll SHEs, and the ability to shelter inside for those of us in the arctic vortex. I am lucky to be on the edge, not in the worst of it: the actual temperature is -12 C, so normal winter temperature, and the wind chill is just above -20 C, so cold but nothing unusual. Poor Gma is going to have to travel in it, but if anyone is prepared to deal with the cold, my money is on Gma!

Thank you for starting us off, trissie. Figure skating can be so beautiful.

Gma, my db didn't test the yeast, and I think that it has been much longer than he realized since he has used it. His bff mostly keeps them supplied with food from donations, from various programs in Quebec City and from volunteer work that she does. She kept giving him store bread, so he had bread to use up and could never get to the point of making his own. He has convinced her to stop accepting bread as I think that she doesn't eat it, and he would rather make his own. He does use a bread machine. He's just going to buy some fresh yeast.
Something interesting: he is planning to make his own sourdough starter and start making sourdough bread. That should be interesting.

Thank you Kittykatt. I am back to normal today. I think that you are VERY wise not to try to dress Freddie for the outdoors. I think that it would invoke his inner Freddie Kruger.

FrenchFly, we are seeing the same pattern of ending Work From Home in Canada. It's so disheartening to see workers lives made worse in so many ways just so that the richest people can keep up the property values on their commercial properties. ESPECIALLY when we're going through a housing crisis and so many of those properties are sitting on prime sites to redevelop as affordable housing. Big companies are using Return To Office as a way to accomplish layoffs without having to pay severance etc. All levels of our government are on side with this, forcing their employees back into the office when they don't even have enough space or desks for them all. Employees who moved out of the cities are now facing losing their jobs and being stuck with a mortgage in a lower employment area. I feel so badly for them. I had fantasized about working from home the first 40 years of my working life.
I hope that you find a job where your efforts are appreciated and with better working conditions.

WTG on getting those kitchen cupboards cleaned out, KittyKatt, and kudos on timing it just before your visit to the osteopath.

I am at the end of Page 1 and anxious to get up make progress on something.

Friday
Cleaned up after dog
Treats/breakfast for dog: all rejected for now
Put on a pot of coffee
Put away dry dishes
Took vitamin
Worked on sorting bag from top of entertainment centre
Looked up how to factory reset tablet with broken screen before putting it in bag to take for electronic recycling
Watered plant. It was strangely resistant to being watered, so after half an hour of sitting in a tray of water, dumped the water and watered it from above.

Frenchie, I was always able to train my workplaces for home-office, even before it was cool :-) Of course, with my former workplace, it was "well, I know you are very desperate because I am the only senior member of the team left, and I wouldn't mind some extra money, so I am willing to work at a very limited capacity during my maternity leave, but don't expect me to come to the office - or work during office hours, I'll get the work done when I can and I will bill you for what I do." I don't think they would have been too amicable to the idea otherwise.
Bama, I kinda forgot that gma was baking those braided breads, so I was imagining you stealing her some hair braids, and suddenly I had this vision of you breaking of one of her frozen rasta hair braids! I blame watching Cool runnings for that, as there is a scene there where Sanka's rasta braids are so frozen in the cold Calgary weather that he breaks one when touching it! :-)
Dogged, home-grown sourdough starter will take some time to become mature. I don't know about Canada, but there are maps of people who are willing to share sourdough starter with you if you want some. I started mine from semi-scratch (I bought a package of dried sourdough starter that you would feed over the course of several days), but it still took several months of weekly baking before it was strong enough to sustain full fermentation of bread. I still have it, by the way - six years down the road. Almost killed it several times (it's millions of bacteria, not a dog, so you usually can restart it even if it looks dead), but it's still here happy to do the job! :-)

So, I'm home. It wasn't an easy talk (I was kinda tasked by other parents to straightforward tell the chapter leader something that very much upsets the status-quo and makes things harder for them, even if it is not their fault), but I think it went well. I've known the chapter leader for over 8 years (we're currently the longest running family of this scout chapter) and they know I support their work. And it was nice to meet at this quiet cafe and talk it over.

TaDas

Trissie lol at the braid comment. Iโ€™ll take a pass on the hair.

Dogged, best of luck to your db. Iโ€™ve wanted to make sourdough for years but it hasnโ€™t happened yet.

Ffb, it can be hard raising a family and working, it would be nice to have a job you can look forward to rather than dreading. Btdt and it was very stressful.

Done:
Weigh
Emails
Breakfast
Spot clean floors - feed, water, litter
Pet chores
Dust
Vacuum
Put fish tank filter in cat water bowl to see if it helps encourage them to drink
Opened and put away Christmas stems I ordered on sale after Christmas
Put Avaโ€™s late Christmas gift and wind creek card in her room
Put away groceries

Lunchtime!
