I woke up to a rainy morning. bleh. That's not common here, at least not this time of the year. Rain is more spirit-damping than snow, imho. Then, I thought of Kitty and FFB who seem to regularly have rain and yet still live full and meaningful lives. LOL!

Kitty, interesting about Sir Raleigh! He is an explorer I do know a little about as a colonizer here. I forgot that he actually never set foot on this country but rather funded several expeditions and settlements that did not succeed, I believe. Raleigh, North Carolina is named after him. I didn't know about his political troubles with King James and the Spanish. Hope you had a good morning at church!
Kitkat, yikes on lots of rain/freezing rain. Hoping it continues to melt.
Nice to have happy news, FFB. Is Mr NG away right now with his training program?
Hi Harriet! I'm glad you commented on Sir Walter Raleigh as you live in North Carolina. Yes, I associate Marco Polo with silk as well.

Last night, I went to the girls' place because dd27 had made homemade donuts. Yum!! It was a fairly productive day, mainly payroll. Besides prepping and teaching my class, I also got the exam checklist updated; I still need to edit the reading checklist - today. I stopped by the post office and got the cards in the mail and went for a short jog.

Today, I might go to the 6:30 Ash Wednesday service. Other than that, I need to exercise - a long walk, maybe? I have payroll I need to do: GGT spreadsheet, edit reading checklist, and start prep for AR D3. Progress on brain dump list items would be awesome!!

Next:

- read for fun
- duolingo
- update health apps
- dinner: rice, chicken, hummus, veggie

- bring bins back from curb
- other things?

TaDas!
- finished puzzle in bed - bc I could but  getting up late

Happy Ash Wednesday to all who observe it!
kittykatt, I'd say get the MMR jab anyways! Digging through old papers can uncover some real treasures!
Frenchie, yay for the boss not being there today!
being done with WHB on Wednesday morning, kitkat - you sure you're a SHE? :-)

The dinner yesterday was lovely. DH even ordered a "birthday surprise", which was their robotic delivery cart (you can google it - it's marketed under the name BellaBot) singing me Happy birthday while delivering a cake with a fountain candle :-) DH also got me a rare out of print book that I have been eyeing for a couple years (it's a first in a series and usually one appears on used books online market every two or three months and gets snatched quickly), so that's another treat! The guy really likes to spoil me :-)
And today is Ash Wednesday. My blood sugar is NOT happy about the fasting thing, though. It's a struggle even on normal days and sticking to non-meat very simple not-full meals is not ideal! I did add snacks, though, I'd collapse otherwise, but... yeah. Home from work, long list of todos, but I may have to be realistic and just stick to basics today.

TaDas
- morning madness
- day at work
- pick up DBD from school

ToDos

- fold laundry from dryer
---
- midday routine

- pick up DBD from scout session

Good morning, all. I am pleased and proud to announce that I am up and functioning while it is still morning, LOL. I am organizing my shopping. I was surprised to find that Best Buy, the electronics store, does not carry coax cables. Canadian Tire, the automotive store, does. And Home Depot, the renovate-your-bathroom store, has a better selection of them, LOL. That works out for me, as I would like to drive in the opposite direction of Canadian Tire to buy local eggs. Home Depot is on my way. I don't need any other groceries this week. I'm just trying to decide if I need an extension cord or power bar, and if I should use a mending plate, in which case I might need screws.

Thank you for the interesting start, Kittykatt. I was familiar with how popular Walter Raleigh was with the court (and he certainly did enough for them!) but not about his unpopular times and sad end.
The company's approach to cables is certainly confusing. I have never supported cable modems, but satellite receivers are connected to the modem in the house by a coax cable, so I'm familiar with their issues. Imagine if a customer is switching to your company because of spotty internet, and the issue is damage inside the coax cable. You send them a brand new modem and router and tell them to use the same old cable. So their problems persist, and they blame you! It seems like a poor business model to me.
About the vaccinations, what I was saying is that in Canada it seems to be up to the patient to track their vaccinations, so if your parents didn't make note of what you got when you were five, then you have to guess. Whereas pet vaccinations are tracked by the veterinarian and the information passed onto the next vet and to the owner at every visit.
Big WTG on your excellent filing system that allowed you to find your papers so quickly.

Hi, FrenchFly. I hope that payroll is peaceful today.

kitkat, you got me curious about the weather, as it is clear here. The weather system that you are in is almost all south of the Great Lakes. It looks like you got included by proximity. The good news is that the prevailing wind is coming from me to you, and there is no rain/snow here.

Hi, L.Ann.

Blackadder was one of the funniest shows ever, Kittykatt!

Today I Learned that Sir Walter Raleigh is not as well known as Queen Elizabeth I. I had always assumed that people learned about them together. I knew that he was an explorer who had contributed a lot to England's territory acquisitions. I thought that he was also a pirate and that that was where his wealth had come from, but I could be wrong. England in QE I's time was in a race against Spain to grab territory. England licensed pirates to raid Spanish ships, and if the pirates could make it back to Britain, they would be protected. I guess that changed in King James' time, but honestly executing Sir Walter Raleigh for that really makes it look like retaliation for trying to unseat him.

Ah, I see that Harriet knows about Sir Walter Raleigh.

Thanks for the good news on the weather, Dogged! Current wind is NE - about to change for E. Hope that works in our favour. As it is, it's not too bad out. Mushy ice on the ground.... if we can call it ice?
trissie - I used to get it done (back in the day...) on Mondays, including beds, including plants. I think, spreading it over two days might be workable. (Although I was exhausted  )
Yay for a lovely celebration! I LOVE getting books as presents! (Always did)
helia we have had a lot of water on the ground thanks to the melting snow... Dogged mentioned the sump pump. I have to admit I really don't know much about them. I know we have one. Plumber checked it 2-3 years ago. Let's hope it holds up
Harriet - amazing, especially, given that education changes ALL the time. (At least, here...)
Kittykatt - we did the titre last fall when measles became a threat. (I had no records, DH had no records)
LAnn how is DD doing?

Just sat down for a cup of coffee.
Took the advice of a home organizer. She said, picking up "stuff" from the floor makes an instant improvement. ( I have to agree. )
I've been doing that for a while now, my back is hurting, but, yes, there is an improvement.

Off to laundry room
then
back to pUPAs

L.Ann, I see DD is out with her friends - enjoy the quiet house!
kittykatt, I plan to listen to an Ash Wednesday service tonight, haven't had a chance to attend in person.
what a funny story about Sir Walter, Harriet !

Did a double drive to the scout meeting place - ten minutes after I got home from picking up DBD, DS (who was very late coming from school today) came downstairs and was like "well now I am ready to go, I told them I'd be late!" Well you told me "I am running late", not "I want you to drive me somewhere late!" Days like these...

L Ann, I hope you enjoyed lunch out with friends!
You're the taxi driver as well, trissie. What a special evening you had with dh!
Oh, that's true, Kitkat. Keeping floors tidy helps - but be careful with your back. I need to do a lol too - towels.
Doggedly, I'm useless with cables, etc. I suppose if dh didn't do it all I'd be more competent. The sun is just starting to shine here! --Oh, I remember the Blackadder!!! So funny! I wonder if one could still watch it somewhere?

This is so typical for me: I have a very open day and I'm struggling to be productive in it. I think it's the IGAD syndrome.

Next for me, some payroll tasks and then I'll figure out what I want to do -- walk or jog outside.

Next:
- payroll: GGT spreadsheet
- payroll: edit reading checklist
- figure out exercise

Later:

Hmmm there it is. I posted this morning and couldn't find it. Got the end of yesterday's thread. Now I'm back from editing my morning slightly. Ds is home again. I'm going to have to check in and see if I should get him some catch up work. Because he stayed home I went to see h instead of her coming here. Back now sitting here deciding what next.

Kitchen clean. Some details put strong cleaner in toilet tanks i think buildup was preventing it working right. My range hood filters are soaking hopefully to look clean again.

--‐-‐‐----------

Morning all. Looks like a busy day here. I have been kinda hit and miss posting maybe just cause I don't have much new to report. I have been very unmotivated at home somehow. Ds did quite a bit of cooking last week and now it seems like he has the cold I had then. I've putttered in the kitchen never all the way finished.. laundry usually stays caught up. I put a bunch away yesterday but there's a load needs dryer. I Sweep everywhere every few days. Other than that Monday was family day holiday and I didn't do much.

Well ok ds was in bed till almost lunch time.. my hint he was sick. I did some piano and watched a few videos for attempt to learn a new piano style. More to watch today. And try some. But that was a minor music break through lol. The rest of the day was taking an hour to figure out much by going to pick up a few things to eat.

My blanket is still sitting here just need to make one more row and decide if I have yarn for one more or how to finish it. Technically the pattern should end with the double crochet row then a straight single crochet. The color rotation is perfect for dark edge but I think it only has enough for one row and part? Just means pick up the hook and see.

H is coming this morning. Will ds go to school. Probably just as well. He made no effort to do thd zones for wrestling and maybe not have qualified for provincial. Most of the team is going to provincial this morning and he is sick anyway so just as well. I need to do whb. Some cleaning. Piano work.. finish my blanket. Someone asked it's actually supposed to fit my craft room color scheme a throw for that bed just cause.

Priority list

Finish kitchen all the way
Session with h

Finish blanket
Vacuum
Dust
Garbage out from everywhere
Stay out of the grocery store?
Hopefully ds to school? nope
Some music theory and piano work

Today's tada list

Start laundry
Tidy living room
Tidy table of all my scattered music

Finish qt
Shower
S&s both baths and reboot laundry
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom

Empty and reload dw
Finish tidying kitchen all the way
Wash pans that I never finish all the way
School run i hope
General straighten before h comes unless ds is home should I go to her

Hi Lauralind! I'm still dreaming about joining you for crochet...
helia a little sunshine would make my day. I just came up from 3rd load of laundry (bedding/towels) and am calling it quits.

DGD is here - fed her a good snack. She is enjoying her 'programs' - then we'll do some watercolour. (Her fav. activity here.)
DDog has been out several times - she concurs that the weather is not for us.

Hi, helia. I'm glad that you had a good day--and doughnuts!--yesterday.

What a wonderful birthday, trissie! WTG on your DH for organizing it.
Do you have to fast for Lent, if it is causing you health problems? I was raised in protestant churches, so it wasn't part of my upbringing to fast.

Oh, dear, kitkat, laundry is not going to help your back. Luckily, you can take your time with it, and take breaks if you need to.
And let's hope that you don't need the sump pump at all.

I have delved into the subject of surge protectors, coax cables and mending plates, and have decided to temporarily use my old lawn mower heavy duty extension cord/surge protector, and once I decide how long it needs to be and how many plugs it needs (and how much room between plugs) then I can plan a trip to Canadian Tire. For today: Home Depot to get coax cable and look at mending plates as they are handy to have, and then to the butcher for local eggs.

It looks like I wrote the above and then never posted it. D'oh!

That sounds like a frustrating day at Mom's Taxi Service, trissie.

It's just all practice, helia. My time supporting satellite modems should stand me in good stead setting up my cable modem. :)
Sometimes when the day is wide open, it can be hard to decide where to start.

What could be more appropriate for your craft room than a throw that you made yourself, Lauralind? :)

Wednesday
Put on a pot of coffee
Planned shopping
Cleaned up after dog
Breakfast for Germane.
Papered her pen
Spiffed self
Went to butcher: no eggs
Went to Home Depot and bought coax cable and a couple of mending plates
