I've spent the afternoon trying to analyze census record, 1860, 1865 and 1870 and can't get a system going. Surprised that it's 5:40 here already. Dh mentioned earlier taking something out of the freezer for our dinner but I suspect he forgot.

Need to head down and walk the dog and see about food. I've been down the rabbit hole, flailing away.

I was in the garden for 10 min. ish. so glad for the mild temps. and a bit of sunshine here this afternoon.

Pumpkin custard is baking in the oven now.

Yep, beware the ides of March here. The weather is just about perfect right now, a little windy, but nice. 70-something degrees. DGD and I went out and sat on the porch swing for a little while. However, we are under a wind advisory, freeze warning, and school is delayed two hours in the morning.
No word yet on whether we will have a softball game tomorrow night, when the temperature is expected to be 36 degrees. Brrrr...

This has been a day. Both dgrands wanted to come home with me after lunch -- we all (dgrands, DS, ddil) ate together at the restaurant across the street from our church. I told them if they came home with me, they were just going to watch me sleep (because I probably got about two hours' worth last night. I just couldn't settle down.) However, they did NOT watch me sleep -- they went outside and played softball for awhile... then came inside and played hide and seek, which they drew me into, and then they put on a play for me -- a very loose adaptation of The Wizard of Oz.
They attempted a version of the Nativity story, but when it was dgd's turn to be the angel and speak to Joseph, she rebelled and said she was starving to death and we needed to go eat supper.

I took them home and went inside to tell DS/ddil that if the storms got really bad tonight, I would return... but oh my goodness, I hope not. The lady who cleans for them is supposed to come tomorrow but honestly, I don't see how she can do much. It makes me nervous to spend 10 minutes in their house -- they are just so careless with everything -- every flat surface has stuff piled on it and it is just ridiculous. * I didn't say anything! Kept my lips zipped. I don't think they will ever change, but I know they have to be a little bit embarrassed by it, because if anyone comes to the house, they usually meet them at the door and don't invite anyone inside. MAYBE when DGD gets old enough to date, she will take a little more responsibility -- even though it's not all her mess. DS and DDIL contribute at least half of it.

OH -- and I sorta had a panic attack after lunch. It's ridiculous. I'll put it in MO.

To finish March -- I absolutely MUST get my photos and scrapbook items organized and out of the chairs in the computer room. This has been my "zone" almost since New Year's Day. I am making a new resolution tonight! It will be done before the end of this month.
I also want to re-type my Christmas card address list -- which I THOUGHT was already in my computer but apparently not -- and I want to get the Christmas 3x5s re-done as necessary. Some of them are fine as they are, but some don't really reflect what I actually do during the Christmas prep.
(BTW -- DS's Christmas tree is still standing. Undecorated, but still standing there with the snowman topper on it in the front window.)

I am going to make it a goal to do 45/15s also. Tomorrow I have a few phone calls I need to make re: roofer & the insurance (check arrived for almost half the estimated price of a new roof with shingles!) and I need to call College Town to check on A-day tickets for dbil.

Oh -- I loved the cherry pie recipe, and saved it. My daunt who passed away two years ago -- two years ago tomorrow, three weeks before dh -- used to make this for every family occasion. Some of us stayed close to the kitchen to make sure we would get a piece before it was all gone!

(((Twins))) I'm so sorry to hear about Ruby. She was a part of our little village too.

LadyM -- WOW -- I am so glad y'all weren't caught in the storm where the electric pole fell! I can hear the wind around here now and I am kinda glad my two hickory trees are gone. Some day, maybe the two maple trees DS and I set out will take their place -- I noticed new leaves earlier today -- but I'm glad it will take a while for them to be a problem.
I need to put together a go bag. All these years, and I've never done that.
My dmom was talking again about a whole house generator. She really wants to grow old in her own home, even if she has to hire sitters some day. Every time she sees that Generex (is that right?) commercial she says, "I really need to check on those."
No tornado watch here yet, but it (a watch) is expected soon.
Never mind -- my watch just buzzed -- watch issued till 3:00 a.m.
I certainly hope dbil and dsisil don't feel the need to seek shelter at ds' house.
