I spent a summer in Kenya with a friend from my Univ. Christian group in an area of the Rift Valley called Elang'ata Enterit, not far from Maasai Mara. We were working with a missionary family among the Maasai people! We went to Narok a couple times as it was the closest city/ town. We didn't make it to the Maasai Mara, though we were close by. And, of course, we spent a good bit of time hanging out with some of the Maasai in their village. :) I have fond memories of my time there. We did spend a week in Mombasa after our internship time was finished. I remember taking the train from Nairobi to a beach resort that was filled with German and French tourists. A sweet, older French woman there kind of took us under her wing. She wanted to keep us safe from the Germans. And of course, we flew in and out of Nairobi.

Well, that was a fun excursion down memory lane!! Now - back to real life.

I slept late today and got a good 9 hours. I needed it.

Yesterday was lovely - but also very, very busy and quite social - though all with people I love. 8 - jogged 5K. 10 - Church with dh and dd27. ~11:30-1:20 brunch here with dh, dd27, and Fable. 2-3:30ish coffee with dh and MZ. WF run. Simple dinner @ 6:45. Zoom call with ds, F, and baby I around 8:15 - 9ish. Baby I was SO happy! ❤️ And that was my day.

Today, I only have payroll on my calendar. I need to pre for my class, teach my class, and make progress on exam prep. I also need to reach out to some teachers with questions - LH and CM. Dinner is leftover salmon and Tuscan shrimp (from freezer). I'll make rice and roast a butternut squash to go with it. Other things: maybe a short jog, though I'm off to a very slow start this morning; not sure I'll get to that. 6pm - gardener K will be here to meet with dh.

Tomorrow, K and S2 had a lovely idea of going hiking at a nearby park for our KS2J get together. Then they added lunch together - also great! But now, they've also added craft time in the afternoon followed by a trip to a nearby town's downtown; it has just grown into an all day activity. They didn't ask me about this. I understand that they see each other at church and make plans together, but it would be nice if they checked with me as well instead of presenting it to me as a fait accompli. This kind of thing has happened before. I can't really spend all day out and about on a fun outing because I have payroll exam prep to do. I think I'll just join them for the bits that I can and then I'll go home early. They all have part time jobs too, but unlike mine, they can leave their work at their job when they leave.

We're proud of you, kitkat. That's a long walk! WTG to your dgkids too! I bet the pup was fine. I hope your hips feel better today.
L Ann, did you do something to your hip?
That SHEM is great - and so true, trissie! I've personally found it to be true in my own life. The busier I am, the more I can get done. LOL! --But I'm not necessarily happier. Have a good day at work.
I hope you can keep the bandage clean, Kitty. Now you and FFB have bandages that need attention.

kittykatt, I wish I lived the life that allows one to keep wounds clean! With the life I live, it's steri-strips and water-proof bandaids :-)
kitkat, sometimes you can get a million and one things done, and sometimes it's the straw that breaks the camels back, but you gotta try it to see which is the case!
did you overdo it over the weekend, L.Ann?
helia, you've travelled the whole world! But have you been to Russia? I have! :-) (for business twice in 2007, never for exploring and it won't likely happen again)

Home from work. Almost 5pm, so I gotta keep this posting thing quick!

Hi, all! I never did get my mojo back after wandering off, but today is a new day.

Thanks, L.Ann. I put a hold on Everyone Is Lying To You at the library. I hope that your hip feels better soon.

Your df dfBS is lucky to have you in her life, Gma.

Thank you for the interesting start, trissie.

Good morning, Kittykatt. I hope that your appointment goes well.

We have a frost warning tonight, kitkat. Here it's Victoria Day weekend that signals time to put in the gardens. I put out my plants for my vacation so that they could get watered by rain. It looks like the poinsettias and the kalanchoe made it. I'm not sure about anything else.

I am at the end of Page 1, so I will take Kittykatt's SHEM to heart and get started. :)

Monday
Put away dry dishes
Put potatoes on to cook
Cleaned up after dog
Gave Germane heart pill
Picked up her food
Ate potatoes in front of my more-in-sorrow-than-in-anger dog who can't have any yet, until an hour after her heart pill.

Done prepping for class. I need to be otd to payroll in 1:10.

trissie, no, I've never been to Russia! Dh has been there many times for his last job at a tech company. He managed a research and development group, and a section of the group was based in Russia - not sure exactly where. He had another group in India and one in Israel -- and of course, his US contingent as well. That was years ago and part of the reason why he traveled more than 1 week/ month while the kids were babies - tots. I've been on every habitable continent (not including Antarctica) except for --- S. America. That's kind of ironic. I do want to go see Costa Rica some day and perhaps Brazil and Mexico. We always have students from Brazil at our school and they are lovely people.
Oh no, L Ann. That sounds painful. Does walking aggravate it?

WTG on the million things trissie
Dogged isn't Victoria day this weekend?
helia thank you - What are you studying on Duolingo?
LAnn - arthritis is no fun (don't ask how I know) - movement is best for it, though. (And my heating pad)
Kittykatt keep the dressing dry/clean. I don't think the nurse would have loved to know about cat licks...

If I missed anyone, attribute it to my age? SHE-ness?

Finished eye appt. - still no urgency on cataracts, thankfully. There is another issue - that is not yet a problem - so I won't worry about it.
Picked up at drug store - took med
Took pup outside.
filed random receipts
found my debit card(!)
Talked to DD

Next:

water main floor plants

Those are very special memories, helia. I think that you have found the best compromise to attend the parts of the day that you can, and just explain that you can't take that much time off from work.

LOL@"actually did a lot of work" trissie. I guess that your coworkers were more cooperative than usual today?

Russia would be a very interesting trip, trissie.

Those achy days can be so limiting, L.Ann.

Yes, kitkat, Victoria Day is a week from today. I remember how crazy Victoria Day weekend is for garden centres from my days at Home Depot.
I'm glad that there is no rush on the cataracts. Sight can be vulnerable as we age.

Old habits die hard, L.Ann.

Monday
Put away dry dishes
Put away drying rack
Put potatoes on to cook
Cleaned up after dog
Gave Germane heart pill
Picked up her food
Ran around a lot but with no apparent progress to show for it.
Showered/washed hair
Spot cleaned the floor
Topped up toilet paper
Put some fish on to cook for Germane. I let the remainder of the kilo that I bought in Quebec thaw slowly in a package of Germane’s pee pads on the trip home, so now I have to get it cooked.
