I just read your post, trissie... That is more than a handful. The situation is bad enough - not having SIL's cooperation, agreement, is a disaster waiting to happen. (and, I'm saying this b/c I dealt with dementia, unfortunately...)

LAnn good morning - you posted while I was typing this:)

I never got back here yesterday as my plans were changed for me:
I was supposed to have DGD for an hour - I had her until I needed to leave ... 3,5 hours. (Which was lovely: we both enjoyed the time on the porch and in the backyard, but I got NOTHING done)
Then, we had fam. plans to go to a movie, after 6. That got bumped up to 4.... So we went. All productive time was over by the time I got back: took my pup for her second walk , made dinner and that was it. It was a good day - just not what I had planned.

Since DGD is staying with me starting tomorrow morning, today is the day to get things done.
I will also have farmers market, yoga class today with the inevitable pup walk(s).
I'd better get started.

Morning all. That was a productive garden time kittykat. I bet it looks beautiful as ever. What's blooming now?

Trissie oh my goodness I can so relate. How far along is mil. Still able to do much on her own? I'm so thankful my sister and I agree. Only dad is still in charge . It's stabilized a bit now mom is in care but the calls for what do I do still come. Dad wants to still be in control and doesn't take our advice well. And for all we know he could go before her. Mom is almost bed bound or wheelchair. Sometimes they have to use a lift cause she can't figure out which muscles to use.. she's struggling a lot with swallowing already too. I'm so thankful for nurse care. Except I wish we could hurry along the wait for the longterm care home.

I got out of the trip this weekend and have smoothed over the other side of the family. My sister explained it being too much for me atm and they understand. She told dad about the event last night. He has capabilities to get there but probably doesn't want to anyway. And that aunt doesn't even want him there. Exactly why I don't want to be there. I haven't talked to dad yet. We'll see what I hear from him. It's his problem and I just can't figure out why they both are so difficult.

Anyway I'm going on with my life. Do what I want to do. Garden prep. Greenhouse for plants. Some inside whb . Painting just cause? Dh has mowing and a few other outdoor tasks I think. Music prep for tomorrow. And maybe connect with ds and ddil and dgs?

Qt properly first. I dunno but my body aches enough it's going to be soak and such. Then I will post a list.

I knew you would understand, as dealing with relatives with dementia is kinda a joint experience in this thread... and I have been paying attention and I know SIL is being totally unrealistic. But I also know that as stubborn as my husband is, he is also a "creature of duty" (oh I do love Downton Abbey) and I do love him for that.

lauralind, DMIL suffers from a multitude of issues. The dementia thing is not yet that profound (there's almost no short term memory left, but she will eat food even when it's out of sight (pull out a plate out of the fridge, make a simple sandwich), will take meds if somebody readies them for her in the dispenser, shower etc. But she's rapidly losing sight, can't pick up anything from the floor due to chronic back issues, and hasn't left the apartment unacompanied for over 2 years. And then there's the heart problems. All in all, she is NOT fit for independent living.

Frenchie, glad you had a good visit! And fruit for dessert is very French and very healthy!
kittykatt, yes, my 3 season planting book is designed so that you keep replacing things as they are harvested. Like, for example - you start with radishes and salads which can be sown in February/March and harvested in May. Mid-May, you plant tomatoes and basil, because they can only go out after the frost season is over. And in September/October, after you get rid of the tomato plants, you sow spinach and cornsalad, because both winterize well.

Late afternoon already. Did two rides out - one to my favourite garden store before lunch, and one to pick up DBD from train station and stop at a different garden store where I get flowers for the windowsill boxes. I really do like visiting garden stores

I'm trying to figure out where to start. I don't know what happened. Maybe weird dreams that are almost gone from memory .. we were up late as ds27 came for a shower and didn't leave till a bit after 10. I was awake before 5 again.. had thought perchance we could sleep in some..

Dh is still watching stuff i his office. Ds16 is still sleeping. I don't have crochet atm cause I think I need a good mental awake time to back up a few stitches and examine how it went together. Then maybe I can figure it out. I guess just routines and start something for breakfast. Maybe ds will smell bacon and get up

You really make me want to pull out some crafting, lauralind! and L.Ann makes me want to curl on the sofa with a book. unfortunately, helia does not make me want to go running, and I'd say that's a pity, but given that I am not really likely to do cratfs or read a book, I guess it doesn't matter anyway
helia, I do remember the lenghts you had to go to care for you mother with your brother's attitude! We can't chose our siblings, and it does seem that the responsible hard working ones are generally paired with the irresponsible lazy bums!

Thank you for starting us off, trissie. How cool to have two national parks on either side of the border. I think that animals do better with bigger protected areas.

It's too early in the season for flowers, Kittykatt. I only saw two dandelions, which surprised me, as I don't think that it's too early for them. What really confused me was that in the field of clover, I could smell the sweet clover flowers but there were no blooms. It was green everywhere, there was one duck in the pond and the walk was worth the need to put my feet up after.
I'm guessing that MJ has come and gone and that your patio door has a beautiful new pane.
Woo hoo on getting your garden's spring cleaning done in one go.

I'm glad that you had a good visit with your dsister and her dfamily, FrenchFly. The running mill sounds like a great find.

trissie, I don't know anything about the Czech legal system, and I'm fuzzy about the Canadian one, but I believe that your SIL's choices would eventually lead to a charge of failure to provide the necessities of life under our criminal code. Would it be practical for your DH to either apply for power of attorney or to have your MIL declared incompetent so that she would become a ward of the court?

(((L.Ann and dmother))) That must have been so hard for your dmother and your dfamily. Thank goodness they prepared for it so that you weren't trying to provide that care by yourself.

Morning Dogged! I am trying to decide if I want to take a trip to the farm where the poppy fields are in full bloom. Only 4 Trissie. Three fake boxwood of some sort and the camellia bush. We’ll see if I get inspired to tackle it this weekend. Motivation is hard to come by!!!

I went down a rabbit hole on Ali Express's sight, looking at artificial greenery for my balcony. This spring I have concluded that I want to keep the real plants inside the apartment where I can reach them to water them on bad days as well as the good ones. From the fourth floor, artificial leaves will look fine and I will feel that my balcony is a bit dressed up. I have too much in the cart and still need to make some decisions.

Sounds like yesterday was a well-deserved day off, kitkat. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

Lauralind, you are very wise to step aside and let the feuding parties feud without you. You have enough on your plate without that.
Sorry about the short night. That always leaves me fuzzy headed the next day.

trissie, your book sounds like a great thing for a gardener to stay on top of things and benefit from the season.

I'm glad that you got to spend some time in the garden store. I love wandering around them too.

Cleaned up after dog
Saw Germane using her pee pad. Went over to praise her.
Grabbed her as she came off of the pee pad and washed her feet thoroughly. Don’t ask.
Cleaned up the area in front of the pee pads.
Picked up three of the pee pads, leaving only one that was face down on the floor.
Came back from the garbage to find Germane on that one face-down pee pad, peeing on the plastic backing
Managed to dump a clean pee pad on top of it before it ran off onto the floor
Picked up the pee pads
Cleaned area around pee pads
Washed the floor
Germane came out and walked everywhere that the floor had been washed.
Germane had no pee pads available, but did not pee on the washed floor. Big win!
