Arkansas Firm Recalls Meat & Poultry Products Produced Without USDA Inspectionby US Food Safety Corporation on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 12:54pm
On Thursday, February 24, the US Dept. of Agriculture, announced that Petit Jean Farm of Morrilton, Ark.
is recalling an “undetermined” amount of various meat and poultry products. The reason – these items were
produced without the “benefit” of federal inspection. The why’s and where for’s make this an interesting case.
The amount of product is undetermined? They have no daily production records as to what they produced? How long
have they been violating federal laws? If a consumer had not claimed an illness, how much longer could this
company have slid through?
Why did they use another company’s USDA establishment stamp on their product?
They knew that their product must bear the USDA stamp. Did they forget that this also required an inspector?
Our federal government classifies this as a Class 1 Recall, with a health risk level of high. We can only hope
that the USDA has enough budget money to pursue this to the proper end and bring any violator to justice.
–Bruce Rubin, CEO, US Food Safety Corporation
