Afraid I am getting on my soap box but this is a subject that is very important to me. Nancy brought up that Paula Deen might be Type 2 diabetic. Some of the news stories on the web have been saying that it is because of her diet and her rich recipes.
I feel that all Type 2s, regardless of the trigger, have the potential to become Type 2 already in their DNA. Even if they were thin, there might still be something that will trigger it. I know so many "skinny" Type 2s who were never fat. If obesity causes Type 2, then why aren't more overweight people diabetic?
The difference between Type 1 and Type 2 is insulin. Type 1: Pancreas cannot manufacture insulin. Type 2: Insulin is manufactured but the body can't use it.
Something in our lives (probably some way our bodies handle stress) triggers our body to quit using the insulin. In fact, some Type 2's pancreas over manufacture insulin and their body still can't use it.
We all have to watch what we eat - but the food we ate in the past does not cause diabetes. Our DNA does.

Well said, MT. Case in point, if it were simply being overweight dd should have been type 2 a long time ago. She's obviously inherited her genes from her dad on many fronts. Though she's now on the road to losing weight (her thyroid was off & is now taking meds for that & her metabolism has upped, plus she's eating more carefully). But her bs in her blood work is always excellent. On the other hand DS-R who is quite active and fairly trim is borderline and has to 'watch it'. But he also suffered a lot of stress. #1 son is diabetic, DS-A is definitely overweight but no sign of diabetes as yet. And me -yeah I'm type 2, but seem to be doing a whole lot better since I added Vitamin D to my supplements. It's been about 3 months of this now. That's the only thing I can attribute the change to -though I do try to be careful with what I eat.

Going to fold a load of laundry and hit the sack. Have to get up early to take dh to catch a ride for his salt-water fishing trip. Think now we don't have to leave here until 5:30am -was given a 1/2 hour reprieve.
Want to get everything ready so we can just grab it in the morning.

Lots of activity here this evening - I had laundry going, and dd13 had her science project and tri-fold taking up the whole dining area. HRH learning about the new camera.
Hope everyone is having a restful weekend. (Thinking of Mr. Harmony! Rest!)

Re: Honey-Do, Job Jar and Delegating Saturday
Thank you Harriet, DH is back in bed! What ever happened about DD's science project and the grouchy teacher?
Paula D. has been in the news a lot. Did you see her on Dr. Oz? I will go with the middle of the road on the diet/dna debate. I think it is sometimes one or the other, or sometimes a combination. Otherwise, why would some people who are obese be able to get off their diabetes medicines when they reduce their weight and get in shape?
We have some in our family history, that fact alone keeps me trying to do the right thing. I wish I was more successful in that.
I got all the floors mopped.
DH and I went out to customer's with statement. We stopped at another jobsite to see what was done and talk with owner. Both times DH stayed in the car. Because he was sitting, with leg stretched out as straight as possible but not entirely, it took a while before he could stand with it totally straight. It is pretty stiff right now.
He got up once more, just a doz. steps to the kitchen and then back to bed. I am hoping drs. are not closed Monday because of the holiday.
Dinner / dishes done.
I went to log the water payment we got for the rental, and ended up updating spreadsheet and copying stuff, and putting receipt copies all together to file away, so now that bunch is ready for CPA. I got a bank interest payment receipt today. I am waiting for 2 more records, one from the mortgage (interest) and church donations, then my part of doing our taxes is all done.
Cold here. We got lucky, it's not supposed to freeze. If it freezes while DH is like this I'll have to do all the covering by myself.
