I am feeling guilty because I scheduled a pet sitter to come to my house tonight for the initial 'get acquainted' type visit, then found someone else significantly cheaper. So I cancelled. I was too hasty setting it up, my own fault, but I hate to do this to someone. However, the difference for the time will be about $90, not insignificant. My dentist changed my appointment time on me, but didn't have my new number. Fortunately, XDH got the message in time and told me.

Kathryn, do you need to address your church friend's problems with whatever work she's doing at the other church so she doesn't transfer those problems into your church if she switches?

Actually, the switch solves that issue - the corresponding position is well handled in my church so she could 'just' attend church and not feel she had to do that role. If she remained at her church, the role would probably remain unfilled. Actually, her leaving leaves the other church free to fill the role however they want to without having to worry about hurting her feelings. So maybe her leaving is not as bad as I think it is.

This is not to say the role isn't important. It is key to the life of the church but not enough people at that church care enough to make the commitment to supporting this role. This person can't do the role she is expected to do (the skill set isn't there and she never managed to 'grow' into the role as I hoped she might) but even if she was brilliant at it, the congregation wouldn't lift a finger to help her.

They want things to magically appear without any effort on their part. For example: they get insulted if the minister doesn't socialize with them but then they don't have a weekly fellowship hour so there isn't a chance for regular socializing. If the minister holds a party at her home, they will come, but they don't create a welcoming environment without a lot of prompting. It is a weird dynamic but it means our smaller church (we are half the size of their church) supplies all the Chairs, but one, to the joint committees. They feel like a church, we feel like a church family. At first I though that evaluation was my prejudice but then my former minister pointed it out to me. And my current minister has commented on it too.

Ironically, they run the pastoral care committee because they are excellent at that. And they run the women's group and a crafting group that does prayer shawl ministry. Plus they provide bodies for anything we'll put on. They will attend, they just don't organize. They help us out a lot, including supplying baking for any event we hold. It is a very weird dynamic, as if we were one church that was split with the organizers going one way and the attendees going another.

So all this history/dynamic is swirling around in my head when I'm trying to talk to this person who wants to change churches. I'm not really telling her what to do, I just have to keep asking questions so she can work things through in her mind.

The annual report is proceeding. I'm down to just having to go over my church's reports and since our church is so small, that adds up to four reports.

Waving hi to all. We've had 4 inches of rain in the last 2 days, so wishing for a little sunshine today. I've got a long list for the day, but going to focus on the top 3 items to feel successful at the end of the day.

I'm eating a snack while the green beans are steaming. Then, I'll leave to pick up dd13.

Forgot to say that we had a thunderstorm last night! I was confused about the booming sound in the middle of the night, until I saw the lightning. We don't usually get thunderstorms here in January. Even dd16 asked this afternoon what that loud bang was last night. And then it rained off and on today, so the snow is virtually gone.

Off to fetch dd13, and then finish the meal.

Hello, villagers ~

I've been working instead of posting. That's supposed to be a good thing, right? Except I've reached the point where I feel like I'm spinning my wheels because I'm seeing no visible progress. I know in my head that I'm accomplishing things, but my eyes don't see the evidence.

Let's see, Thursday I ran errands because I knew I'd be snowed in Friday. Tried to make DPC to neighbor about snow removal, but his home phone has been disconnected. He doesn't hire the guy to clear snow, it's a buddy who does it as a favor. I haven't been able to catch the neighbor at home. My plan, if I can ever figure out how to reach him, is to ask for his help to "remind" his buddy "who I'm sure just forgot."

Friday was Apron Day, with a nice long nap in the middle. Sometimes it's ok to be snowbound. DH said he did not have much trouble getting to or from work, mostly because he wasn't trying to get anywhere in a big hurry. His car also handles deep snow much better than mine because it's built a little bit higher off the ground.

By mid-morning on Saturday DH had done a bunch of shoveling so we were able to get out with his car and go to lunch at the diner. I fully intended to shovel out my driveway but kept working on stuff inside and suddenly the sun was down, so I figured I'd shovel in the morning. Sometime in the evening, DH got a burst of energy and he went out and shoveled in the "dark," which between the street lights and all of the snow was not dark at all.

Therefore, Sunday we were able to go out for a sub for lunch in DH's car, and then I fired up my car and went to my sister's for the rest of the day. Slippery roads both ways reinforced my plan to not go out today.

I've pulled out my card box and was surprised at how many cards can be immediately filed in the "completed" section. Guess I'm not being as much of a sloth as I feel. Must go flip laundry and then get back to writing articles for the sewing group newsletter.

Out of curiosity, where is the "completed" section of your cardfile? Is it just the back of the box? That is where mine are now, though I wondered if I should file a a weekly for a specific day for that day for the following week. For example, menu plan and groc. list is a MOnday card for me. When it is complete, I could just file it under the next Monday. But then I can't include it in my stash of completed weekly cards.
