Thursday's Thirst for Knowledge

I had lunch with a friend. She thinks XDH is dating one of our friends, who divorced her husband one month after ours became final. She named some other people who think they are dating too. The trouble is that all of XDH and my friends are mutual and they all are friends with this other friend (or maybe she is not my friend, I don't know). Even one of the 10 year olds in our social circle has noticed the two of them and said they might get married. Not sure how I feel, dissappointed in them, I guess.

Elizabeth: A new neighbor guy had asked his wife for a divorce last fall; had an affair with one of my friends while the wife was gone doing the snowbird thing; she came back and said some thing about it ask me a few questions wow that was uncomfortable but not unexpected. I was not quite sure what to say but she brought the subject up first. Another neighbor had answered her questions as best she could so I was sort of relieved. Her questions were mostly rhetorical so I did not really have to answer. Now the guy has left for the hills, she appears to be gone, said they were going to put the house up for sale before this blew up.

We are back from a walk around the loop dgd wanted to go with out the stroller today. We had to put on jackets as it's cooler today.

I am always impressed by those of you taking care of your parents, like OK and Harriet. Twins and lucylee too - and others I'm sure I'm forgetting. I don't know how that will play out for me as my parents age since we are so far from them. They've been pretty healthy and independent, between the two of them, so far. Unfortunately, the distance also means my kids never got to know their grandparents - either set. Just like I never got to know either set of my grandparents well, also b/c of distance. I'd love to break this pattern with our own future (we hope!) grandchildren. We'll see. . . . .

I ran some errands, post office to put something in the mail that needed to be in today. (Supposedly.) And then the grocery store. I should be set for the weekend.

It looks like ds is going to be able to have another summer internship with the software company he worked for last summer! That is nice for him, good money for his age and education. I think his attending UMich in the fall had a lot to do with it; they weren't sure about investing in someone who was going to leave town in the fall. They may want him to continue part time through the school year, something he'll have to think about. . . . .

Now, it is too late for a jog. I'm out of synch with dh anyway; he is going tomorrow. (We don't jog 2 days in a row.) Now I can go with him tomorrow!

I think I'll tackle some weeds and then throw together a salad to share tonight.

Helia - nice to see you posting today! Ha, ha - I thought I read your last line that you were going to pull weeds and throw them in the salad! That would have been a fun salad to serve - see if they noticed!

Sorry to hear your news Elizabeth. I think you have mentioned this "friend" before, and your suspicions of the relationship.
Harriet - sounds like a nice Mother's Day visit from DS and family. Thanks for asking about my DS20 the other day. His semester is almost over - 2 more weeks - so we'll see what grades he gets. Considering a summer class to keep up, he only has 12 units for the year. He loves his Art classes and does well, it's his other subjects that he has failed or dropped. Not sure where this is taking him, but he's young and he'll figure it out.

Off to the adventures.

Harriet - the gift/card/visit from DS sounds perfect!

We have a couple of visitor just arrived. A paint horse and filly will be staying with us this summer. Their owner are transferring all the stock back to NDakota for the summer and didn't have room on the trailer for them.

Yes, home from a dr appt with dmom - this is general practitioner (actually a temple friend of dh and me) who is wonderful. She wants mother to get out of the house for adult day car instead of sitting home in front of the TV all day; she really takes a look at everything, not just blood work and test results. But there's another ball for me to juggle, too.

I think I first heard Helia with the expression "bandwidth" to describe all the different pulls and tugs that we have on our sanity. I think I've grown more comfortable saying that I don't have the bandwidth to take that on - at work specifically, I was asked to take on a weekly project that could go on a very long time (client needs to hire someone very strong in accounting and I would fill in until then.) I was able to comfortably say no - between being temple president and moving this summer I'm full to the brim.

I don't have to get groceries for temple after all today - secretary inventoried refrigerator and only needed eggs for Torah study on Sat a.m. so that's a relief. And I got points for volunteering!

I'd like to watch AI at 8 p.m. so I need to get rolling.....
-start up the grill for burgers for me and ds
-bring in the glass hurricane I bought at thrift store last night and soak the glass
-find temple notecards so I can write condolence notes
-find info to set up appt to pick out light fixtures for new house
-feed and water the poor, long suffering ddogs.

Finished with that round; ended up next door visiting with dneighbor and ds came out too to say hello. Burgers are on the grill, need to go turn them!

Hi sherinjoy ~ If you take a look at Clara's Kitchen at a bookstore, she talks about growing up in the 1930s and picking "weeds" like dandelion and burdock to cook them for family meals. Maybe Helia can make some of those vintage recipes.

Harriet ~ Your daisy plant sounds pretty. Maybe I can find potted flowers for DM & DMIL and give them with strict instructions to treat them as if they are cut flowers -- only keep them alive as long as they bloom, then toss them out. (Both moms sometimes think of plants as burdens and feel stress if they don't have room to keep them forever.)

I am still running anti-virus and spyware program that is taking forever. I think I will go home and get something to eat. The repair people for the swamp cooler are now coming Wednesday instead of tomorrow. I have a church meeting at 8:00 with the mission team. I hope I don't have a case of the mopes brought about by the conversation at lunch today.
