A Lick and a Promise Wednesday

So we do museums and antique stores (mostly looking). It is really sad to see stuff that I used as a young bride in museums.

When a vacuum exactly like ours showed up at a museum, dd firmly stated that it was time for me to buy another vacuum! (In all fairness, it was our 'backup' vacuum and I only used it in the basement. But dd lived in the basement so when she had to clean down there, that was the vacuum she used.)

I've caught up on my devotions (I was almost a week behind.)

The minister should be here in a few minutes to drop something off and pick something up. Dh commented yesterday that he saw I bought myself another Bible and I was able to say that I hadn't, the church had, for a new member this Sunday. I, personally think we should be buying study bibles instead of regular bibles because they explain what we are reading, or at least bits and pieces of it. We have at least 15 bibles in the house, not including the ones on my computer. And I have at least 5 different translations. My personal favourite translation is still the Jerusalem Bible but my study bibles are both NIV and I love my latest study bible's notes the best, although I don't really like the NIV translation that much.

Last night I went through my 'work' library in order to figure out which books I should be trying to get at the resource centre sale this weekend (and to see if I had any I was ready to donate to the sale.) I have a list to type up but if I don't get even 20% of the list, I'll still be happy with my library.

lucylee!!!! This is, like, HUGE. Nobody can ever prove this to us but your dh just might. Dd13 is desperately in need of any help for this, and we can't find definitive answers on the net, HOWEVER actually knowing someone who had found even some proof that it works is worth... two in the bush or something. No time to make much sense! BBL Wait - ask him how many he takes, k? and one mg I guess? garlic is good for blood pressure btw POOF

I was gone extra-long because I forgot my login info. It's all fixed though.

So, the second load of laundry is in the washer. I washed a few pots and pans. I tidied up the kitchen a bit.

I haven't done the dusting or dust-mopping yet, though. Those are jobs I tend to put off.

I got a call from DD10 from XDH's family gathering in Montana. XMIL or XFIL must have reminded her because XDH was off fishing according to her. She is having a good time but misses me and the dog, hopefully in that order! I am going to treat myself to Olive Garden for my birthday lunch. Don't know what I am going to do for dinner, I have a meeting to go to after work. I may just do cereal at home afterward, OG fills me up pretty well and I am not likely to be hungry at usual dinner time. I've got to remember to water XDH's dog after the meeting. I keep writing that here because I have a fear that I will forget and telling people about it helps cement it in my mind. VBS is going on for two more days, but I will not be there for the last two.

The minister has come and gone so I can join dh in the back yard now. He's listening to the ball game online - the computer is on the floor of our bathroom and he has a long earphone cord hanging down to his hidden spot in the yard.

I've had cheese and crackers for lunch but need some veggies and some fruit. Maybe a milk as well.

Harriet - I will second that Garlic proof against mosquitos. My DMil would get bitten 10x any of us and swell up horribly. Her Dr. recommended Garlic tablets, I don't know the dosage. She started taking them immediately. About 6 weeks later she went to North Carolina in the summer - did not get bitten once! And her family, including my DH, all got bitten. So...there is proof from real life experience. Hope your DD is healing today.

Hi again. I thought I'd lost my mind when I got here the 2nd time and saw those extra posts...that I'd not seen when I was here the first time. Glad to read someone had merged today's threads and I wasn't totally brain dead.

I feel brain dead. I've been at this paperwork - one file - since 8:00 in the morning. DH just tells me I highlighted the wrong spot on a site plan and I have someone's swale in the middle of the street . Well I'm just not going to worry about it.

Lilac, holding onto successful vibes for your closing. Odd about the planters. Not good if she took them. It sounds like your DD is just not content with her life, with her moving around so much.

Picturing LO with his earphones on. Oh, MPB is Mom & Pop Business. I sorta have one of those too.

The house is a sea of papers. I did manage to get 8 pages compiled, composed, cut/pasted, scanned into 1 file and emailed off to 2 people. Now I must gather up all the loose ones all over and organize I am so stressed from all this I just want to nap.

About DH retiring, I just don't know how that'll work out. He'll only retire when he's no longer able to physically work...and that'll mean he can't do much in the way of projects, etc. I'm afraid he will be unhappy. He hates paperwork, so something else seems not likely. Me, I'll volunteer more at church, sew, read more, I have lots of things I'd like to do and I'll be perfectly happy. I'll go see the grandkids more if we can afford to travel. Oh, I have high hopes for my retirement. His, not so much. You are lucky, Cowinkie, that your DH found something he likes for himself. So many men don't.

By the way, Harriet, we used to give our dogs brewers yeast to keep the fleas away. I wonder if that might keep mosquitoes away too?

Happy Birthday Elizabeth!!!

YIPPPPEEEEE! LO passed his hearing test with no problems! It was interesting to watch how they test little ones ears/hearing. They took pictures of the inside of his ears, then did digital measurements with a probe. Both of those test instantly showed results on the computer screen. Then they took LO (and me) into a sound proof booth about 8'x8' with LO sitting in a chair in the middle of the room. The walls of the booth had several different stuffed animals on shelves all around the booth, some of the animals were up high, and others down low. They watched LO through a window as they started activating sounds from the stuffed animals....he loved it! BIG smiles and laughter as the various animals clapped, sang, etc one at a time. His eyes would light up and his head would turn toward this animal sound here....that animal sound up there...over there....down there, etc They could watch LO response and how he turned his head toward the various sounds to prove he could hear the range, volume, etc. They get big KUDO's from me for making it so much fun! If only all medical type testing could be this fun.

Now I'm unsure about LO speech. The audiologist was shocked that LO was only 3 years old because of his size. He said he has a 3 year old and then paused and asked us again for clarification - what is LO birth date? When we answered, he shook his head and said he thinks people expects LO to talk better because he is the size of a typical 6 year old. That makes 2 medical people who have told us the same thing in the past month. People tend to expect a child of that size to not talk like a toddler. Hum.....I don't want to ignore it if he does have a problem, but I also don't want to do unnecessary trips to speech pathologists. I think I'll wait until LO doctor has time to receive the results from today tests and then visit with him about recommendations for next step (if anything is needed).

Hello dear ladies,

Haven't had a chance to cuop.

It is HOT here.

Yesterday my allergies seemed to act up to the point where it bothered my eyes quite a lot. Took some allergy meds, and sat in the recliner watching "The Waltons" and "Dr Quinn" for awhile.

Lots of drama going on today between DH and Dsons. Dson 34 texted some comments to DH which led to him being upset. I don't think texting is appropriate way to handle conflict. DH kept reading it over and over and staying upset. Ended up he drove over to Dson's home for a discussion and returned in a better mood so it looks like they worked it out.
Got to get ready for work and head in.
