Ivy: you'll see 'birthing day' mentioned here often when it is a child's birthday as it recognizes the day is special to the mother as well as to the child. My 'baby', ds24's birthday was a week ago Wednesday so you'll see best wishes to me for that.
But today is one of those bittersweet days for Dee and she's aware and grieving appropriately by cutting herself some slack and recognizing the feelings but not wallowing in them. BTW Shelley was a grown woman with a family of her own. I find there are a lot of dates that throw me for a loop, sometimes I don't realize why I'm having a bad day until I note the date and realize it is the birthday of someone I love who has passed. Funnily enough, I tend to be affected more on birthdays than their passing dates, which I suppose shows that I'm remembering their life and not their death.
I'm almost ready for my nap now. Ds phoned. He had a doctor's appointment to clear him for scuba lessons and since his family doctor is still technically at the same practice I go to (but better doctor), it meant he was out here anyway so dropped in for an early lunch before driving back to the city. I had forgotten to tell him he didn't have to move in for the week tomorrow so we got that covered. He'll call twice a day and if I don't need him, he can stay in the city and if I do need him, he'll sleep here. It isn't as if he'll be around much, he has to be to work for 7:30 and then has things on Mon, Tuesday and Wednesday, so really he'd only be here overnight and I sleep fine at night. But dh feels better that he'll be on call for me.
I've got some of the mail processed and sorted through grocery flyers. Kitchen is a mess (dh came back home and cooked up a lunch for himself as well.) Before ds arrived, I spent 45 minutes repotting some orchids and bringing the ones that summered outside back inside. And cleaning up the mess of soil and bark in the laundry room. So I got work in but nothing I can cross off any written list.
Since it seems early for my nap (I've only been up for 3.5 hours) I'm going to have dh take me for a walk around the block.
