Hmmmm, never thought to ask if it had chicken, scattered. Know she said it was corn & bacon chowder. I was thinking of chicken as a culprit, if she cut up things on the same board as chicken, just never thought about it being in the soup, Though I don't know why -I put chicken in mine too. Strange part was she gave some to her family who did not get sick. Yet that was the only common denominator of everyone who was at the 'treat' from the parents' organization. Will have to ask her.

Scattered: you only have 2 junk drawers? I'm impressed! And yes, it still counts as being side-tracked.

I don't recall what distracted me this morning but I've finally finished the presentation for tomorrow. Nothing else done except laundry (one load is just finishing up, another is just starting.)

Dh has just decided that he won't be going to church tomorrow so let the musician know (he was singing a duet with her for the anthem.) I'll need to get there early to set up the screen and projector for my presentation.

Just realized that I didn't have a nap today. No wonder, now that I've stopped writing, my body suddenly feels like it was hit by a truck. I guess I'd better lie down for a bit.

Lying down now. My bed smells like Vicks. Good thing I don't mind - yesterday was fresh sheets day so it will be like this for a week!

This morning was fun time with the boys together. We picked up lunch and ate at a new playground/park which was a double pleasure for LO.

I took a 2 hour nap and woke up with a stomach ache and chilling. I'm sipping hot coffee with the hope it will warm up my insides (is 71 degrees in house). I took my temp and it is normal so I'm going to remain hopeful this isn't the beginnings of the stomach virus I have been exposed to for the past 9 days.

DD txt saying she was going to call LO this evening. I haven't told LO since she frequently doesn't follow through. If she does call, this will be the first time since the 1 hour IRL meeting with her 3 weeks ago.


DGS6 class was on GMA. DSon/DDIL filmed the "event" in the background and sent me several videos. I'm trying to watch the videos of it but our internet connection with skydrive is very slooooowwww. I just watch a few seconds of DGD1 wearing a post-it note on her mouth. LOL! It kept falling off her lips and she would immediately put it back on. I'm guessing the post-it note was their way of reminding her to be quiet while GMA cameras were filming. I'm having serious Nana withdraws!! I need to see these 2 darlings!!

Kathryn - Sleep tight

I was scrubbing the toilet when DS13 came running up saying that there was something wrong with DCat3 (my indoor/outdoor cat) I had him bring him up to me and yep the whole left lower side of his jaw is swollen!!! I looked in his mouth (very touchy difficult task) but didn't see any obvious dental abscess. I don't see any wound, have no idea what is wrong. I do not have the money for a Vet. He is still eating and drinking. I hate keeping him inside because he pees on stuff... DS13 is setting up the dog crate in the spare room and we will set him up in that for the night. I just don't think that being outside in the cold would be good for him. Talked to BFF but she is not a cat person. Trying to get a hold of DP/BFF who does Cat Leukemia rescue hopefully she will have some ideas.

Spent 30 minutes scrubbing the toilet... scrubbed it with several products and several combinations of scrubbies, sponge, and toothbrush. Then I put in the toilet cleaner (w/ bleach) and scrubbed it again w/ toilet brush. I am also in the process of combining half empty bottles of soap. Next will be the tub... YUCK!

HRH was also pondering the question of how corn chowder becomes the culprit, Dee, but said remember, even water can make a group of people sick if there is certain bacteria in the water, so in a way anything can be a culprit. But corn chowder seemed low on the culprit list, still. Then I read to the part where you said, "corn and bacon chowder" and quoted that to him. He said, "Bacon? Ding, ding, ding, ding... ... we haaaave a winner." He said you'd have to know a little bit about the recipe and how it was cooked (for instance, was the bacon expected to cook within the liquid or had it been thoroughly cooked before use), but that's very probably it. He says there could have been a problem in a meat case at a grocery, too, so not necessarily the "fault" of a cook. Unfortunate all around! Everyone feel better!

scattered, if it was sudden it makes me think of a snake or insect/bee (well, now I see you keep her inside so probably not). Is the kitty in pain? So sorry this happened, glad your ds13 was observant. Good job on the toilet. I worked on our master one today and can see I am to the pumice stone point with it again. Every few months I have to just break over and use the pumice stone some.

helia, glad Lily had a good outcome today. I guess you already have your company there. You are a brave woman with that kind of goings-on in the house and remaining calm!

BookSaver, that's great to have such a convenient day in town. So seldom happens that way! Kitchen timer - lol. I have done my time there, too - wonder how many dishes we've washed? Good idea on water consumption.

Dstepson came to see us today. We had chicken and biscuits for lunch. He helped me fix Sammie's house up for the winter with her heating pad underneath her mat. He fixed the toilet at my parents' house that we have just been babying along. HRH had already bought the parts but wanted dstepson with him to accomplish it since it's older and a little different from most. Also he and HRH had some time alone to hang out and talk, which is good for both of them.

Harriet - I googled and that was what the sites all said, not a bee or snake though as it is to cold here for either. Probably got in a fight with another cat. Called and talked to DP/BFF and she agreed w/ everything I am doing but suggested giving him L-Lysine which boosts their immune system.

Got the tub scrubbed and jerry rigged the crate together (can't find the holding rods), flipped B&E, and DS13 made dinner (repeat of pork Parmesan). My neck and shoulder hurts so I am sitting here with my neck pillow. DP/BFF & BFF/DH are taking me to lunch tomorrow, so I asked her to call me on her way into to do payroll, that way I can work on my essay.

Kathryn ~ The good luck with the car yesterday was to balance out the nightmare from July when I had to have all the brakes rebuilt. That service place (which I'd used for years) kept the car several days due to a series of mishaps, and we paid over $2,000. Then shortly afterward I had a flat and had to buy a pair of tires, where that shop showed that the front end was quite a bit out of alignment, probably due to the 1st shop hammering to dislodge the rusted brakes. So that was another $300. I knew the parking/emergency brake cable was broken, but the 1st place had told me $500 and 3 hours, the second place said $250, and we had other non-car expenses with higher priority. This week seemed to be the first right combination of available time and cash on hand.

Harriet ~ Glad HRH and son were able to hang out together today.

Sorry, y'all, I know I had other responses to people but can't remember them now.

I got quite a bit of work done this morning on the newsletter. Then I hit a wall and had to go take a nap. I thought I would sleep an hour, and was surprised when I woke up and it was 3 1/2 hours later. I guess I was tired, eh?

DH and I spent about an hour outside tossing stuff from the garage and shed. He moved out the big *thing* that's been in my way forever -- a riding mower that works but he doesn't like it. I couldn't convince him to get rid of it altogether, but at least it's no longer taking up prime real estate in the covered shed. Everything else in there is small enough that I can deal with it myself.

We have a small pile of burnables for tomorrow. (We're not used to the short days yet and ran out of light.) In the morning I can break down some more cardboard boxes from the house to add to the burn pile.

I filled the big rolling trash bin to the point that all I have to do on Wednesday is add the bag from the house.

Meals today have been what my friend S calls "must-go's" from the refrigerator. Apple & cheese quesadilla for breakfast. Big lettuce salad with turkey, tomatoes and yellow pepper for lunch with pretzels. Supper is almost ready, leftover chili.

Started the laundry late, so 1st load is still in the dryer and 2nd load in the washer. Apparently I've been doing laundry on auto-pilot, though, because we won't have another full load until I change sheets tomorrow. Love those 3D routines!

After supper I'll get back to writing the tricky article. Found out that the newsletter editor is away at a sewing retreat this weekend so I doubt that she cares whether I send any more stuff before Monday, but I want to get it off my desk.

Books - wow busy day, congrats on all you accomplished.

Wanted to add an extra TaDa, got DS13's applications to the specialty centers filled and printed. He is applying to the Governors School for International Studies, The International Baccalaureate Program, and the Humanities Center. My 1st choice would be the I.B. program because it is at our Home High School and would not cause any transportation problems... not sure what his 1st choice is, guess we will have to wait to see where he is accepted.

Good Evening, Villagers!

The storm went away, but it DID prompt DH to go buy 2 cans of gas for the generator because a bad storm's coming in Sunday on into Monday and on and off all week through Black Friday. You just never know.

Printed up some more info from a site to read, then read it.
Before all this though, I said prayers, my Novena, read my devotion and wrote in my journal.
I put away all the cluttered-looking light houses in the tiny powder room and put out blue candles instead, which looks pretty and much better.
I dejunked a master bathroom basket, put make-up in a drawer, rearranged items in the basket and changed things on the counter to make it look prettier in there.
I sorted the mail.
Leafed through the newest "Writer's Digest" magazine, will read it later, has good articles.
Started DD a striped white and black beanie slouch hat.
Wasted about 1/2 hour working on a slouch hat pattern, trying to interpret what the designer was writing, when she had nothing numbered for rows, nor explained herself very well. Talk about frustration.

To Do:
Help with dinner.
Set dawn simulator, get out clothes, floss in the evening.
Watch some of SNL until I hit my bedtime on Sat. p.m., which is midnight.
Try to write another letter and crochet Dson a hat I like.

I received a "Happy Holidays" card from a pen pal yesterday, so am thinking I could write quick updating notes on our news and put postage stamps on holiday cards to ship Monday to pen pals. They're already addresses, have return labels on them and I'd have a chore out of the way.

Booksaver, Your newsletter job sounds challenging, but it's so nice when a writing job is done.

Scattered, You're so productive! It's great that DS13's applications are ready! Your DS sounds like a brain! Like his mom is! Quite bright people in your family.

Harriet, Did HRH get ill on corn chowder? Or did you, Dee, get ill? Hope everyone's feeling better by now.
