Harriet, Thank you so MUCH for clarifying that Twins' Mom's DH is also known as "Dad", too. You're very helpful. :)

Lucylee, You have quite a list, so is this your errand day on your cards? :?:

Kathryn, I'm embarrassed to ask, but what does "s2s" mean? :?: I've read P & P's books, too, but no longer have them and s2s's is a term I can't put my finger on. Does it mean you've done 2 cards?

Happy New Year's Eve Day, Everybody. :D

I'm going to sign out now because of my sore throat and coughing. I got those germs from dgrson-19 mos. & dgrson-3 3/4 on Christmas Eve and mornings are bad and late night. :(

I wanted to say how much I'm looking forward to being a member of the Village, in The New Year - 2013, because I just have an optimistic "feeling" how we're all going to start off (or try to) the New Year on the right foot and support each other in our resolutions and new goals. I think it helps to have the camaraderie of a group to support each other. Thanks for being here.

Have a GR8 day! :D

Hope you'll feel better as the day goes on, ((((Kathryn)))).

We've been working here and there and have things pretty well done. Still have to vacuum and mop but are leaving that for tomorrow morning. My biggest fear is that gd will come home and start disheveling. DD has cleaned the guest (gd's) bathroom and spent a lot of time on it. GD's room is a royal mess and it'll stay that way unless she decides to clean it. We've already said she can clean if she likes, but NOTHING is coming out in her hallway or the bathroom. So, we'll see. She's at a friend's and we were afraid we might have to get her and bring her home before I take dd to her Ophthamolist appointment at 2.

Think I'll put my feet up until it's time to take dd. BBL -I hope.

I suspect I just ruined someones celebration tonight. I just called and notified our bank their online database is corrupt (at best). At first I thought it was me, but I checked and double checked over and over...and over and over....different accounts and different months I have absolutely confirmed the online transactions do not match the statements. Not even close. The owner & employees of this bank has always been extremely responsive to any request/issue we have brought them, so I expect they are now scrambling to track down the problem.

Junk food is ready for consumption. I'm carefully plotting my plan so I can enjoy it while staying within reasonable calorie intake. I'm not even going to try to stay within my sodium goal - junk food is SALTY!

Ivy, I'll answer for Kathryn. S2S is shower-to-shoes. Although here it is most likely shower-to-slippers, or sometimes I do the shower-to-rollers thing!

Kathryn, that is a lot of food DSiL eats. Is he a big guy?
Lilac, don't feel guilty. You do so much for your DD all the time. And you do have your own life. Kids tend to forget that.

What a day. I sat down to do one of the last chores to ending the year, doing my subcontractor sheets and 1099/1096 forms. Which I consider just snitching to the I R S what money we've given people.. And in the middle of that, we got the last deposit in which DH picked up and ran to the bank, and I wrote the last check to homeowner (we're returning some of it for the work he did)... so that's a good thing, that big project is all finaled out. Except now I have 4 spreadsheets to update and change, after I had the year all done. Oh, well, it's less work than if we didn't receive it.

DDog is as close to me as she can get. She tried to get underneath the desk again. DD2 tells me she does this to her all the time too, never leaves her side, ever. She actually whined when we came back in yesterday. Sometimes when DH goes away she asks to go outside, and I walk her around and she sniffs all the places his truck usually sits!

We won't go anywhere to celebrate; we rarely do. A year or 2 ago we went to a thing at church and the band was so loud we couldn't even hear to chat with the people we were sitting with.

Guess I'll get back to my paperwork.

Oh, I wanted to ask OKay something. Do you think young children given cards to use get so used to them that they grow up learning just to do what's on a list given to them (or cards). Or do they learn to think for themselves what needs to be done on a regular basis? I'm just curious what you think. Without cards, 1 of my DD's knows how to keep up daily; the other can't seem to keep up with basic every day stuff.

OOh, sorry for your banking troubles. I suspect that is making a lot of work for you.

It's been 2 hours since dgd16 procedure was to start. I hadn't heard anything, so I called and dd2 didn't answer. She called back after a few minutes. Turns out I was wrong, she is at home. Obviously, her dh didn't think she needed to be out on the roads or I am sure he would have turned around and went home, so she could get to the hospital. Here is where she is just like my dm, when they are irritated at me, they have a very cold tone. But dd2 has an added arrow, when I hang up I always say I love you and she says it too. When she is irritated, she doesn't. The way I look at it, she is going to need my help in the future and if something happened to me, she'd be in trouble. Also, the last 2 nights her ex and her let dgd16 stay by herself, because they each had already spent a miserable night there. If she would have stayed last night, she would be there and her dh would be trapped with the kids at home. I know she wants to be there but if she would ever listen to the weather and plan ahead, things would be different.

I will be so glad when this procedure is over and we know if there is something else wrong.

Hi! Running through. . . no time to properly cuops, unfortunately, Guests will be arriving in 4:15 and counting. 13 in all, 3 families and dfriend A. Two of the group are ages 5 and 2, so 2 little ones. 18 of us here tonight, but that is sort of a regular small group night -- although this is 2 families from our old small group, one from our current small group, and dfriend A has attended both small groups in the past, but for no longer than a couple months. I made it a potluck so everyone is bringing something, but I still need to make a lasagne casserole, salad/veggie munchies, and provide bread of some sort. Those who want to will head to the theaters around 7 to see one of 3 (maybe 4) films of similar length showing at basically the same time: Skyfall, Les Mis, and The Hobbit. Jack Reacher is showing 15 minutes earlier, so the teenage boys (and some of the men) may go to that one instead. We did this last year, and it was a lot of fun. We'll come back for dessert and games until midnight. I'm actually not sure how many will stay until midnight but likely dfriend B and her family at least. --I think I've already shared this plan here, maybe. Dgirls will stay home and dd17 will babysit the 2 little boys.

This morning, ds and I met dfriend B and her ds (my ds' bf) to look at apartments in a certain bldg. and we ended up signing for one! This took all morning, but now housing for next year for the 2 boys is settled. This is the only way they can room together; it's complicated, but basically freshmen (my ds' bf next year) can't room with upperclassmen in UMich dorms, so the boys had to find an apt. in order to room together. It's close to the central bus locus, which they'll both be using in order to get to their engineering classes on N. campus. It is also fairly close to a dorm, which they'll need for their meals; they'll have meal passes as dfriend and I are not expecting/trusting the boys to cook for themselves.

Dh and kids helped get the house in decent shape; living areas are picked up and vacuumed. I still need to clean 2 bathrooms, make sure the play room is tidy, and do some dusting.

I'm off to the groc. store now.

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes. DH and I had a great day ending with him cooking T-bone steaks for dinner - just like we had 49 years ago when we met. We were married on our 1 year anniversary of meeting so we have now been married 48 years.

Sunday afternoon we went out for Chinese with our friends and then they came over to see our electric fireplace. They want something in their new house so this might work. Then we went to the last ice cream social of the year and saw many friends.

Today, I've done nothing except S2Sox. DH is doing dishes and then I'll go empty more of the decor items out of the kitchen. We have about 10 days to get things ready for the construction. The batten strips in the LR and all down. I still need to move the bar stools, couch, lamp table and TV. I'm going to leave the 2 LazyBoys and the fireplace and just put them in the middle of the floor under a sheet.

Around the 8th or so we will semi-move into the MH using the kitchen and LR there and sleeping and showering in the house. That way I can get the fridge, stove and microwave emptied and cleaned and ready for the Habitat Restore.

Sometime we still have to choose and order the replacement appliances. Probably on-line. But I have to go find the counter tops for the kitchen.

Now I have to go boil a couple dozen eggs for deviled eggs for tonight.

Do you think young children given cards to use get so used to them that they grow up learning just to do what's on a list given to them (or cards). Or do they learn to think for themselves what needs to be done on a regular basis?
I suspect it depends on their personalities and areas where they have weaknesses/strengths. In LO case, the cards are a game to him. He missed them when I stopped putting them out last week but he did the tasks without them but at a much slower rate. When he uses the cards, he gets a verbal "atta boy" for completing them with a "high five" and it always puts a smile on his face. He is always so proud of doing them himself that he struts on his way to put the card in completed stack. (I find this hilarious to watch! This morning when I laid his AM cards out for him, he immediately said "I already know what to do". He wants to be the one who lays them out and refiles them. I haven't seen any negative side to LO using cards to remind him what to do. I am enjoying watching him learn to take responsibility (within his age capability) for himself without me having to be the "reminder"......did you brush your teeth today? Have you taken your vitamin today? Did you use your nasal spray today? on....and on....and on....
