Re: Computer maintenance - I do it monthly. However i never clear out the cookies. They are a tiny txt file which takes up almost no room. I agree with LucyLee DH - deleting them brings more aggravation than it is worth.

My 6 monthly computer maintenance cards are due on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. (that is the day that Microsoft typically releases all their updates).
They include -
** checking for/installing system updates
** running disk cleanup
** running disk check
** defrag hard drives
** checking/updating antivirus definitions
** rebooting (computers stay on all the time so it isn't unusual to go a month without ever rebooting)

Run anti virus
Try to delete unneeded emails and files
Do defrag
Blow dust from keyboard
Wipe screen with microfiber

Waiting for counter man. Doing last minute cleaning

You sent your warm weather up here, cowinkie! Thank you! It is 59* and sunny here!! Yesterday, it got up to 57. I think we are breaking some records. This is 30+* above the average; we shouldn't get above freezing from Dec. through Feb. or so. Our snow is virtually gone! Everyone here is sure enjoying it!!

Dd14 did OK at the music festival, got 2 IIs for a solo and a duet. She was a little disappointed, would have liked to have gotten Is, the highest score. She certainly worked very hard preparing for this. She got quite nervous, though; I sat behind her during her solo and I could see her physically shaking at some point. That is hard for a mother to see. But she stayed with it and didn't let it fall apart. Also, I think the oboe judges are more finicky than the clarinet judges (my ds did this with clarinet for 4 years). And the oboe is certainly a very finicky instrument!

Ds has been here. He and dd17 are working on switching their bank accounts. They have just gone with dh to close their accounts from the previous bank where we closed dd17's savings account about 6 months agao and then they charged us a maintenance fee for the closed account the very next month -- and then we learned that $$ we transferred to dd17's account monthly was going into another account (under dh's name, we think). We're just glad to be done with that bank.

I'm pretty much done editing our New Year's Letter which the girls wrote. Yes, we typically send it out mid to late January; our friends know us and aren't offended. Our cards came yesterday, I think.

I have 1.5 hours before we need to head out to small group. I'm going to finish the a.m. routine and work on the desk piles.

Thanks for the computer maintenance info, MT & OKay! I'm going to make a card for that. And I'll quit worrying about the cookies. What do you think is the main thing that does accumulate to slow down computer speed? We have a lot of trouble b/c we are just barely in range to be receiving dsl in the first place. DH gets so frustrated he can't stand it -- and then I can't stand HIM, LOL!!!

* called ddad, who immediately put me off so he could "see who this is calling" -- w/promise to call me "right back" -- and that was probably at least 30 minutes ago. Probably more. * sheesh * They do that to me all the time. (He AND dmom.) It's like WHOEVER might be calling MIGHT be more important than me... so they HAVE TO check and see... and then they forget to call me back.
DH gets so aggravated w/the way they do us sometimes, I think, and he is always talking about how we are not really necessary b/c they have all these friends who flock to them in times of crisis. Well * sheesh * in ddad's case, a lot of times I think he treats his friends better than he does us. * sheesh *

(((Helia's dd))) I always feel for someone who is nervous. I think she did very well, though! I've always heard the oboe is a difficult instrument. I think my ddil played oboe in her high school band.

I would like to take a nap. I bet ddad would call back the MINUTE I fell asleep. I am NOT calling him back right now. Good grief. I guess he thinks my calls are just to pass the time and check in... but still... he could be a little more courteous, don't you think?
OH -- and get this -- when he is talking on the phone, he NEVER hears my calls beeping in.

Oh well -- here he is, finally returning my call. BBL!

I don't accept cookies from most websites. Makes browsing more tedious (sometimes a website will ask to set up to 30 different cookies when I land on a page and I have to click on Deny for each one of them.) On the other hand, I know I don't have any cookies that can be read by other websites, nor can my movements be tracked as easily (I see no reason for Pinterest to know I came to them via this website for instance but that's what info they can get from cookies.)

For websites that need cookies for registration (like here and the bank) I do allow them.

On my other browser (Chrome) I do allow cookies and clean those out fairly often. Because I travel with my laptop, I'm worried it will be stolen and someone would be able to easily sign in to websites as me. So deleting cookies helps limit that possibility.

I'm back from packing away Christmas at church, practicing tomorrow's anthem, picking up the mail and shopping for groceries. Have put away the groceries and had another snack because I was starving. Did well not buying too much bad stuff despite the hunger although we did end up with two bags of chips (one for dh and the other will be for a church luncheon in February.)

I'm going to lie down for a short nap after hanging up the last load of laundry. The second load of laundry isn't completely put away yet but is partly folded (the socks just aren't matched.)

Two birthday parties well celebrated. LO will be on a 'sugar high" for hours.

January box has been washed out and new labels applied to all 4 sides. I wrote out the word J-A-N-U-A-R-Y on a scrap paper and gave LO 4 index cards to copy the letters. He did his best and then we put the index cards into plastic sleeves and he taped them to the outside of the plastic box. I expect to enjoy seeing those labels of four year old lettering for many years.

Next up - make muffins for Sunday morning breakfast and clean up kitchen.

HAPPY B-DAY LISA B.!

I folded laundry and put it away. I got 6 features written in the car yesterday, logged and submitted them this morning. I did s2s, make-up, and watched a 4-star movie, "The Descendents" starring George "easy on the eyes" Clooney. It was very, very good! I read and purged 2 magazines while I watched the movie. When DH got back from the grocery store, I helped him put everything away. I ate egg potato salad and a doughnut, felt stuffed and drowsy, so took a 1-hour nap in the recliner with my feet on a big sofa pillow, to elevate them. Yesterday was a day-trip up north and our feet were down most of the day. So today my ankles feel swollen a bit.

A dear friend sent me $25 for my b-day and a lovely card, which said such beautiful things about me! It will be saved! She said for me to go buy myself something pretty. I was so pleased and surprised and I'm pretty sure what I'll get since I've lost weight. I want to go to J. C. Penney's to get (hopefully on close-out sale!!!!) an Alfred Dunner top, long-sleeved or 3/4-length sleeve. I can fit a large now, which is about a 16/18 in their brand. It'll be nice to have something new and pretty. ♥
