WEDNESDAY IN OUR VILLAGE

True, true, Harriet... proceeds and responsibility should go hand in hand, shouldn't they. And of course, dbro is going to do NOTHING, so that means our third of the responsibility falls squarely on my shoulders. * sheesh * Maybe I should just gracefully bow out of this whole thing when the time comes. OTOH, I don't mind going down there & helping clean out the house. Kinda interested in what sort of stuff we might turn up. And of course, dmom should be available for light work. She is not an invalid.

However, she IS driving me crazy. She got into the funeral today just after they closed the casket! Missed visitation time altogether! Said she just totally lost track of time, going through paperwork, until it was 10:45, and the funeral began at 12:00. She was only about 5 or 10 minutes away, but probably had to s2s, etc. at that point.
THEN... get this... we did not go to Town B to have meal w/the family, out of the way, dh wanted to come home, busy night tonight w/dgs's "party."
Daunt calls me after a little while, says, "Lucy, have you talked to your mom? She was supposed to be eating with us but she's not here yet."
I said, "Well, she was following dother aunt... I don't know what happened to her... I'll try to call her."
* sheesh *
Couldn't get her on cell phone -- voice mailbox is full -- I just gave up and figured, heck, she's got O nStar; if she has a wreck it will call an ambulance and we'll find out that way. * sigh *
Finally, just now, dmom called. Guess what she did? First she stopped for gas, then she continues on her way from Town A to go to Town B for the dinner. When she gets to the intersection where she should turn, she just continued right on through towards Town C (where other daunt lives). She said, "In a minute it hit me, 'where do I think I'm going?' and I turned around and went down there and made it in time to eat..."
Keep in mind, none of this is unfamiliar to her. Town B is where dgparents on my dad's side have always lived, she has made this trip probably at least 50 times a year for the first 35 years of her marriage.
So, OKay, I'm right there with you... WHEN will they be NORMAL again???

Also... it is becoming extremely apparent that she and ddad were two peas in a pod re: procrastination and lack of time management skills.
AND... she is complaining w/bladder problems again. BUT -- thank goodness, in a way -- she says absolutely NO WAY she will have that surgery again, which I think is a wise decision. I think she is past the point of any hope that surgery could do her any improvement.

Twins, I'm glad you sent the glowsticks. The girls here for the 16th bday party were wearing the skinny glow necklaces on their necks!

Elizabeth, sorry to read your car has been hit. I hope she pays you. When I was hit at the side the guy said he'd pay but he never did.

Lucylee, your DMom certainly sounds stressed. It may take her a while to fully understand that she is on her own regarding time and directions with noone to help.

Yesterday was DH birthday. He is officially an Old Geezer. We went out to dinner. We never do that, but we had a $25 gift card. It cost us another $35 to spend that $25 card! Some restaurants are spendy!

Reading about Sunny's storms. We've not had a lot of rain, it's been all around us. Today we got a few spits. With new grass seed in the yard, we've been wanting the rain.

Today was a church mailing and I stopped at bank on the way home and closed out an account, talked to lady about mortgages. After a long discussion with DH we called a bunch of banks and then I made appointment for Fri with 1st bank and will get a preliminary. We have an ARM and they are going up. I don't know if we will qualify. I copied about 70 pages of stuff to take to the bank so they can decide.

Napping a bit every day. I'm taking new strength of my med, hoping it helps me feel better.

Well it's raining and low areas & small streams have flood advisory out for those areas.

BabyN.'s mom said they made up a new schedule and it's not working they were short staffed and she worked an hour longer than usual but it was fine. She will not be here tomorrow so it will just be dgd so only on kid each day the rest of the week nice to have less to do than with two.

Trying to think of an easy menu for the 4th I have most of it figured out.

Peeking in after a long day.

Slept very well. Missed the 9:30 ferry but got into the queue at 10 for the 10:30 ferry but were warned there was a large funeral coming so we may not make it on. We did. The funeral procession was fascinating - They had two honour guards in historical garb (mid 1800's) and a horse drawn hearse. A lot of the mourners just parked and rode across on the ferry. On the island there was a horse drawn wagon to take them to the church for those that didn't want to walk the half mile. The deceased was only 39 and worked for Parks Canada on the history side, hence the more dramatic send off (we chatted with one of the interpreters on the ferry back.)

We picked up a sandwich and a scone for me (second breakfast, first lunch) and then headed to the other side of the island and picnicked by the second ferry (to NY State) watching for ships. Didn't see any. Came back to town an hour before the return ferry and walked around a bit there. Nothing to see in the town, only restaurants for tourists and most are not open for the season yet.

Came back to the hotel and I was exhausted so slept for 2.5 hours. We had a pizza dinner at a fancy place ($40 for two personal pizzas) and then dh had a nap before heading off to a movie. I've been answering email and preparing a deconvenanting service for the minister. She's scrambling to wind things down in a few weeks.

Originally, the board had asked that she stay on a few more weeks since she won't be back to work full-time until July 8 and is leaving on July 23. But dh sensed at church on Sunday that the congregation has moved on. He said it was a really strange vibe as if everyone was going through the motions but didn't really care and just wanted to 'get on' with finding a new minister. Don't know what will happen over the next few weeks.

Dh is off to a movie and I'm going to piddle around here. I ended up with only one lunch (by the time I should have eaten the second, I only wanted to nap.) I had half a personal pizza for dinner and then had a lot of cut veggies and dip 2 hours later. I'm having tea and chocolate now for a 'dessert.' I've got a bowl of blueberries to have later as well. My early meals today were bread heavy so I'm ending the day with lots of fruit and veggies.

Dfriend A has gone home. It was nice to see her; the meal was great. She brought fresh lettuce and pea pods from the farmer's market so she made a salad in place of the asparagus. She also brought very yummy chocolate and rum truffles from the farmer's market and dd15 made custard tarts w/ fresh strawberries for dessert. . SO we were well set with food.

Got an email today from friends in TX with whom we're vacationing in Santa Fe in July. Their reservations for camping at the national park nearby have been cancelled due to fires. They said that the entire park is closed due to fires, so no hiking in the mountains nearby either. We have exchanged many emails; not sure what we'll do; we may just completely change our vacation destination. Their main goals are to spend some time in a cooler climate than Austin, TX as well as to see us. They will talk together tonight, and we will talk together as well. Dh has just discovered that we can change our tix easily; 4 of them are frequent flyer mile tix and dh's can be changed with a fee. . .

Lucylee...I am wondering if your mom is used to driving herself around or did your dad do all the driving. I know when I first moved here I didn't have my car and Sweetie drove me every where. Once I started driving I noticed I would sometimes get lost. I wonder if this is the same for your mom.... Riding somewhere and driving the same maybe two different things for her. You sometime tell us you get anxious when you have to drive without your dh and that might be the same for your mom.

Lucylee - re your dm and driving - I can do things like that. I think its part stress. part autopilot takes over and forgets where I'm going and is set for different often travelled destination at other times.. The test is how long it takes me to realize. And regroup and get to where I was headed origionally.
Frustrating and confusing. Sometimes disorientating.To say the least.
Has your dm ever had ptsd? Its implicated in mine.

Back from fracture clinic. I need a CT scan to double check how bone is placed. 7.30am Monday week , followed by fracture clinic at 8.45 that took 2hrs 20min today. I rang to see if I could get the scan done at another time but no other times were available - normal wait 4-6 wks.
I have to practice straightening arm right down and bending my arm to upper chest at least 3 sessions a day to retain a working elbow.
