Lilac, my DM also had a shoe story. When she was a little girl, the mother of one of her friends said to her, "You wear cute dresses, but you always have the worst looking shoes!" Today, DM is a bit of a hoarder and buys shoes all the time. She never wears most of them. They won't fit me, but, luckily, they do fit my DD. Twice DM has loaded DD down with shoes.

I'm creating & test driving a new method of tracking my time. Anything new takes more effort so I'll be glad to get the "new" wore off.

FNG meets at our home this evening so next up is moving furniture and preparing for them.

Dh is working more on his work room and finding more and more things to go out in the sale. Sigh.... Our garage (20x20) is pretty full now. Hope a good portion of this stuff goes so we can get the car back into it this weekend.

On the other hand, the basement room I've been working in looks great. The bed is piled with boxes, but other than that, it is very tidy and usable. Must remember to put a cover over the Lego, though. People will be brought down to look at the TVs and the couch that are for sale in there. Not sure how we'll handle the fireplace - maybe move it to the foyer. I'm not taking it outside.

Everything I'm ready to sell this time is outside and displayed.

Now to make up descriptions of the items inside the house and signs explaining how the buying process works.

We leave for the concert in 90 minutes and I have to shower. MUST WATCH MY TIME!

Back from tutoring. I'm tired. Traffic is too heavy for me to go buy the art satchel - or whatever it is called.

Harriet, the floor in the playroom was covered with game pieces from when dd17 last babysat until dd17 cleaned them up last night. And dd17's bedroom floor is almost invisible under all the. .. . junk. She has been warned -- her bedroom is next! Dog toys were moved from area rug to wood floor. . .So, no, our floors are never completely clear, at least not throughout the house.

I thought it was standard to have carpets cleaned annually? I think some friends own machines or rent from the groc. store and do it more often. We have a carpet cleaning company we like come in and do some of the carpets (not all) + area rug every year. This slipped through the cracks last year, so it had been a while. In fact, this was the first time since we moved into this house 12 years ago that the carpet in ds' bedroom had been cleaned. I can't remember the last time it was even vacuumed, so it really really needed some attention. --There. True confessions of a SHE. . . . It cleaned up nicely, but we should probably replace it and paint the walls in that room - but not now. . . Window cleaning is next - we have them (not all) done every fall too. We have a lot of windows, and some of them are old and trap spider webs in between the glass pane and the storm window. With the screens as well, they're a pain to clean. Dh is too busy to do that sort of task. Replacing them all is our eventual plan. . ..We have new ones in our bedroom and bath now, and love them!! Expensive, though.

Dh has called our garden guy to come do some more work on our property - weeding and cutting back the ivy that grows on the outside walls of our house. The ivy is starting to grow over a couple of our windows. Actually, this needs to be done before window cleaning can happen. And he has gotten someone to take a look at some brickwork we need repaired, something on the house and then 2 brick walkway areas off the driveway that need to be redone. It feels good to start addressing some of these issues.

Signs are made and outside around the things. Ds loaned me his change bucket so we have coins for change.

Good afternoon everyone! I made it to payroll in time for the telecom YEAH! Last night, I finished the drawing part of my art project and started outlining it in black in preparation to transfer it to linen, where it will be painted in places, embroidered in others, and beaded elsewhere. Today at payroll after the telecom, I have been reading stuff and making notes. I also had to fix a pain-in-the-tailbone computer problem. My friends cancelled lunch plans. They are going to a happy hour at 4:00, but that is when I am going to take my entries to the fair, so I won't make it. After that, it's on to the knit/crochet group! I lost a shirt yesterday, it was totally unfixable. I need to get some more clothes, but I am too broke to do it.

Interesting note: I spent my whole life being told by my mother that I needed better shoes. In one ear, out the other! I own a black pair of walking shoes, a white pair, flip-flops, and a pair that I wear if I have to dress up. None of them are likely to meet Mom's approval.

ellyphant, 2 years ago I bought a pair of Clark's clogs in navy and a pair in black, but different styles. Mentioned it to dm and she said she had a pair of navy Clark's that didn't fit as well at home as at the store and had never been worn. She then sent them to me and I like them better than the pair of navy that I had bought but I do wear both pairs. Also, that was a mean mother of your mother's friend to say that to a little girl.

Kathryn, you and your dh are doing a great job of downsizing.

Dh called 1 1/2 hours ago. His tire was on and they were testing it. They were almost done with his friends, so they should be on the road by now. He said he wasn't sure how much the tire and labor would be. Well whatever it is, you have to pay it. He said his tire had not lost any pressure and they said it was possible he could have went the whole trip with no issues. Uh, no! We aren't gamblers, especially on the Dragon Tail or the Smoky Mountains. What is one more expense on this trip? I just want him to have a fun and safe trip and come home to me when it's over.

Well, I have been extremely busy since last post!

[x] vacuumed ALL the "living area" of the house. 64 minutes.
This does not include two extra bedrooms and the study, plus long hall and bathroom connecting those bedrooms. I suppose I should consider ds's old room to be part of the "living" area now, since the baby bed is in there and we are in and out of it quite often now. But -- the part I did vacuum took... 64 minutes. Yep, that's it. Now, I admit, I probably did a little tiny bit more than just "hit the middles" -- but pretty much I did just hit the middles. There was lots of changing back and forth from carpet attachment to hardwood attachment. If I went straight through on one or the other, I'd probably move faster. I also stopped several times between rooms where I wouldn't have had to -- but I stopped the timer, also.
Hard floors -- 36 minutes
Carpets/rugs -- 28 minutes
-- So it's pretty equal, isn't it? Approximately 30 minutes would get one or the other, any day I chose.

Next biggie --
[x] MOPPED "guest" bath and kitchen w/my new Swiffer Steam mop!!! 7 minutes in the bathroom, 9 in the kitchen
-- which was VERY suprising b/c the kitchen is MUCH bigger than the bathroom.
If I went back over those two rooms, I'd probably get a lot more dirt up again, but goodness, those pads were just BLACK... so I was fairly impressed.

Also --
[x] focus vacuumed master bathroom -- 17 minutes
(Baseboards, countertops, etc.) I did not do the crown molding, high places, etc.

I'm exhausted and dgs is chattering in the pack-n-play. They just dropped him off, and we thought he needed to finish his nap -- but he may be finished now, LOL.
Gotta feed him, get dmil something for supper, and myself, and go to the bank.

I am so glad you heard from dh, Lilac, and that all is well, relatively speaking.
