Harriet, for my kids b'nai mitzvah I counted heads as adult, teen or child.

I think I'd thank your friends for the "gift" when you see them, but not offer any additional comments, or if pressed indicate "the book certainly was interesting." I doubt that they paid the indicated $28 for the book - probably there was a reduced rate for ordering extras. Yes, a thank you note if you would have sent one for the Christmas gift, and no, I don't think you should change your Christmas shopping habits for such a tacky gift (unless you run across something that does reflect your view that you want to share with them! ) Do they have reason to think you agree with them politically? Oh, another useful phrase: thought provoking. You don't need to say what thoughts were provoked.

Dmom's doc called and she does have a UTI and her sodium is also low, so both are valid reasons for confusion. The in town pharmacy she uses is notoriously busy so I am planning to pick up the script tomorrow and see her to explain the meds and that she can eat more sodium for the time being. Dbro could in theory pick up the meds but I'd rather integrate it into her meds container so meds will get taken regularly. Doc said blood sugar on the high side, but she wanted to straighten out the UTI first since that can also cause a rise in blood sugar.

I am going to read for awhile....

Harriet I read your post about the book gift. It makes me think of people who are buying gifts to support a cause, I am thinking of Bill O'Rielly on fox news for some reason. You could let folks know the package came. What if it was not a new gift or regifting happened! Do not know if this helps or not. Lol! If they ask I would say our view is different. But that is just me.

I went to the orchard got a bunch if free fruit for the chickens, got some for us too. I have some mixed fruit prepped for a cobbler or crisp in the freezer.

Then got a call for an order of eggs so I do not have to make quiche' now. Happy day now I can get the stuff to keep rain out of the run.

Wrote a pen pal a b-day card/letter with friendship book

Congratulations to LO on a great start to the academic year.

Thanks everyone for the help on the Google thing. We already tried the Customize and Control square and can find nothing to affect this. HRH sent a question to Google - we'll see if they understand what we're saying. OKay, thank you for the research. HRH is home now and I emailed him that link, too. He'll probably be the one to try it. At this point, I'm back to using GC, but consistently returning to already-open windows to go to new pages, or right clicking on a page image and choosing "Open link in a new window", which at least cuts down the wait time. I can live with having my convenient most-recently-visited space cut in half - what I can't live with will be the days that Google animates.

Smoked up the kitchen this evening. I've been saying in H and F that I was planning on trying a healthy microwave 1-serving recipe, "2-Minute Cake". Well, it's posted many places on the net and unfortunately I happened to print out from a site that inaccurately lists the microwave time as the 2 minutes. In reality, the recipe means 1 minute prep, 1 minute bake = 2 minutes. With 18 seconds to spare the smoke was awful. I'm so glad I'd stayed right there in the kitchen with it and at least rescued the kitchen from some of the over-baking, because smoke was rolling out. Wow. Anyway, you only use part of the batter at a time so I still had more, and it tasted pretty good.

Do they have reason to think you agree with them politically?

No, Twins' Mom, in fact twice the husband's harsh blanket statements have caused me to ask that we change the subject from politics. I find it difficult to believe they didn't realize I was uncomfortable. So either this is a book they are buying in bulk (perhaps to support a cause?) and sending to everyone they can think of, or they are aiming at those they think need convincing. Yes, the phrase, "thought provoking" might be helpful.

Twins' Mom, wow - both those are huge contributors to confusion. UTIs used to have my dear aunt who'd had the stroke "out of it" for days, and when my dmother had the low sodium her sudden confusion really scared us. Consider D-Mannose capsules daily as a maintenance dose to keep the UTIs away. Thankfully, both these things are temporary, and your dmother could be so much improved in a few days.

HRH got good news from an in-office CT scan today at urologist. He is clear of the previous stone or stones. His only worry now is another small stone forming in a kidney which looks as though it will leave without a wince. But just the fact that there can be a new one trying to cause trouble lets us know he must now adhere to this doctor's forbidden food list. This list is just as random as the gout list, and both include things he would hope he could eat, since at least they are not on the keep-the-blood-sugar-low list. I told him we need a computer program that will take all the lists of foods he's not supposed to eat and cross-reference and come up with safe recipes!

Ivy, I used your link but got so caught up with Susan B's blog itself that I forgot to check out the writing papers! I'm sure you enjoyed using them for your sister's letter.

Hello, villagers ~

Today was errand day.

Went to the county offices to pay the property taxes and registration stickers for our cars. ($$$ ouch!)

Received new plates for our cars instead of just the annual stickers because the previous sets of plates were over 10 years old. Must write the new plate numbers in my calendar. Our cars are common models, and sometimes in a big parking lot the only way I can find either one from a distance is by the license plate numbers.

Stopped at my favorite clothing consignment store. Found 2 tops to use for my sewing demonstration. I am reconsidering one of them, though, because it's pretty enough that I might not want to cut it apart. I have to try it on to see how it looks as is.

Looked at purses at the consignment store but couldn't find anything close to what I like. I had a coupon for a department store so I went there and found a purse that I really do like. I bought it because it was the only one like it in the store, and I love the blue color that will go with everything I wear, but I may take it back because of the cost. I'm not used to paying that much for a purse. On the other hand, I carry the same purse until it falls apart, so I really have to love whatever purse I use. Decisions, decisions ...

Off to cuop to see what y'all have been doing today. BBS.

Harriet, I don't think the name request on the rsvp is odd at all. Suppose they are giving out some sort of wedding souvenirs and have different ones for the kids or would they be placing teenagers at their own table, or something... this isn't a spam organization looking for your names, at any rate!

And as for the gift book, I'd just send a card "thank you for the gift, with (maybe) I shall look at it" which you just did and you're not admitting to agreeing or anything or to how much looking you should do...and I'd do the same thing you always do with their gift at Christmas. They were probably supporting some cause or party or author...

I finished the mbr closet and it looks way better now. Doing some financial research tonight.

Harriet re "early Christmas" gift, I agree with Twins'Mom, Nancy, & Harmony. Ignore the cover price, sounds like they bought in bulk. Give what you normally do. Send a thank you note or Email now so they will know that the book was delivered intact.

I think I mentioned before a couple of library books that used books as art supplies where the projects involved heavily cutting/dismembering/reforming the pages into different shapes. This gift book would be a good source for a project like that, especially if the end result is spray painted. ;)

A few titles to show what I mean:
Book Art by Clare Youngs
Art Made from Books by Laura Heyenga
Playing with Books by Jason Thompson
The Repurposed Library by Lisa Occhipinti
These could probably be requested through interlibrary loan, or the school library might already have them in their arts & crafts section.

So much for my idea to spend the day imitating a rock. :D THANK goodness I was dressed and hair done while I considered how a rock acts. VDFriends dropped by this morning to return church financial documents, but ended up staying for a long visit. Then LO and I visited DMom and took her to local store for a few items. DH made the boring 2 hour drive to get MPB chemicals this afternoon. This evening LO and I met the 4 generations at local park to walk & play.

I'm driving myself crazy changing my mind about where we are going to live. One moment I've definitely decided to stay here and build onto this house. Then the next thing I know I'm looking at homes for sale. This evening I looked at house that has several possibilities. If we move, it will be all about location to LO school. If I could find a house within easy walking of school and sport fields, with a very large yard for dogs and a large area for my garden.....it would be an easier decision. 30 years ago we moved from the country to town with the same requirements. As soon as the kids finished school we moved back out of town into the country (our current home). I'm jabbering. All this thinking and planning is pie-in-the-sky while waiting to see if we have a requirement to live close to school for the next 13 years.

Busy day tomorrow so I best stop jabbering and get to bed. Sweet Dreams.
