New Year's Eve Tuesday

Back again.

(((Harriet))) dealing with forms, and state issues. My co-worker Sharon who lost her DDad this past year is going through some trying times too.

We don't usually go out for NYE either. Sometimes I'm working, and other times like tonight we'll just maybe watch the ball drop at Times Square on TV.

It's been cold here again, but warming up today to the 50's. Hoping it is nice next Wednesday for I go to the hospital.

Have to figure out a grocery list too for this week. I won't be cooking for awhile and the guys like easy to fix things or just order it from the pizza place or the Chinese restaurant. Not to good for my budget or that healthy either.

Dson22 was cleared to go back to work on January 4th. He is out of the boot, limping a bit from being in it so long. He hope the limp goes away soon.

Day not going as planned but still has been good.

Dh and I drove by a building to check it out while we were downtown. It is good to look at these places in winter so the frost on the windows can serve as a warning!

I'm home and exhausted so will go to bed for a nap.

What a hassle to be a good citizen.

I am back to wanting to be a citizen of some deserted island in the Gulf of Mexico. D?uncle just called... I was afraid it was going to be my turn to hear the lecture re: dbro's need to move... but no... he was just confirming that family Bible info had reached me via email from daunt.
BUT... I did get a semi-lecture re: need to visit our dcousin while enroute to CA. Dcousin lives just a few miles off interstate we will be traveling. Easy stop... but... time? * sigh * I love dcousin, don't get me wrong, -- it is ddad's first cousin and I have always been crazy about him! -- but dh has got us on a pretty tight time frame and I just don't see us fitting it in. We just made hotel reservations for our travel, and dh is probably not allowing time for leisurely sit-down meals. Then dh starts griping about not wanting to be visiting people, etc... wanting to listen to ballgames while we drive... AAAAUGUGGHHH!!!

Good grief.

I wish I could run away. I think it might be nice to be alone for quite some time.

I filled up 3 more trash cans with leaves.
Hens are having recess next door where there is more grass.
BabyN hss come and gone.

I have cooked the squash.

It is 41* outside and sunny & very plesant!
I vacuumed swept and mopped traffic areas & rounded up laundry so this round has been productive.

Hens are home but one.

I made some sweet bread it is ready to go in the freezer.

Thanks, Harriet, I did have a short nap. I think I missed saying congratulations to your DS for promotion and DD/DSIL for new baby. Such good news for the end of the year. *\o/*

DFriend's death threw extra social activities into the holiday week. Also, today is the 2 year anniversary of DNiece's death at age 21, after a 7 year battle with cancer. A very sober & reflective day.

Other than the 3 Ds, the most difficult things I've managed to accomplish today are a couple of online jigsaw puzzles. Oh, and I did make it to the post office and made a deposit at the bank for the library group, I guess I'll take credit for those.

DH and I rarely do anything special on New Year's Eve. That turns out to be a really good thing tonight because we're in the middle of a really cold spell and are supposed to get a lot of snow tonight. I have no desire to be out driving. After we have supper, he'll be happy to hunker down in his mancave to watch tv. I'll probably also watch a couple movies I've recorded, The Thin Man and one of the Fred Astaires from TCM. So much excitement!

Mike decided to go shopping this afternoon. By himself. That was okay by me. I had things to do and I really didn't feel like going outside. (My BFF called last night and cancelled our lunch get together. (? get-together?)

I put away the very last of the stuff that was still out from the last trip in November. That's so I can find it before we go to Niagara Falls in 2 days...

After I did that, I was walking through the kitchen to get to the computer and I decided I would be a sweet wife and do some dishes. Mike has been the chief cook and bottle washer around here for almost 2 years. He does all of the grocery shopping, meal planning, cooking and clean up.


WELL!!

He got home just before I was finished. He poked his head around the corner into the kitchen to see what the water was running for and he must have heard the clink of a few dishes...

You should have seen the look on his face. HA!!

Happy New Year's Eve, Everyone, as we slowly count down to midnight.

We watch TV and see the fireworks at the Space Needle from midnight - 12:15 a.m. or so. Then, around here, about within a 1/2 mile - 1 1/2 mile radius, there are firecrackers, shot gun blasts, and cherry bombs going off until about 3:30 a.m. sporadically. Occasionally someone sets off a stick or 2 of dynamite. Drives Tutu my cat nuts. Does everyone experience this where they live? We're in the county and in the country, so maybe this is why things "rock" a bit more than living within city limits?

CathyS, Your picture of your DH seeing you do dishes was so comical! Men are so funny, sometimes.

(((Booksaver))), I'm glad you got in a short nap. Sorry about your DNiece's 2-years-ago today death anniversary. Sad. I hope coping with it gives you more comfort as the days and years go on, too. So young, too.

Nancy, Your sweet bread sounds so good. What makes it sweet? Is it a tea bread baked in a bread loaf pan?

Helia, It's really tough to have anxiety get in the way of very social interactions. I have an anxiety disorder, so shy away from crowds, although I bite the bullet, "focus" and make myself go anyway. It's hard. Breathing helps, a lot, too.

Also, it IS a hassle to be a good citizen and do everything right and legal! On that other subject, I can almost hear your big "SIGHS" through the speakers! Dealing with insurance items can be frustrating, too.

Lucylee, At least you'll be busy, and perhaps awake when the New Year gets rung in? Will look at J & C, too.

I crocheted a bit on dgd's leg warmers, am on row 14 going up the leg on the 1st one, need to try to be done with the leg warmers & hat to ship off Jan. 3rd, so it's there by the 8th, her first b-day, but it's only going NE about 70 miles, so will make it in time. Was thinking, since Ddil bought the yarn, didn't need/want me to repay her, since I'm doing the work, how if there's enough yarn leftover, I'll make Ddil an infinity scarf to match dgd's leg warmers & hat so Dom & DD will match. I'm sure hoping for that extra yarn to be there after 2 leg warmers, a hat, & since there are 3 skeins, I might get it to work! Also, since the infinity scarf pattern is 2-strands crocheted together, I could possibly use 1-strand of my own purple on hand & then 1 strand of her variegated purple/rose. Sounds good to me.

It's slow going with a wrist brace on, to crochet, so am glad I have Jan. 1 - 3 to still baby-step the process.

I napped for a long time. Had a bad headache and it needed to be dealt with.

Then we cooked up more bacon (we had bought 4 pounds) and as many of the veggies as possible as we work our way to emptying the fridge. I made up a huge stir fry for myself, taking care of a red & green pepper, the snow peas, the leftover roast beef and the last of ds's stir fry sauce. There's a lunch for me tomorrow leftover from that. Dh dealt with the green onion, mushrooms and cream by making pasta for himself.

Over the next few days, dh is going to have lots of corn tea so he can use up our homemade maple syrup. It will go skunky during the trip.

The fridge is empty enough now that I can clean off the shelves. That might be a chore tonight.

Sweet bread is made with a cake mix I added one half c. milk, one egg, one c. Pumpkin, one tea. ea. of vanilla, Cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice; 1/2 c. ea. of raisens, dried cranberies, & ch. Chips, baked in a a loaf pan. (If you people like coconut you could add that too.)

One loaf is for the guys at work to go with h. On Sat. I was going to do a ch. Cake mix one too but did not get those at the store. I that onfo. it in a previous post that I lost. Sigh!

H. Is working late to night. He is home now.
I put away the Christmas wreath today.

I got part of the kitchen done cleaned up.

1. Cleaned out fridge. Except I forgot to do the door stuff - went back and it isn't too gross so left it.

2. did half the weekly kitchen chores.

3. Cleaned off the top of the stove and put the bits into the dishwasher and ran it (it is still going.)

4. Changed the linens.

5. Gathered up Christmas things (spoon rest, linens, etc) and put them aside to pack up tomorrow morning. This morning I put the Christmas mugs back and I never pulled out the Christmas glasses. Not sure if that means I shouldn't bring them when we move, or not. I was so busy this year, I simply never remembered, it wasn't a conscious decision to see if I could live without them.

6. Swept the floor and replaced the felt on the bottom of the a chair (it had come off.)

I feel like that is something. Of course, it was not on my to-do list!

Dh is ready to head to bed so we'll do that now. No need to stay up and watch the New Year come in. One week from tonight, we'll be dressed to the nines in a gown and tux to enjoy a formal evening so tonight is jeans and heavy sweaters to keep warm. Looking forward to ditching long underwear, thermal socks and heavy shoes for bare legs and sandals.
