Home from today's class and have a pot a homemade chicken/vegetable soup simmering. I'm taking a break and regrouping a bit.

Twins - I suspect I like the idea of the back-to-school challenge more than the actual doing of it. I do think I am older than you though. I'm 58. However remember that my future looks different from most my age - we just signed up to raise a child through another 16 years (or so) of school. Sooooooo compared to that....... going to college for a few years seems somewhat easier than it really would be. I'm about to talk myself out of it though. I seem to have lost my patience for senseless studies......goofy illogical Kindergarten level homework drives me crazy

Hi everyone! I am still on the day/night near reversal schedule. I did get up and eat well (I am trying to get at least one good meal a day). However, I have decided not to eat at church. I would rather save my money. It is only $3, a real bargain, but I want to save my 'eating out' money for other things. While eating I got my Bible study homework done. Nothing like leaving it to the last minute. After that, I picked up some button blanks for a animal org fundraiser and some yarn to make a shawl for an animal org silent auction. If it sells for over $10, then it pays for both. I returned some library books and picked up one I had on reserve. Still no Dr. Who video. On getting home, I brought trash bin into garage, got some stuff ready to mail (will mail after Bible study), and 27 boogied the kitchen. Kitchen still needs work, but better. LR and MBR need work, MUST be done before Saturday because I will have DD12 and she will likely want to have friends over.

I am now starting on job search stuff. The goal is at least one application per day. See ya later!

8 days left of summer here, and there is a late burst of heat these last few days. Over 100 at times. Not much in the way of summer storms here this year, and even less that actually delivered rain.
My lush yard features crispy dead grass and weeds. The bank of singapore daisy keeps its green lush look, and the absence of rain means it hasn't sprouted anew as much as many years. One thing to be thankful about.
It would not be unknown for it to go until next summer without and reasonable rain periods. Lots of places are struggling in drought, and out west, folk are needing to shoot their entire remnant herds.

Remembering one rainy summer that delivered 22" in february,
then it stopped for 18 months.
In the August of that year half our farm was burnt through,
the grass clump ash stayed as newly burned through a full year.

re house size -
I was talking last week with someone who had grown up as one of 12 children in what was meant to be a 3 bedroom home. When I mentioned living room she humpfed. There was no LR. The boys slept there where it would have been, she said. One bathroom. The kitchen was the family's space to gather. I'm imagining long stools that seat 6 a piece on either side of the table. Or maybe more were at the ends.
I ort stretch a measuring stick around and see the size of this space. The carport and veranda make it bigger.

I grew up in a very tiny house. When we all ate in the kitchen we pulled the table out a bit for the other end seat where someone sat sideways and when pulled out the refrigerator door couldn't be opened. 1 bathroom for 4 until dad built on another room and powder room. My bedroom was so tiny it had no closet, but when grandpa came to use that room I shared Sunny's slightly bigger bedroom and closet. The current owners turned my first bedroom into a closet!

Very tiring day. I'm not happy DH won't be coming directly home, but if it must be... he seems determined to go to rehab first. Business things keep cropping up that I can't address. He had to handle several problems by phone tonight. We got a scare this morning, dr. found a very sore spot on his calf and ordered an ultrasound to look for a clot...and there was no clot there. Technician who did the test told us unofficially he was ok, and we didn't get the official result of that test till at least 6 hours later. Nerve wracking.

They took off the pain pump today, the saline iv and the cath. This is all much harder than we envisioned. He walked the hall 3 times, he goes sooo slowly and can't put much weight on that leg. I saw the incision tonight, it is very long, at least 10".

Just gotta see it through, a day at a time. Ran a couple errands on the way in, did some things in the house, sorted mail. Keeping up is the easy part right now.

Last Saturday I had received a post card in the mail from our a/c company saying they would be here to check maintenance on our unit. Well dh has p.t. on Friday and I needed to call to reschedule. Before I could do that she called this morning asking if we would mind The Man coming today. That was fine with me, except it would be in a half hour I usually vacuum the filter on Friday or Saturday when I do carpets--so that got done first. I continued with whatever time was left to vacuum hallway, dining room and living room, damp mop kitchen floor and clear dining room table of newspaper and a few pieces of mail. So I guess the house is pretty much done for the weekend and the a/c is good for another 6 months!

Interesting conversation today about our houses. It was nice to think back and remember the home I grew up in and lived in raising our family. The house I grew up in was two story, three bedroom. When my dgrandfather moved in with us, my ddad built another room onto the house for a bedroom with a powder room for him. As near as I can remember it was around 1100 sq. ft. The house dh and I built in 1972 was a split entry with three bedrooms. The main living space was upstairs, the garage and family room were downstairs. The f. rm. had a window and a door to the back yard. It was around 1300 sq. ft. I liked this house. Our present home is about 1400 sq. ft.

Dee...hope you get some good news from dh's test. I guess your dfamily is home by now.

The house I remember we moved when I was 2 lived in a motel for a while then rented after that we lived in a 2 brm. House dad built. Then we movwd to a 75 yr. Old 2 story Victorian money pit. (Dad was a carpenter so that did not bother him.)

It had 3 acres one acre in grass to mow with push mowers, we had chickens there. A banker had built it by embezzling $ from the bank. He hired a Chinese person to be a guardener an lots of rock walls with plants it was hard to keep up. H. & I had a garden wedding there.

Felt better today. Did ankle/leg stretches before going to Safeway with DH. Was nice to get OUT!

Been doing FOCUS storage stuff. Am tired. Got a bin of clothes partly washed and hung. Will do more tomorrow.

DH will take his buddy to breakfast in the a.m., to repay him for rebuilding the chimney cap, which is 25 feet high off the roof. It'll be re-installed this spring. DH said with burning wood 24/7, he won't need the chimney cap on until Spring, when the swallows always come to build their nest in our smoke stack.

Dsis got a new job. She's going to be a site mgr. of a 3-story storage site, with 2 employees under her. The trainer comes to train her tomorrow. The pay's good, plus she gets commission. She gets other perks, too. WTG for her!

DD wrote a letter, sent a St. Francis of Assisi Magnet Prayer in it with 2 other prayers, which aren't magnets. Was touched. ♥

Haven't read nor crocheted today. Wrote a L. L. to a L. L. pal though. She's such a Dear Soul. ♥

We're supposed to get another storm, but I've forgotten when, because they come and they go; they come and go some more, with little 8 - 12 hour breaks in between. Next week will be warmer and sunny! Hope to visit my elderly DFriend next week. The calendar's filling up fast with things to do and places to go, but it's good for me/us. At least we're not "boring"- to US, at least!

Harriet, all my best to your HRH, Joe, and Joe's wife, Harmony, I'm sorry you needed to wait so long, too, before knowing about the clot, and Dee, prayers to you Mr. Deeclutter and your Dfamily, too. And Sadie, that's so true about the left arm/shoulder, typing, etc... My rotator cuff surgery was the left shoulder, so typing a lot can aggravate the shoulder- sometimes. Hello again! I went to Bible study and mailed off the things I needed to. Then I had a snack/dinner while reading. Now I am going to work on my charity crochet while watching videos. Unfortunately not Dr. Who videos. Really want to crochet with the doctor.
