Monday miscellany

We've had a beautiful spring day here; sunshine and temp in low 70s.

Happy Birthday Mr. OKay!

Today was Desk Day; I'm ready for payday. Also took care of a few miscellay tasks left over from the weekend. Ran a lol through washer and dryer, put clean clothes away, dusted MBedroom and living/dining rooms, got some mail ready to go out. Also brushed both ddogs; have to do that outside since they are still both shedding heavily.

Thinking about ((Harriet & dfamily)) today as well as ((Harmony & dh)).

Sadie, congratulations on being Associate of the Month!

BookSaver, I've checked out the publishing site. It is very interesting with lots to do.

I think I'll catch up on my reading now.

Long hair and gasps of disappointment... I have heard that at least twice in my grown life. Once was in early 1985 when I decided to get my hair chopped to a Duran Duran style where one side was almost non-existant and the over-all style was boyish. I had gotten the only perm of my life for my birthday in October of 84. Very tight spiral curls. It was awful. My wedding pictures to my first husband show this hair nightmare of curls. UGH! To get rid of the remains of the perm, I went drastic. My first husband was very upset at the boyish over-the-top chop.

The second time was around the spring of 1999. Layered and only shoulder length. I had to promise never to go that short again. Right now my hair is always worn up in a partial bun of all things to help me stay cool when the hot flashes overwhelm me with the all over heat.

We think that men don't notice hair just because they never mention it, but people notice people and when the change is unexpected, we all let out that ~gasp~.

Today I was reading Mike's body language when I was trying on various pants. I came out in a pair of black capris and his reaction had me turning and going back in to change immediately. He loved them. He was tiring quickly though, so I decided to respect that and quit while I was ahead.

Today was an extremely lucrative day in numerous stores. The only thing we couldn't agree on was a suitcase. We are going back to S ears tomorrow after Mike picks me up from work.

Dinner has been eaten and I've loaded most of the dishes in the dw. We're going to wait for dd18 to return from tutoring to finish dinner clean up. Dh is off at a church committee meeting. I've been looking at articles on the M alaysia Air lines ? flight that went missing. ...How dreadful for the families with loved ones on board.

We only did 1 chapter in Hebrew class today, so I have 1 chapter leftover for Thursday. I'll do some more verses, though, b/c 21 will not be enough.

Such a lovely day today! Tomorrow is forecast to be in the 40s - but cloudy, and snow is supposed to arrive in the night and fall through Wed. morning. Estimates now are from 4 -8 inches total. Ergh. Maybe no school on Wednesday? Our school still has 2 snow days left; we've used 4. It will be cold Thursday too - and then jump into the upper 40s on Friday. Then, next week looks colder than this week.

Tonight:
- prep for tutoring tomorrow morning. I know what I'm doing - just need to prep for it.
- update laundry - folding and putting away
- meal plan and groc. list
- weekly plan written out

I think I've missed some birthdays here. . . Was it Lilac's yesterday?

Happy Belated Birthday, Lilac! I hope you are enjoying your trip and were able to celebrate!

Came back to wish Mr. Okay a very Happy Birthday! Kept forgetting to do it. I'll blame it on the time change!

Dawned on me about an hour ago -when I quickly grabbed the agenda for our women's meetings this year -I am hostess tomorrow at 9:30. I will do a grocery run on the way. Supposed to be very simple these days anyways.

Last thing I was irate about here was Mr. Harmony not getting to go home as early as expected. How is Mr. Harmony?

There, much better.

A sudden, relatively unexpected death, but of someone with a large family, just causes such ripples of responsibility and of trying to get along with so many people. Everyone nice in their own way, of course. But with different points of view, different problem-solving styles and, of course, different abilities to either afford or implement their varying ideas.

Can't stop people from trying to take us out to supper each night. I'm going to gain a ton. Tonight big table of 8 of us winding down and comfortable with each other, but I still felt anxious. This following long meeting of 7 of us (different) at funeral home, with several not prepared like they said they would be, causing problems. HRH doesn't want anything negative said afterward, so his sister and I have to just look at each other and roll our eyes together.

I am feeling the effects of DST, I guess, and spring-in-the-air (allergies already bothering me this season, in spite of years of desensitization shots. ). I have been sooo draggy all day long. Have done NOTHING except the Wmart/grocery put-away routine. And elder-care/dmil. Had to get her mail and go to drug store (for rx that was NOT called in today. Will be there tomorrow. ) I also made phone call to daunt whose cousin is being buried tomorrow -- no relation to me -- and to dmom to check in on her and report on funeral visitation from yesterday. And talked to ds, who called me.
But I slept very very late, s2s even later, and now I am ready for a nap.

You know, with that Malaysian air crash... I understand the ocean is big and wide, but they did say they saw oil slicks in the general area... why aren't they already searching in the area of the oil slicks? Or maybe they are and I have missed something today. Or maybe the ocean is just so big and wide and the oil moves so quickly that it's no help? So sad to think about families not having any closure on a loss like this.

And helia -- our weather is crazy, too. 70 today... 40s again by the end of the week! (No more snow for us, as far as I know, though!)

DH here would certainly be gasping if I got a haircut. Mine stays around my collarbone/shoulders. Any shorter and I can tell dh does NOT think it is very attractive. (But I don't like it any shorter, either. It's so thick and wavy/curly, I need at least this much length/weight to pull some of the curl under control.)

Re: the young teen... apparently young adults (in my family at least) are not too bright, either.
Duncle, complaining about my cousin/duncle's nephew:
"Dnephew was supposed to be up at your mother's to help me power wash that fence Monday, and I got up there around 11:00 a.m. He shows up around 1:00 p.m. with other dnephew. He stays there about 45 minutes and says, 'Well, I've got to get other dnephew back home so he can get to class by 3:00."
Duncle said, "I asked him, did you not know he had class at 3:00 when you left home? Why did you bring him up here with you if you couldn't stay any longer than that?"
Dnephew said, "Well, I just wasn't thinking."

I told duncle, NONE of them think. Basically, IIMHO we've got a whole generation that cannot think past the next 15 minutes.
I know they don't ALL fit that stereotype... and some of our village children here are exceptionally mature. My own ds does generally pretty well -- at least with the big decisions -- but even he can be awfully laidback and fail to plan on the little daily things.

Well, I know I have skipped over a lot of stuff I should have responded to, but maybe y'all will forgive me. First time dh has not had the computer tied up in DAYS and I just want to sleep till my allergy trouble goes away. (Which dh will be the first to say will probably be November, LOL!)

Is my dh the only one that actually likes shorter hairstyles? He likes a shorter spunky look. When he saw the movie Tangled, he loved loved loved (get the idea?) her hair after it was cut. LOL! I don't look good in long hair and haven't had my hair long since. . well, elem. school. I had it around shoulder length in high school. It's shorter now than it has been for a long time, but I have a great stylist who cuts it well. I don't always style it, though.

Unproductive evening. Will finish copying for tutoring tomorrow.

Worked on the investment account reconciliation tonight. It is slow and frustrating work. I'm only up to September so have 5 more months to do to be caught up. We meet with the advisor on the 25th so I'm glad I'm getting this done but I'll have 'questions' (complaints) for him.

Also wrote my speed for tomorrow night. I may not have to give it because I offered in December and I'm sure the chair has forgotten, but if not, I remembered. I'm competing for the Try Try Again award where you make a speech about how your really screwed up but you kept on going.

The minister emailed to say she was skipping the meeting tomorrow night which means I don't have to coordinate picking her up and can leave straight from here. That will make my day easier, I can leave when I want and take any route. That's one thing about living way out here - I have a number of ways to get to the other edges of the city and this meeting is miles and miles away. It almost couldn't be farther.

Now I feel better.

Cousin on other side of HRH's family called us - she could find obit online by going round-about, when we had missed it going in the "front door" of the front page of newspaper online and were going to give up tonight. So seeing obvious first mistake no one could have missed, I called immediately and spoke newspaper-ese to the night editor on metro desk. He got me a very competent obit editor who could change not only that mistake but two others she and I could see together needed to be made right. They had already changed another they saw themselves. So that was 4 corrections that needed to be made on what funeral home had sent, one of which I had asked to be corrected twice while we were sitting there. And it would have been in print like that... ... (fainting icon).

HRH is amused at my statement to him that now I can rest. He says now that I've corrected small things, I'm translating that mentally into a correction of all the frustrations I've felt. But I do not consider this small - newspaper obit is the time to be respectful and corRECT. I can't change some things, and was definitely shut out of contributing most of my thoughts as to what should be written ( I lost the battle for including the middle name of deceased's precious mother, which nearly put me into traction I was so tense, but there's nothing I can do about it .) But the EDITING for accuracy will be correct or bust.
