Morning ya'll...

Bookie, before I forget it, I have heard of salting as a way to preserve vegetables and meat...Many people from the hills of TN used it. My uncle was known for miles of around for his sugar cured hams...most used salt.

I am enjoying my day. House is done and so is the laundry. Dinner is ready to put into the oven so I have time on my hands. Way too hot for me to do much outside although my sunflowers seeds need to be harvested. That will be a messy job. Going to leave some of the sunflower heads out for the birds and animals to feed on. Waiting for a bit of cooler weather. That should be sometime during the weekend.

I am into my genealogy pretty heavy at the moment, so I am glad to have this time to devote to them.

Already talked to one of my new to me cousins this morning as well as my mom...that phone conversation is never short so I usually plan time for it.

So glad Kathryn is excited about having her dd around. Know I would fell the same way if my son and I lived closer to each other.

Off to do some more investigating. Maybe I should change my handle to Ms Marples

Hi everyone. That was some storm we had yesterday. Thunder & lightning for several hours, plus lots of rain. All the trees, bushes & flowers got a really good soaking. Ddog & dcat were not happy, poor things. After some particularly loud booms when the storm was right over us, I would tell them, "It's OK", but could tell by their expressions that they didn't believe me one bit . We were so thankful that we didn't lose power as many areas in our state did.

((Hugs)) for your dMacs, Twins. Is he having trouble on uncarpeted areas? If so, maybe a couple of long runner rugs around the house would help him with traction?

Hi Nancy. Your post made me peek in my hamper to see if I should start washing today ). It's not full yet, but close. I've been switching from a mostly Monday wash schedule to whenever the hamper is full & I'm home schedule since we switched from winter to summer clothes.

Hi Bookie, will the L ego events at the library be year round or just for the summer? Your post reminded me that Pam & Peggy had funny names for what they called the seven disorganized dwarfs. I don't remember them all, but they included Cram & Stash . (Does anyone remember all seven names?)

Hi Cats, I thought your chiropractor suggestion was a good one. My feet & lower legs get a bit achy when I have been barefoot a lot (something I am very guilty of in the summer). As soon as I put on my sneakers they feel much better right away. I buy running sneakers for the extra support even though I only walk right now.

Hi Feline Friend, I hope your dcat is feeling more like herself now. Have you thought about taking a walk around the outside of your house & inspecting the doors & windows for signs of a break in? Hopefully it was just some early celebrators setting off fireworks that scared her. Around here various neighbors set off firecrackers a few days before & after so 4th of July lasts about a week . Congrats on your weight loss! I love the image of you cleaning in sequins, but for some reason I picture you wearing a tiara at the same time

I'm off to do some dinner prep & then pin dh down on what day(s) & times we will work in the basement over the next few days. He agreed to this about two weeks ago but always waits for me to remind him. I think he hopes I'll forget

Dove, When DH left for Costco today, I went to the garage, to make sure there wasn't a broken window in the back door leading to the back yard, near the utility room window, where my cat sleeps, and the garage window wasn't broken into either. Everything else seems fine. I think DH is right: It's fireworks, a coyote calling in the night, which sends chills up your spine, or a deer walked on the gravel past the utility room, where my cat is. We have a large utility room, a big bed on the counter for her, canned food leftover from dinnertime, dry food, water and a catnip pillow I crocheted her. Also, the neighbor's taken out some trees, so the traffic from the road over a ways, is loud. Someone could've been racing a hot rod or motor bike, which could have scared her, too. She's a bit skittish today, at loud sounds, so I'm surmising it was loud sounds from fireworks that made her jumpy.

I called DH on his cell, it rang and rang and rang. A Voice Mail said "This number is unavailable now. Please call back later." That's never happened before, I kept thinking about his head cut, got worried, but then he called right back. He said it's the 4th tomorrow, there were tons of people at Costco, and he was near our home. When he got home, I inspected his cut. It was little, about 1/2" long, was dried, and how he did it was when he threw a piece of wood into the dump truck, a piece of wood bounced back and his his head on top. It's a minor thing, but when it's bleeding, it looks awful bad! I'm glad he's okay!

I've got clothes drying and washing, then I'll be done. I hot spotted the eating bar, will clean counters tonight, with all the kitchen lights on. I don't have that much to do, DH said he'll help, too, so that's nice. He was so sweet. He came home with a V-Neck short-sleeved aqua tee for me, which I have 2 cardigans, which match it perfectly AND an ankle-length black and silver striped skirt with the stripes in an odd pattern. Like some stripes are diagonal, some vertical, and then at the bottom again, they're horizontal. It's really nice and I have a fuller figure top, short-sleeved, which is silver floral print on black. I decided to wear it tomorrow- if the skirt fits. If not, I'll just change into something else. Maybe a sweater set and bootleg Levis. I want to look nice for DD and after all, it's a holiday.

We're going to eat a pineapple chicken bake-in-the-oven dish, with rice, and salads. I'm so glad I decided to not "worry" or push writing 2 more additional Oct. stories because they already have 2 from me. I have a life, too, and want to enjoy DD and Dgs-15.5 when he gets here the 5th - 12th.

I'm feeling better, too, than I was this morning. More relaxed. I'm getting ready to run and eat a drumstick from Costco rotisserie chicken with salad, too. Or with bread and whipped honey. The bread I'm eating is whole wheat, baked at the Safeway bakery, it's so good, flavorful and has seeds, etc.. in it. Very healthy.

Nancy, your post also made me check my laundry basket, and sure enough, I had enough for 2 loads. Thanks for posting.

Helia, I sure hope your DD-18 isn't ill over the 4th! I hope she's better by evening.

Kathryn, You ARE lucky your DD is close in distance AND your DS will be home soon, too! How are your feet today?

The news just said people who eat dark chocolate are 11% more able to walk farther. YUMMY! That's a good motivation!

DS & I walked only 2 miles today, b/c he was in a hurry to get on with his day (they are leaving to visit ddil's parents for the weekend) and I was feeling miserable w/allergy problems, anyway.

Since they left, I've been stuck on al.com watching live coverage of the hearing from Atlanta w/the father who left his child to die in the car.

LOL, Harriet, at duncle commenting on dmom's mess... * sigh * And this is what I live with. So it's probably understandable that I'm a paranoid mess, right?
ON THAT TOPIC... * Please, y'all, give me some input on how you would handle this: I am REALLY getting paranoid about the family gathering tomorrow, or lack thereof. I mean, dmom seems quite confident that we are ALL invited, we are all ALWAYS invited, and if we have not been "formally" informed about this year's gathering, we should excuse dcousin and her dmom since it HAS only been two weeks since their sister/daughter's death.
OTOH, dh says he just does NOT feel right about barging in on them... if they haven't called, maybe they just want their immediate family this year, especially since it has only been two weeks. He says he is not going if they do not call!
I really don't think my family operates that way... BUT... since I have called daunt twice in the last two weeks, and she has not returned call... and I called dcousin yesterday and SHE has not returned call... I'm beginning to think, hmmmm... IS there something going on that I don't know about? Hmmm... Just b/c you're paranoid doesn't mean they AREN'T out to get you, right?

Fri. Is usually my laundry day but I wanted to not do it on the 4th. I have one load folded ready to put away . Working on watering he perimeters on the back next West fence line next.

dove i cant walk around to long without shoes on my feet get real unhappy i keep looking for a pair of shoes i can wear when i want out of my regular shoes, so far havent had any luck. right now working on dishes then have to leave to do an errand not getting much of anything done today. thats the way it usually works around here

I am home again finally and feeling whipped. Hair appt, picked up meals for dmom, picked up meds, problem with meds so back into store. Waited awhile for script. Then to dmom's. Can't find meds that she rec'd in mail this week. Paperwork is there but meds unlocated. I pitched a hissy fit and they finally turned up. Mom had no idea where they were or what hissy fit was about. From there, picked up at alteration store, then got cash at bank. Pedicure at two p.m. took a little more than two hours. She had overbooked today. I always say I like a lot of soaking time but this was ridiculous. Finally done, let them dry a little, then to liquor store for wine to take to party tonight and finally home. I didn't do anything about an appetizer or dessert to take tonight. I have a bag of Tostitos and Publix black bean and corn salsa that I may take, with apologies. If dh thinks we should take something nicer, perhaps we'll stop off at Whole Foods on the way.

And I need a shower.

You just brought to mind a beautiful memory (for me anyway), Booksaver. A number of years ago we were on our way to visit DD in FL (had been in Cincinnati for dgs who was then about 6 or 7. Had to go through Atlanta and on the way south from there, all of a sudden dgd then about 5 I think, shouted (as she saw a big billboard), "Look Mom! It's the "Ho-Ho" guys!" Of course meaning the 7 Dwarfs. She was so thrilled. It was always one of dShelley's favorite memories as well.

Went to all my appointed stops EXCEPT to S am's C lub to get the Angus burgers. I'll have to run there tomorrow or maybe tonight. On my way up to the pavilion to see if they're having "Cruise Night". I almost doubt it as it's been raining off and on and those guys don't want to get those classics all mud spattered. So may be going out to buy dinner.

Lucylee , Perhaps it's innocent, they're really busy, and maybe wanted time to relax? You can't read their minds, they haven't returned phone calls, so they might be super busy or relaxing or perhaps made other plans? Maybe *IF* they made other plans, they don't answer phone calls, as to not upset you? I'm just surmising all this. It could be a simple explanation to it. Or do they "play games" and have a history of playing games? I just don't know.

Twins' Mom, I can understand where you'd feel whipped. That shower you're planning to take, might help you feel energized and not as whipped.

Cats, I wear jogging/running/athletic shoes, fitted by a special shop here, near our town, and they even watch you walk back and forth from them and back to them, to make sure you're not pronating or wiggle-wobbling the ankles. I find that athletic shoes, especially for runners/joggers, are very comfortable for being on my feet.

Nancy, Your banana layer pudding is one I've made before and it was a huge hit, too. It reminded me of how today, I learned their is a baseball player, who is older now, who may be retired, but his name rhymes with banana and his name's Tanana. Very unusual, to me.

Dove, I bought a Tiara at the Dollar Store, when it was still in business in town. I DID wear it around the house, to empower me and rule over my cat and DH, but then, after about 1 year, I thought how embarrassed I'd feel if I got caught with it on, so ditched it. NOW I wish I'd kept it for my Dgd to play with and wear when she gets older. I can always get another one though.

DH vacuumed, dust mopped and I'm still doing laundry; 1 last load of 2. I scrubbed toilets, mirrors, counters, sinks, the washer and dryer. I worked 30 minutes strenuously and am taking a break now. I was starting to ache and knew my body was telling me it was time to rest. I put some Icy Hot Roll-On on the painful ostearthritis sacrum at the hips below the back waist, so feel a LOT better now. Just drowsy from a good warm meal and working. I had a drumstick, whipped honey on whole wheat bread and almonds. My afternoon snack will be squash with Molly McButter Butter Duds (I think that's all the proper words - fake sprinkling butter flavor) because I cannot have margarine or butter now. I feel much better without them though. When I get going again, I need to put away some cards and list pads from Current Co. and dust. I'll baby-step the dusting and DH said he can help, too. My laundry's nearly dry, so I must flit off like a little butterfly and take care of that, too. Then I'm done. I tidied the end tables, too. So the rooms all look very nice. I'm sleepy. Maybe I can get a bit of a cat nap in before the dryer dings.

And FF, the shower did help. I almost feel like I washed the day off.

Dh says he wishes he had my life.

I set up crates for dogs and medicated macs. Set up a fan in garage also, which will move air and block some noise. Ds will take the out to potty around 8 pm and crate them.
