Kathryn, my goodness what a mess that sounds like.

My baking today resulted in an oven mess also. The sweet potatoes oozed from the poke holes and burned all over the racks. I've never had that happen before. I must remember to put something under them next time.

Cleaned up rest of kitchen and got DH to put the garbage out.

Been icing my toe (the one next to the big one) and it continues to get sorer and more purple. The edge of the plate must have come straight down on the top of the middle joint.

Thank you all for your good wishes for DMom. I texted with DSis earlier in the day and tried to call DMom's room half an hour ago when I got home from the library. She did not answer so I'm assuming she is already asleep.

When I couldn't reach DMom, I called DSis. DSis said DMom had a very busy day. The physical therapists already had her out of bed mid-morning, teaching her how to get up without putting weight on that leg. She sat in a regular chair for a couple of hours, so was able to eat lunch out of bed. I think that is wondrous progress considering how late her surgery was last night.

I will go up tomorrow morning. We're all trying to space out our visits so she doesn't have a crowd in her room again.

I've been at the library all day working on the LEGO Club game I made up. I took a break for lunch and DH and I had sandwiches. That also gave me the chance to look up a few more instruction sheets for projects. I think I'll describe the game in AC&N after I eat because this post is getting long -- as usual, I don't know any short stories! -- and I need to eat some supper.

Ds is on his way!

He called while waiting to board but I was out biking so missed it. Dh chatted with him instead. They were boarding late so he's worried about his connection but already it looks like the flight will easily make up the time.

I biked for 30 minutes on my own. I'm looking forward to going places but we ended up driving to the store because dh's bike tire was flat. Again.

I'll be out biking on my own more in the future. It is just easier to go by myself and dh prefers his exercise bike. So he did that for 45 minutes this morning and wasn't as anxious to get out as I was.

Off to bed now. Busy day tomorrow. Paperwork in the morning, meet up with dd in the afternoon, then pick up ds from the airport and dinner out.

Hi everyone! I've got BABYCATS!!! In addition to the one eyed foster kitten, I now have 4 adoptive litter mates for her. They are still in crates because they are nervous about people. There are 3 from one litter and a singleton that I will put together with the previous. DD12 and I made church today, and she wanted two of her friends to come over to see the kittens. When we opened the door, we found that the 3 kittens had escaped their crate. I had to pull two bookcases (full) from the wall, but I got them back where they belonged. I also made it so they can't get there again. While the kids watched a movie, I did the last (known) roof task: screwing on a panel. Getting the tools up took more time than doing the work. Then, park time, and back for sewing. DD's friends love raiding my fabric stash. Unfortunately, they left it all over the living room. I have done some work in the sewing room, what's a little more! I had to take them to church youth group before they had a chance to do much cleanup.

I had the singleton new kitten out while I balanced the checkbook and she met with the one eyed kitten to play. Unfortunately, even though she purrs when I pet her and when she is in my lap, she panics when I pick her up. I tried to catch her, but couldn't. However, I ended up scaring her so much, she returned to her cage, which I closed quickly. Of course now she wants out again and occasionally meows forlornly. The 3 babycats are sleeping peacefully. Last night, for the first time, I allowed the one eyed kitten to stay out at night (she had been in the bathroom) and while I was at church. I did this because 1. she was ready and 2. I might need the bathroom for the other kittens.

I am going to watch a video and do some blanket square crochet now.

I hope Booksaver's Mom recovers quickly and completely.

Awwwww... ...babycats

Awwwww... ...2 guys here getting to meet in person after years of chatting online. (This is audio chat, so personalities and voice are well known.) They are so cute together! Nerd-dom. (The all-grown-up family-man type.) I insisted immediately upon a photograph of the 2 outdoors while we still had sun, and I'm so glad we did. Friend was still just getting used to us right then, but at least this way there's a record if he doesn't get to see us on his return trip. (As you guys know, I just hate it when guys don't seem to get photos taken.) They went off together for a meal at one of our favorite places and thoroughly enjoyed each other, came back to see HRH's computer room and sit and chat about pets, etc., before friend left to continue journey.

An interesting sidelight to this visit is that friend has a problem, which he was quick to share and ask opinion about as soon as he met Tobias. He and wife have approached their limit on pets to take care of, fearing a near hoarding situation. Gee, HRH didn't even know friend had pets - (men! and they call that chatting!) They have 8 all-indoor cats and 4 virtually-indoor dogs, struggling with segregating into 3 different areas of the home to avoid fights. And the dogs are relatively large and unadoptable because of appearance/age, and that's why they have taken them.

So we had a really very interesting chat about housekeeping, really - many ideas shared. Also about budgeting when you have that many animals, strategies that have to be in place. Friend had seen our two side-by-side litterboxes and was amused to learn that HRH keeps up that regimen for one cat. (First is for number one, the second for number two - I am married to an old softie, and fuss-budget.) Friend was laughing about looking around to find our other cats.

Nice to get some extra cleaning done before he arrived. Little spifs.
