Hi everyone! I managed to get up in time for Sunday School, but was waylaid in the hall by the youth minister who is looking for someone to handle the church's social media and website. I told her I would do the website unless she found a real expert. I told her I was not the best person for the twitter/facebook/etc stuff, I don't even use them. After church, I was asked by N if I had heard from S. (These are not even the real INITIALS of the women involved, their names start with the same letter). I had to hedge because S told me that N, who works in the church nursery, had reported her to Child Protective Services about some bruising on her son. His neurological issues make him almost non-verbal, so you can't just ask him what happened. I don't think, based on seeing the son interacting with his mom, that S did anything to him, but it is possible that N is required by law to report such things. It was an ugly mess and S is changing churches. I didn't know what to tell N, I just said she was changing churches, but not why.

I came home, had a good lunch (including vegetables, yeah me!), finished a book, and studied some Java. (For those who didn't read 'Snark alert' yesterday - DD12 is at her dad's this holiday weekend). Now, I am going to figure out if a crocheted doll dress can be salvaged in time for the state fair, resew a seam on the crocheted jacket (also for state fair), and watch a movie from the library. After that, I really must work on DD12's Anna coronation gown for Halloween.

Tomorrow, I will be delivering two kittens to their new home (YEAH!). On the way back, I must visit the pet food place, pharmacy and grocery store, because I may be without my car again. After those are done, I will be stopping by the car repair place. My car will not fix itself, and there is no Elizabeth's Own Car Repair Company, I just don't have that knowledge.

Those storms were crazy, Kathryn. They rolled through here and quickly out over the big pond and on up to you. Some hit us, some didn't. Pretty good day all in all. Ate too much at the clam bake -one ear of corn, one Italian sausage & part of the roll and about 4 salt potatoes (with butter of course). Dh brought home some left over potatoes and I'll cook those for our cookout with DS-R & family tomorrow.

Dh has gone up to listen to the band for a while. I just couldn't combat the mosquitoes any longer and came in -we were at a campfire next door for a while. It's the first time there's been a band on Sunday night -there was a different one last night.

Think I'll meander toward bed ......"but first".......

Dinner was good. We guessed the weather correctly and were able to eat out on the balcony once I dried off the table.

Then dh went to work (it is Monday in NZ and not a holiday) and I biked over to the stores looking for vanilla ice cream for tomorrow. No luck at either local store so I biked home. Dusk comes quickly so I was glad of all the lights on my bike (three white front facing lights, 2 rear tail lights and a flashing light mounted on my helmet.)

I did the kitchen cleanup while watching more episodes of Suits.

I need to do a bit of tidying now and to clean out the fridge. Without a 'compost' day, there's no one day I have to get the leftovers cleaned out (here everything goes in the garbage.) But without that weekly deadline, it appears I don't do it at all.

Edited to add: did the fridge and put away the church stuff and the birthday stuff. Now to head to bed.

My minister friend emailed to say he will be there tomorrow. So that's something positive to look forward to (the news has been getting me down lately.)

Happy anniversary to Mr. & Mrs. Twins!!!

I went to church this morning -- the only one in our family, including ds's family, who made it -- and I told the rest of them to be glad they stayed home. Our 5th Sunday joint service was ALL contemporary and we met in the fellowship hall, sat around tables, and the sermon was on the video screen. Regular preacher, who was present today, on the video screen. She was doing a sort of "object lesson" outdoors, so had taped the sermon. It was a fine service, but after their long, long day and late, late night, dh et. al. would have been very disappointed if they had made the effort to get up and dress for that.

I don't mean to criticize contemporary worship -- it's just not for me/us. My young cousin, who lost her mom this summer, has been attending our local "megachurch" with its ultra-contemporary style, and it has truly been life-changing for her. She will tell anyone how wonderful the people there are and how much love and support she has received, especially since her dmom passed away. I am sooo thrilled that she and her family are happy and involved there... but I prefer the more traditional, quieter style of worship. As dh says, that's why we HAVE different churches, so everyone can find what fits their needs.

After church, I slept a LOT.

Then spent about 3 hours at dcousin's house. Had to make dh's apologies, but I think they all still love him. Duncle did not attend -- it seems he and dyoung cousin I just mentioned (his niece) had some words at the 4th of July gathering and he took great offense and is still pouting. Fortunately, his wife did join us tonight. My dmom was a no-show, and I made her apologies, saying she was attending church and trying so hard to get back in the habit of going. Well. That turned out to be a lie. Talked to dmom after I got home and found out she had not been out of the house today. * sigh * Rain depresses her. She says she has always been this way. I never knew this about her. It seems that now that she is alone, she can barely force herself to get out of bed when she awakes to dark, dreary, rainy weather. I do not understand. She said everybody has something, and this is like my travel phobia. * sigh *

By the time I got home, dh was s2s, and although he still feels miserable, he wanted to go to Wmart, so we wouldn't have to do it tomorrow. So I'm glad that is done.

Tomorrow we are supposed to go to our regular Labor Day event, a sort of family reunion/political rally/singing thing. It will be another day of me chasing dgs, I imagine. But the chicken stew is absolutely amazing, and it is worth the hassle just to get a gallon of stew. Some people buy multiple gallons and freeze it, but we will split a gallon w/ds, and ours will be gone by bedtime, I would dare say.

Elizabeth, that IS an awkward situation w/the ladies at church. Wow. I certainly hope the child is not in danger, but I can see how the nursery worker may have felt she was obligated to report. Life is so complicated these days, isn't it? I can't imagine this sort of thing happening when I was a baby in the nursery.

Hello again! It is really Monday already here, but I think I will remain in Sunday. I finished crocheting and weaving in ends on the doll dress, then found I have no hooks. I will get the hooks when I get the fabric for the Anna coronation ball gown tomorrow. I may have to delay my plans regarding the car in favor of taking Bolita to the vet. She was spayed last week and her incision does not look good. She is still eating and playing and getting into trouble though, so that is a good sign. I need my car Friday, Saturday, and next Monday, so I will have to be careful of how I schedule the visit to the repair shop. However, it will do no one any good to have it die somewhere on the road. I've also worked on some more Java programming, but have not done anything on the Anna bodice. However, since I did figure out how to do the skirt AND the fabric requirements, I consider progress to have been made. It would be nice if Bolita's problem would disappear overnight, but it seems that her immune system is not as good as it should be. (That would explain why she lost her eye). At least she is out of the gene pool.
