It took less than 30 minutes to completely clean up the kitchen. It is like it is magical or something. It was a HUGE mess (full roast beef dinner, 3 veggies, yorkshire puddings, dessert and tea) but the dishwasher is running and the sink has been cleaned.

I also wrote my minister friend because dh wants to head up to his church and I've only got two free weeks between now and Advent. So need to book my friend now.

Dd is home (they were away to a wedding.)

Ds has responded to a request to help Easter Seals kids rock climb tomorrow so I'm relieved to see him looking beyond his pain right now to help others.

Off to bed. Completely knackered.

Hi. What a day. It took me about 4 hours to finish everything today. Boy I wish the house would stay this way. DH asked me what was wrong that it took me so long to do it...I do believe it's the first time he ever paid attention to how much time I put in to all this around here. I told him that the whole time I wasn't feeling well a lot of stuff just got left. A whole lotta cleaning needed done.

So, definitely I need a different plan. I can't clean everything in one swoop. But it always just felt so unfinished if I'd do one job at a time, one room at a time...plus I find it annoying to get out buckets and sweepers, etc. every day for all the chores. When we do things like that, do our houses ever really feel completely all clean, all the areas at the same time?

I noticed also since I've been leaving some spaces go, so has DH. I had to clean out his sink drain as it wasn't draining. Yikes, the gunk in there. I guess it's my perfectionism that makes me unhappy if I get one area done and then see another, I can't be really happy about the one that got done. Oh well, lots to think about.

Hi everyone! DD12 is back with the X now. My house is a complete disaster, because the twin friends came over. It is their last weekend before they move out of town, so I decided to just let them play as long as possible. I will spend tonight reclaiming the house.

Saturday's style show at the state fair was an unmitigated disaster. DD was actually looking forward to it and one of the twins was coming too. We could not get in to the fairgrounds. The paper that was supposed to let me in did not. They sent me to the regular gate, where the line was so long that I was not even near the gate when the thing started! There was still another hour of waiting in the line, and hoping not to run out of gas! PLUS, I would have had to pay for both parking and entrance. NO WAY!!! I did call and apologize (got a machine), but I could think of no way to rescue the situation. I took DD and her friend to the local amusement park instead. We all have season passes there and it was FREE for us.

Two good things:
I got a report on ex foster kitten Bolita, the one eyed babycat that has gone to live with a 250 pound great dane. (Yes, that is heavier than he should be. As part of our adoption process, we contact the current vet, who assures us that the hypothyroid is being treated, along with his obvious tumor.) The dog is accustomed to cats and ignored her when she was brought in, preferring to sniff me and get my attention. Bolita had only seen dogs at adoption clinics and was somewhat nervous around them. She seemed only curious about this one. (Maybe it was so big, she didn't recognize it as a dog?) She has been there a few days and is settling in and doing nicely.

The other good thing initially looked VERY BAD. It looked like a $1300 bill, YIKES!!! However, I could not find a due date on it. I called the customer service, which was closed that late, but the automated system assured me that payment had ALREADY BEEN RECEIVED. I checked my records and, sure enough, there it was. It was actually a receipt, but. dang, it looked like a bill!

I will spend the rest of tonight putting my house back, and hopefully getting at least one strip painted on the Anna dress. I also need to cook some stuff that is in the fridge and move some stuff from fridge to freezer. I think I will start with the cooking/fridge work. If I let that go too long it gets nasty. I also have much job search organizing to do.

LadyMaverick: I looked up your computer problem. You are not alone. Here is a page that has a suggested solution at the top. I hope it works for you.

No, they do not, Harmony... and I sooo understand what you are saying. That is why I feel like I just about have to do all the vacuuming once I get started, and that in itself takes at least an hour. (Just to do the living/public areas of the house, and the master bedroom/bath.) I don't like leaving the vacuum out, and dh doesn't like to see the vacuum sitting out, so once that chore gets started, it needs to be finished. Other things, I could stand to do sorta piece-meal, but my motivation and energy are at such a low right now that I guess to be honest, I can stand it if it's all just forgotten about. Keeping in mind, my house never looks cluttered and messy, so it's not like we're living in an episode of Hoarders... it's just dusty... and sometimes the bathrooms could use a little more s/s than they get. ... and nothing ever gets mopped.

I am having a very difficult time posting b/c ever line or two, a little hand starts pulling on my arm and a little voice starts calling, "Nana, Nana!"

BUT -- I did want to offer (((BIG BIG HUGS))) to Kathryn and ds over this episode w/TGF. Sometimes things like that happen and then they get back together and a wedding follows soon. That happened to one of my d(boy)cousins. Sometimes things like that happen and The Girl is rarely seen again, as happened to ds's xfiance' w/the crazy father, and also the high school girlfriend that I was so attached to. In hindsight, OOOOHHHH, what an blessing it was that neither of those relationships worked out. * whew * But, either way, it is so hard to get through it w/out lots of tears (shed or unshed, depending on the boy) so I do understand. Saying a prayer that all concerned -- including YOU, Kathryn -- find peace re: all of this as soon as possible.

And -- about LO's problem -- LadyM -- have you tried baby oil? Y'all know how I have to put a bandaid over my mole if I wear pantyhose. That's not nearly as tender a spot as LO is dealing with, but I have found that if it doesn't come off when I'm taking my shower, it usually will come off fairly easily if I rub baby oil into it. It has been so long since I wore pantyhose, I am surprised I even remember this. I have practically given up wearing dresses altogether.
Also, must say congratulations on LO's newfound skill. LOL... little boys...

Did I mention to y'all the other day, ds said to me: "You seem to set great store by this potty-training, and (ddil) is in a big hurry to get it done, but it seems to me it's going to make things harder in some ways, for a while at least..."
I said, yes, it would... b/c you have to depend on him to tell you when he has to go, and accidents WILL happen... and he's right, there are no real accidents while a baby is in diapers, you just change them, sometimes at your own convenience... and w/out a diaper, the accidents are much worse... BUT... potty training is one of those things we've all got to get through, right? I mean -- y'all remind me -- we WILL get through it, right? And eventually we won't have accidents? They haven't started yet -- ds plans to give up a ballgame he had planned to go to so they can start together on a weekend that he is home, and they plan for us to keep dgs overnight the following weekend. I told him if ddil is eager to start, fine, just go ahead, give it a try. If after 7 days, dgs is showing no interest/improvement, give it up and try again in a month or two. Is that good advice? :?: My theory is that if he is NOT ready, there is no sense in fighting it, and it might do more harm than good. But if he IS ready, I think a week should be long enough to tell. I don't mean it will be an accomplished deed in a week, but I think they should not push him any longer than that, if it is nothing but frustration for all concerned, you know?

Talked to dmom today... and realized it has been about THREE WEEKS since we've had any face-time... but... oh well. She's not really complaining, but she does keep saying she needs to see dgs. (She found and cleaned up a large toy firetruck that must have belonged to dbro, and she wants to see if dgs likes it.) I was also VERY glad to hear that dmom went to church this morning and then ate at Subway w/two friends.

Tomorrow, I have my retired teachers' lunch... and then Tuesday, mammogram... Wednesday, I do hope I can get our house cleaned up b/c dh just informed me he is playing golf that day... and then Thursday is my big day ;) Homecoming parade. * sigh * wee bit nervous * Friday we will go to the high school ballgame, where my class is meeting for 35th reunion... and Saturday... hmmm...
Saturday -- if ddil is not working Sunday, she will go to college town and I will keep dgs.
IF she IS working an extra shift Sunday, she expects/hopes that I will keep dgs so she can rest.

So -- what seemed to be not so busy a week has filled up pretty well.

And as the sun sets on summer... gee... I don't think I have accomplished ANYTHING. Good grief. I am just totally spinning my wheels around here.
Trying to continue to give myself a break, b/c in the last five months, dh and I have had 3 very close relatives to pass away, and for his dmom and his daunt, we were the main "contact" people. And of course, the stress of settling his dmom's estate is still very much with us.
That said, still... I really need to set some goals and get myself together.

Speaking of which -- I did leave off my P axil last night in hopes of being less drowsy. I am going to try taking it every other night for a few weeks... then maybe every third night, IF I am not going crazy again by skipping nights. I'm already halfing a 20 mg pill to take 10 mg, so I don't think I can cut it any smaller.
I do look forward to cooler days, and the autumn colors, and the fact that the yard won't need mowing much longer! (We don't mow it ourselves, but our yardman has become very unreliable, and since he is such a good family friend, we are very frustrated. He did get it done today, though, so I am happy at the moment.)

WTG, Dove, w/your basement project!

Oh my, (((Dee))) -- that is terrible about the break-ins at churches. You know, my mom's church has someone (a church member, rotating duty) patrolling around their church during all worship services, I believe. Partly b/c they have a HUGE bus ministry, and they are wary of unsupervised young people getting into mischief... but I imagine it helps a lot about anyone lurking w/crime on their mind. I often think about that, and never leave my phone in my car at church. Anyone knows there is virtually a one hour block when no one will see them -- unless the church has patrols. I'm also very nervous about leaving my purse in the car at funerals, and at funeral visitations. Although at visitations, people are constantly coming and going, so the chance of being seen would be pretty great really. Not so much during a funeral itself.
weekdays bring so many nagging responsibilities of phone calls I'm supposed to return, decisions I'm supposed to make, people disappointed that I'm not going along with their ideas, etc. So nice over the weekend to be "shed" of that.
(((Harriet)))

Waving to all... hope y'all have a great Monday!
