Morning y'all..
Wonderful weather here..temps in the low 80's at the moment so I have all the windows and front door open.
My week is beginning to look very busy with the prospect of subbing tomorrow and Wed, plus two evening committments...one to do my combat kickboxing class..a baby shower and block party to take place in front of my house on Sat. I also have several appointments I need to make, and Sweetie and I want to shop for a new mattress.
Somewhere inbetween I need to do a house blessing. However my laundry is all caught up and my refrig is filled so that helps too.
Hawks are a very common sight at my house. We have a large group of Harris Hawks that can be found circling our area most days. They are very social creatures and their fledglings live with their parents till they are three. You usually see at least three hawks flying at a time.
Here, in the valley, people who live close to the desert worry about their little dogs being hunted by the hawks. Some have build covered pens to protect their dogs from being swooped up by them.
Can't say I know anyone how has had this happen to them, but I do know one night, an huge owl did try to swoop down to get my next door neighbor's pup. She is barely 5 pounds. Fortunately at the same time the owl was heading towards the pup my neighbor was about to pick her up. When the owl realized this, he tried to put on his air brakes and crashed into the side of the garage. Lost a few feathers, but otherwise was unharmed.
This owl has lived here since before this land was developed and when we first moved here we would see him hunting most night. As the houses were built he just moved his hunting post from one of the very tall street lights to a tree.
Now coyotes are a different thing. We live on several "traveling" coyote trails and when we first moved here would see them all the time...Now they too have moved a bit away from us, but they still use their main trails to get from one desert area to another. My friend, whos house backs up directly to this trail, did loose one of her small pups to the coyotes. Sweetie and I carry pepper spray when we walk the dogs at night..We've come across coyotes many times, but they are usually shy and take off when they see us. Last night on our walk I could hear the coyotes singing in the not to far off distance, and I love when that happens.
Waving hi to y'all.. I've got to get back to work....I have laundry to flip and I am in the middle of reclaiming my office. Need to stay focused...my laundry basket is filled with items from the other parts of the house that belong here. The "sisters" at work. I've just joined a local group in the area who's members are interested in learning how to hike. This past weekend I took 5 women on a small, first time to them, 3 mile hike on the desert floor. I brought along much of my extra gear to share and now need to get everything back where it belongs...Which is NOT on my floor or in my traveling boxes.

and she's also been known to stroll on top of our block walls. I should say I'm not sure if its a he or a she. She's been sighted many times over the past few years taking her nightly walks. There's a small hill/mountain a quarter of a mile from our house that houses some radio antennas. Last spring the maintence man went up to check them and was chased back into his truck by a very mean and pissed off mama. Seems she had made her den near the radio shack and had a litter of kittens there. So that also means there's got to be a male cat hanging around.
