When we lived,A bit, out in the country, I had some drunk men follow me and the then small kids all away home from town - 20 minutes at least- I felt they were up to no good and drove back to town where they followed me again... and drove by the police station and that was the end of that. scared me bc dh was working where we live now. - we also had one irresponsible neighbor who would shoot right near our house for raccoons with hand guns. I could hear them laughing when i asked them to stop shooting near the house - it was a moonless night and I couldn't see them in the woods.
home.. it's now 3 degrees and I am happy I went shopping to fill up before supposed snow (which I want - after d kids are home)
brought my d mom's suv back to her place before snow really hit home. She let me borrow it - as she has a parking place for a spot downtown (plus I like it better than my suv - evil grin) .. it took forever to de-ice it - but it is back in it's indoor parking spot.

Re: First Monday of a new year
Got up very late today -9:30. Had an extremely poor night of sleep and so did dh. He's been hobbling all day with his knee. Tried to talk him into putting on a brace, but not so far. Have a feeling he WILL be returning to the orthopedist when he goes back north. He did tell dh to come back if it kept bothering him and they'd do an MRI -did an x-ray in October. But if he keeps this up I have a feeling he may head north earlier than normal.
I've worked on reports (fine tuning mostly) off and on today. Have a couple more to go and then all the financial reports. Two of those are easy, but the two treasurer reports (one for expenditures and one for all accounts) can be troublesome. Also have to wait for those to finish so the auditors can do their thing. I had one report I had to write up today and I have a little confusion on the vote we took at that meeting. Hopefully someone will remember. Certainly not me or dh -and he formed the motion which was seconded and carried. But for some reason after some discussion I have someone else & a 2nd proposing the same thing. That's what I get for not doing it when it was fresh.
Straightened the large entryway today. There's 3 pieces of furniture in there -a melodian, an antique sewing machine and the desk dh made in high school. DD came across a really nice large doily last week and laundered it. She's sure it was from my Mom -know she posted a picture of it on FB and all her cousins were jealous. She wanted a place that would 'honor Grandma'. I cleared the sewing machine and covered the center of it with that doily today. It'll be the first thing she sees when she comes through the door. Think she'll like that spot. I usually put the mail there, but cleared the desk top and will begin putting it there -sensible anyway.
I got bit up by mosquitoes when they had the front door off the other day. My arm's a mess. I always react terribly to them. Perhaps I'll take some Benadryl before going to bed tonight -can't hurt (that or my sleep).
I already sent the council meeting notes to our church secretary. So that's done. Keep checking my email to see if I have any more reports. Hoping so. The 2 coming today should be pretty much copy & paste. Sometimes I have to edit and make corrections.

Blessed that was smart to drive by the police station.
Lived next door to knuckle head state patrol would target pratice over our land unsafely unsettling to do chores with bullets whizzing by. Had to stay inside! My patents called neighbors whos son was the cop.

Re: First Monday of a new year
Home again, finally.
Got to dmom's with a birthday card and the two older girl cousins were there visiting and had brought KFC and a bd cake. Visited with them and dmom and left a little after they did with a little time to spare getting to closing for dsis' house. Stopped at nearby mall and walked through one store - no outerwear but I did buy two cotton turtlenecks and a necklace all well priced. Then went to closing and dsis' house is now officially sold and off my plate. Was too late to go to bank w check but stopped at car dealership and had servicing on my car done - the light for servicing just came on today but I'll be on the road on Wednesday so it's always nice to have the car checked out and in good shape before I get on the road alone.
So home finally. While car was being serviced, I decided to walk but it was too cool for my comfort going upwind. My jacket was in the car but I forgot to get it out...So far, only a little more than 5k steps today.
I was so hungry, so heated up chili to eat while I used computer. Dh is bowling so the house is quiet tonight.
I need to walk ddogs before it gets any darker or colder.

Re: First Monday of a new year
I thought the snow wasn't supposed to start until tonight, but it started at 2. By the time I was ready to go to the post office and library at 4, the roads in Tiny Town were covered and intersections slippery. I had to make 3 tries to get through 1 of the intersections because there was a slight hill leading up to a stop sign, and the sanding trucks weren't out yet. In fact, I still have not heard any maintenance trucks go by the house.
DH and I did go to the diner for the taco special after 5, and that gave his car a long enough run in the cold to assure that it will start in the morning. Whether or not he will be able to get out of the driveway after the car starts will be another story.
I was supposed to have a meeting at the library tomorrow morning when they open at 8:30. I have not had any luck calling the other person, but right now I am assuming that we will move the meeting either later in the day or to Wednesday. I know I'm going to have to shovel my driveway because the snow will be too deep for my car, and I am not willing to shovel first thing in the morning for a volunteer meeting. It will be too cold, and too much risk to my back. The only reason we were meeting that early anyway was because it was convenient for her to meet after taking her boys to school; now it is very likely that school will be either delayed or cancelled.
I have procrastinated on finishing the month-end reports, but will get them off my desk before I go to bed tonight.
Twins'Mom ~ Congratulations on the sale of DSis's house!
Harriet ~ I am using the Task Tracker forms for logging volunteer time, with each bubble meaning 30 minutes.

Re: First Monday of a new year
Wow, y'all stay safe in all that snow and ice.
Twins, congrats for sale of house, know that's one worry off your mind.
Blessed and Nancy, and Sadie, not fair for people to make you feel unsafe in your own homes.
Dee, hope your DH's knee eases up so he won't have to leave early.
Best laid plans...yeah right. Was really tired today from all the work yesterday, so I'd settled in front of the TV for about a minute. DH needed help outside with work on the truck, so there went my rest. We worked all afternoon on a tire on the big truck, it has double wheels on the back and it's hard to reach the valves. We ended up jacking up the truck and removing the outside wheel and grinding the valve...there was something wrong with it... and got it done.
I know all about sore knees. DH had to work with knee pads on and I use a foam pad... then we both have to help each other up and down off the ground. Old age ain't for sissies.
Moved a truck out to the island barge area. That's a long drive out there. I'll be needing to have my eyes checked this year for sure, it's getting really hard for me to see to drive at night. Dinner was great, happy to have it done in the crock pot when we came in from all the work. If I ever got stranded on a desert island, I'd want to have my crock pot with me (and a super market for food and electric service).

Re: First Monday of a new year
Twins, I am sooooooooo happy that the sale of your dsis's house is final. What a relief for you.
Yesterday I spent all day taking the ornaments off of the tree. Today I did laundry and put all the other Christmas decorations, etc. away.
Dh is slowly feeling better. This morning he said he was feeling guilty for not going to work. He felt like he was playing hookie, but he said he soon came to his sense's and realized this is retirement.
I colored my hair awhile ago and I'm waiting for it to dry. I have a hair appointment tomorrow afternoon.
I need to buy groceries tomorrow. Then I can stay home and clean house on Wednesday. It is suppose to be bitter cold that day.
Thursday I have a dentist appointment. It is to start the work for the permanent bridge that I need due to the post in my root canal that is too weak now to hold the the crown much longer. It is on the bottom, next to the last tooth. That crown is wiggly. I will just be glad when it's over. I don't dread the dentist because of pain, I hate having anyone that close to my face plus I always feel like I am chained to the chair. With my claustrophobia, I have to just pray to be able to get through a dentist appointment.
Tomorrow I have to do 2 loads of laundry and then I should be caught up. There are 3 baskets of towels waiting for me to fold them.

Re: First Monday of a new year
Just a quick hello, to say I'm too sick to CUOP. I've cancelled and re-scheduled my colonoscopy and see my primary Dr. later in the week. They'd been out of the office for 2 days, plus the weekend, and everybody's got viruses. It's not "fun" to run a fever, wake up at 2 a.m., from coughing, and spend the wee a.m. hours up. I got to sleep from about 5 - 10 a.m. though, didn't nap. Anyway, I know this is temporary and will pass. It's the muddling through part, that's uncomfortable. Moan, whine, whine, moan.
I can't believe today was the first Monday of the New Year! It sure doesn't seem possible, but it is.
In Aberdeen and Hoqium they had mudslides, take houses off their foundations at 4 a.m. this morning. It's a wonder nobody was killed or seriously injured. They nearly had 7" within 24 hours. The floods and more mudslide threats are there, tonight, they've told many people to evacuate, but a lot are staying put. It's been warm, wet, and mild and in the 50's here today.
Hope everyone has a good night and a terrific Tuesday, too.
Goodnight.
