And thinking with you, that IF dd does settle down THIS TIME... pre-K will be great for dgd.

I am sooo hoping our dgs gets into the 3-yr-old program in our pre-K here, mainly b/c I know it will help his speech, too. He is doing sooo much better, but a stranger would have a hard time understanding him, I'm sure. Of course, at 2 1/2, I doubt that is unusual at all. But he needs the time with other kids too. As we've discussed before, ds/ddil are sorta introverts themselves, and that doesn't bode well for socialization and play dates and all that stuff. I think I told y'all I sorta got my feelings hurt b/c (as far as I know) dgs wasn't invited to a birthday party at church and it looked like most of his age group was. BUT -- when I say most of his age group, that isn't true -- there were 3 kids in the bday family, plus 2 other guests. And both of the other guests have parents who are church staff, just like the bday kid. So -- really, this was a small party and it's no surprise dgs wasn't invited. Anyway, I have to have something to worry about, you know.

I took a long nap and had really strange dreams. Now I know why dmom hates to sleep in the daytime.

Forgot to call ds and tell him to call my dmom earlier, and now it is approaching her bedtime and ds hasn't answered my text. * sigh * I'll call him in a minute. I know he is probably listening to our college coach's talk show right now, as is dh.
Dbil will go to the game with us tomorrow. That's good b/c I won't have to do ANY driving... but bad b/c it will be a more tiresome day for dh -- he probably won't let dbil do any driving, either

Yes, speaking of Marching Orders ... I learned on Saturday that the library director was looking to hire, but having trouble finding anyone who only wanted to work a few hours each week. I thought about it all yesterday, and this morning I decided to go speak to the library director. I asked if she would consider hiring me back. She replied, "In a heartbeat!"

We talked about the schedule, and the tricky part is what tripped us up in the past. The library hours include 3 evenings and every Saturday, and in the past she has tried to find 1 person willing to work all the nights and weekends. I would prefer to work weekdays and only 1 evening, because I spent so many years at previous jobs working nights & weekends, which really destroys family time. She insists she definitely needs to hire someone that will work 2 nights: Mondays and Thursdays. The main difference from before is that she has people to cover all the Saturdays, they like working Saturdays and don't want to give up those hours. I told her I would think about it and get back to her tomorrow.

Then I considered the situation all the time I was out running errands and getting my hair cut. I decided that I can stand working 2 nights as long as the only danger of working Saturdays is the occasional illness or vacation fill-in. I stopped back at the library and told her we can give it a try, and she said that I didn't even have to fill out an application, just a current W4 form for taxes.

So ... I start Thursday at 4. Not the best, since the volunteer library group is trying to get ready for the tea party this weekend, but the children's librarian has been out several days with a virus so work is piling up. I'm hoping I'll earn points right away for being willing to start immediately. We will discuss more on Thursday about the schedule, if there are any other daytime hours that need filling. I will need retraining because a lot has changed in the 3 years since I was on staff before.

Our forecast for Saturday is still good for which I am grateful. We're putting a lot of preparation into the tea party, I would hate to have to reschedule.

Wayne actually requested that I not work tomorrow and I have called in and told them that I won't be there and the evening dispatcher said that they are expecting numerous cancellations for tomorrow.

Another day with nothing to do.

I don't think I ever received my orders today... I have been extremely unproductive. If we go to Wmart on Sunday night, I think my brain says "OFF DAY" on Monday.
And I'll get NOTHING done tomorrow b/c I'll be spending the day as the "buffer" for dh/dbil.
* sigh *
I'll try to get back on track soon though, b/c I was really proud of myself last week.

Long day. But a good one.

The concert was fascinating. Four young conductors had won a chance to attend the workshop under David Zinman. Our National Art Centre Orchestra were the orchestra they'd be conducting. Two of the four used the same piece so we heard it played 6 different times and could get a sense of how the conductor is playing the orchestra, making a different sound come out of it depending on how he/she plays it, just as a musician makes a different sound come out depending on how she/he plays it. So it underscored my feeling that an orchestra is an instrument made up of instruments played by others.

At one point Zinman took the podium because he couldn't get his point across to the student and the difference was amazing.

We just stayed until the first break (they'll be at it for 5 hours today) and then had a bite of lunch, and did the grocery shopping on the way home.

I had 14 emails to respond to when I got back, then I set to work on dinner, making a corn bread, apple pie and the salad (had made the dressing for the salad before we left.) Ds came over and talked with me while I worked in the kitchen and then followed me around as I cleaned up the house.

I had just enough time to read the Bible story for my class tonight and then my friend arrived with his dog. She had been with him at a meeting at a church and was completely out of sorts during the meeting completely at home at my place. She hopped up on the couch with dh and snuggled against her for the whole movie.

I do not recommend The Interview unless you have an affection for Seth Rogen. I especially do not recommend watching it with your former minister! We were all uncomfortable at different parts of the film. But it was funny as well. It was worth every cent we paid to see it - nothing, we watched it on Netflix.)

Dinner went well and despite me wanting to skip class so I could visit longer, my friend insisted I go to school and dropped me off on time.

First class was fun but I had already figured out what the story was about. I'm a quick learner.

Second class was boring as usual but I enjoyed my time with my friend at school. The walk home was really cold - the wind is from the east and seemed bitter. It is just zero but felt colder than that on my face. My new wool Buff solved my cold ear problem and Dad's winter coat solved my cold legs issue, and my new mittens with gloves underneath kept my hands warm so none of me was cold except a bit of skin on my cheeks.

Dh left the clean up until I got home and we worked on that together. Everything is now washed up or in the dishwasher which is running right now.

Off to bed. I'm normally too wired to sleep after class but not tonight!

Booksaver, congrats on getting the job (back)!

I did not have a very good day. Did a few very short things, but did not manage to even do my one project. Just really tired today. DH put some more wood on the fire in the fireplace, but even with the grate pulled across, I didn't want to sleep in bed and not be around in case a log rolled. We're very cautious with the fireplace. So I slept on the couch which didn't turn out well. We must open a side window for air for the fire (or else we get smoke in the room) and I wasn't feeling up to keeping the logs burning...so all morning I got the cold air from the window. If the fire's going well, it feels warm, if not we feel the cold air.

I should have gotten up and put the window down a bit because all that air wasn't needed, but again, I wasn't feeling up to tending any of it. I've ended up with a very sore shoulder where the air hit it. I have a bit of arthritis in my left shoulder I guess, so if I don't keep it warm it aches.

Well, that got long. Sorry. Helped DH make dinner. He said he'd make it but I swear he forgot how to cook. Very surprising to me. He didn't know to start the water for the spaghetti at the same time he was browning the meatballs because the water takes so long to boil. He didn't know to clean out the sink to make room for the colander to drain the noodles, or put a lid on the sauce so it wouldn't bubble all over...

I think I've done too much cooking around here. He needs to learn to get up to speed in the kitchen again!

Dee, do you think your DSon will be in the snow area? I'm not sure how far in from the coast they are expecting it. I'm certainly glad we're here right now!

Thank you for the Australia Day wishes Sunny. I'd been to visit dds friday - monday. Family day/late birthday get together on Saturday with meals and art gallery visit. dd2 came over with her 2 little ones. A quieter Sunday, we called at some stores. Lamb seems to have become a national dish for Australia Day, so dd baked a roast for Sunday night. Sunday was as hot as, so I did not envy her in the kitchen. I was leaving after breakfast on Monday.
I made a surprise visit to a friend on the way.

I'm hoping again to get back into some better habits.
today - I'm back to readings and prayers, yoga and pdoc as tadas.
I'll go put some washing on.
