Monday Makeover

Napped a bit. Knees still hurt.

We are off to dinner and then to take the old deck box to dd.

We assembled the new deck box on the balcony because it won't go through the doors. We may come to regret the purchase but for now it is perfect. It holds everything with leftover room. Including the broom (which was unsightly.)

About media stuff - We used to have U-Verse but eventually it just wasn't worth the $. Dd35 thought we might enjoy amazonprime media when she and dsil gave us a membership for Christmas, but we have not found that to be as helpful as net flix, and only appreciate prime for the shipping, really. I would say net flix is sensible. We have always had a computer in the LR which the resident geek kept connected to the tv's convenient large screen. Lately, with most new computers having an HDMI output, it's getting easier just to hook up the one cable, for both audio and video, to a tv and have the whole net at your beck and call. Also small-space computers getting less expensive. Worth investigating for cost.

Also the free broadcast stations out there offer more and more as things change. For retro, we can receive signals for MeTV and AntennaTV but cannot get the newer CoziTV in our area. Here is the webpage to enter zip and see if Cozi is broadcast in your area.

Had a good visit with the new dr. Will tell about that in H and F. Interesting to hear about The Boston Marathon and see the body type of someone who is serious enough to have been running in it for a decade. Script will be slightly tweaked.

Tweak reminds me of twerk and yesterday's question. Dd says absolutely NO girls twerked at the prom, but the boys did, cutting up and making jokes. I imagine these were the boys who either arrived stag or left that way. I gave a ride home today to a new boy who was in one of dd's after-school clubs. He was also confused by the music at prom. He has recently lived in Belgium, where he says prom music would likely be the techno/electronic synthesized music that is so popular there, and Denmark, where it would have to be pop or disappoint all the teens. Interesting.

I have 2 loads of laundry done & folded ready to put away.
Got 10 eggs both today and yesterday.
We made corn cake aka corn bread for snacks here.

Just ci: to see how everyone is doing.
I had a rough night -- awakened and couldn't go back to sleep, so I've been lazy since I got home from teacher's lunch meeting.

Enjoyed the meeting, our last until September, and then I came home and took a nap. Also had long long long phone conversation w/dmom, about nothing, but she enjoyed talking.
We've eaten supper now and the kitchen is cleaned up, and I am trying to encourage myself to go out and walk before dark.

"Days of Wine and Roses" IS an interesting theme for a high school prom, Harmony. I don't think I've ever seen that movie, but I've heard my dmom talk about it and how horribly sad it was. I think it had a great influence in her being a complete teetotaler, actually.

I don't even remember what the theme of my senior prom was... Junior/senior was "Stairway to Heaven" but I didn't even go to it.

Our local beach is in a cove of sorts, they call it a harbor but it's too shallow for boats. It's usually pretty calm. If one took a boat straight out eventually they'd hit the Gulf. Where we usually go is due West, directly on the Gulf of Mexico and we get whatever weather is out there. There is also a lot of sand and shells and shark's teeth. The local place has no shells and the water looks like weak tea because there are tannins in it from the vegetation.

Elizabeth, I saw the boats on the news; it's good your family wasn't out there. I can't imagine a storm came up so quickly they didn't know it was coming.

Still working here. Helped load/unload truck. Did dinner & dishes. Did a packet of paperwork DH swore was already done and submitted...nope, I knew we'd never done it... so a quick check confirmed... and I got busy on that. We went from no work or little work to a batch of it all at once and everybody wanting stuff done NOW or sooner. And the current job keeps expanding. Oh, well, we'll manage.

Got all the watering done, hosed off the windows and sills while I was at it. It's all so dusty and dry here.

I've had a seesaw kind of day.

First I thought DH was going to take my car for the day, but then he didn't. However, since he's having problems with his car, I decided to stick around home anyway in case he had to call for rescue.

Mid-morning I was working upstairs and didn't hear the phone ring. Came down to find a message on the machine from my boss, saying the library was still without water today (had to shut it off Saturday afternoon) so they weren't sure if they were going to be able to open for patrons.

I was not scheduled to work until 4:45 so I decided to wait a few hours before I called back. By coincidence, they called mid-afternoon while I was in the shower. The message that time was that everything was fixed enough that we could open, come to work at normal time.

The seesaw continued at work, where we alternated between being really busy for awhile and then empty for awhile.

Now I'm trying to decide how hungry I am, since I only ate a snack before work. Do I want a whole sandwich, or just a pear?

Peeking in...

Just showered because I just came back from my fitness group. Been really tired for some reason and napped for 1.5 hrs this afternoon. That never happens.

Have a week of busy stuff that needs to be done. Sweetie decided to sell our other house so I need to make arrangements to remove the contents of what I want. I am donating master bedroom furniture and my dinningroom and hutch to the local group home for kids. They will pick the furniture up. I like the idea that the money will eventually go to the group home.

As far as storms go...I too lived where the sailing accident happened. Though I never sailed, I did have a 27 ft Boston Whaler and spent a lot of time out in the Gulf. Plus I lived on the beach for several years. Strong stroms are known to pop up unannounced. Plus I don't know what the weather report was for that area before the race took place so they may have been prediction the chance of bad weather.

As Elizabeth can tell you the sail boats are pretty big...there are different races for different size boats but these boats look to be over 20 feet long so the boats require strong winds to push them along. More than 40 people ended up in the waters. Some sailors don't wear their life vests while they sail. Perhaps the people that were flipped into the waters were people on other boats viewing the race.

The old life vests can be cumbersome, but now there are new ones that aren't as bad. When you're way out on the Gulf...these sailors were in the Mobile Bay area...you can scan the skies and see where the storms are. I've been able to out run many by watching the horizen and I usually kept my life jacket on, but not always clipped. Its a long swim in to shore..sometimes I was 70 miles out...and remembering that was motivation enough to keep my jacket on

Off to bed... tomorrow is a desk day for sure. Nitter to y'all...see you in the morning

Good evening everyone! I had a lot to do and have not done much of it. I did get some cooking done, laundry needs to be flipped. I have uploaded pattern information to Ravelry. I am rather tired.

My dad's boat is in the 25 to 27 foot range. One reason sailors do not always wear their life vests is that in many places in Mobile Bay, you can simply stand up and walk to shore.
