Kathryn, right now my board travels seem to be going at a pretty good clip. I will say that there have been other days I have noticed a lag. Also this is after whatever board tweak you managed today.

lucylee, property taxes here are truly hurting folks. So often you hear conversation turn to how this family or that family is having to sell off their homeplace, that sort of thing. A 30 percent increase here would be devastating. but your question about sales tax - 7.5. And yes, state income tax.

Sorry about that board closure.

I asked the phpbb software to delete the archives and it went off and overwhelmed the sql database.

At first we thought it was working away so shut the board downs so you wouldn't keep getting errors. Then after a few hours we realized it wasn't grinding away working on anything and we'd have to try and recover the database.

It looks like deleting those threads will be a long process since we can't seem to delete more than one or two days at a time.

Home safely. Had a good day w favorite dcousin. Dsis about the same, ddogs were okay for the day, I think.

Started weeping in vet's office while picking up meds, they had him call me while I was on the road. I believe that ds has exams Thurs and Friday both (what if he flunked? would they pull him out of the graduation line?) so probably not possible to get him home this week. Dd states tho that he "compartmentalizes" well; I need to discuss further with her but right now she and dh are on the phone working on her plane flights to Jordan (yes, finally! And no one is upset so far!)

Will check in tomorrow, need some downtime tonight.

(((Twins))) So much going on in your life right now. Take a moment and breathe. If you were here, I'd push you onto the balcony to look at the beautiful sunset.

(Note I said "onto" the balcony, not "off" the balcony!)

I'm breathing here.

Apparently the threads were all deleted but the database has got corrupted. So far, only the area where I was working and there's a possibility of a quick fix (actually two things to try.)

I will shut the boards down again while I do those fixes and it won't be tonight, probably some early morning when few people are around. Worst comes to worse, we leave the empty threads there (the titles are there but the posts are gone, but the post count remains.)

BTW: when I do the adjustments, it is possible the old timers will see their post count plummet. Maybe, maybe not. The reading I've done says it could go either way. There is a fix but you can be sure I won't be trying it!

Thanks for all the work you are doing on the board, Kathryn. Careful about pushing Twins.
Again.....(((Twins and family)))
We had a fun errand day and stopped for lunch. It's always good to get away together, even for a few hours.
We have no state income tax here, but our sales tax is 9.5% and our property tax is ridiculously high and continues to increase every time the state or local governments need more money for fewer services.

RunKitty & Harriet -- re: property taxes -- YES -- they go up anyway, all the time it seems, b/c of "reassessments." * sheesh * Proponents of the current tax vote say, "Oh, you can always appeal to the Board of Equalization if you think you are assessed too high." Yeah. Lots of luck with that. DH's uncle tried once. Told the board members he would gladly sell any of them his property for what they said it was worth. No one took him up on the offer, of course, and no one acted to lower the assessment.
BUT... good news here... looks like the county has rejected this current proposal approx 5-1 so far... :D
Tomorrow is another day.

Dh left at 2 this afternoon and headed to Colorado. He will have all day tomorrow to sight see and then will head home Thursday.

When I bought the curtains for the guest bedroom I bought 2 sets of 84 length. I used one on the door to the walk in closet. That one had the curtains shrink but not the lining, so today I cut off the lining and re-hemmed it. It was a few inches short, so I cut 2 of the curtains to a shorter length and made a valance for over the door and lowered one of the rods for the curtains. That is done and looks good. Then I used the bottom 2 pieces of 2 curtains and made a pair of shorter curtains. It all looks really nice, finally.

Once I finished with that, I mowed. I had 9 full bags.

Now I need to shower, shave legs, clip nails after removing polish, so I can polish them again. I also need to wash my hair with purifier shampoo so I can color it in the morning.

Better get to the shower, so I can do some cleaning.

How about we give it a few days, Kathryn? (deleting old J&C that is). I for one am not sure I have the posts from when our dShelley passed away but I know they're still there -that was 2009. I'll work on that tomorrow if that's okay?

After I posted the last message I saw that you were probably already doing that process. But when I looked everything was there. I think I've now copied all the posts from the thread for Shelley's funeral and nearly 8 pages of that June's (2009) J&C pages. Think I'm good now. I've read snippets as I've copied and pasted. Now I'm trying to downsize the pages -taking out all the extra stuff. I am reminded anew what a wonderful village we have. I will finish reading all of it over the next few days. I'm sure there's lots I have forgotten. Kathryn's right we keep a wonderful diary here.

A comment from Harriet in the moderators section reminded me to tell you that the files haven't been lost, we just don't have access to them at the moment.

All that was deleted was the archived PWYC threads. And those files still exist in the two backups we made when we moved the boards in July and March. If there is demand, we could put those up in another read-only board. That will give us a place to pop archives, where the size of the data base won't matter because we won't be accessing it all the time to post.

As for J&C, I hadn't even thought of deleting those files. It was only the PWYC. If you look at the numbers of posts, you'll see over 40K for the current PWYC and another 40K for the archive. So almost 3/4 of the posts on this board are PWYC posts. In theory, that's just daily chatter, the 'good' stuff is in the other posts, where we put things we want to keep on file for a while such as our recipes and other tips. And I never considered decluttering those.
