Initial idea would be a new label for a jar of store-bought whole pickles, labeling them "good ol' kerosene pickles". You put a fork into it. You're done.
Everyone laughs and eats with trepidation. (Make sure it opens well first before labeling. You'll ruin it if you have to wrestle it.)

Yes to jello salad, especially green opaque with pineapple tidbits, chopped pecans. This one looks classic but I sorta question so much whip - should still be good and looks right. Absolutely no to the disposable tray, though. Classically, you would mold or use any attractive deep dish.

Lima beans (or simple succotash of limas and kernel corn, maybe okra - not red peppers)

HRH says big whole boiled taters (famously on the table at Bee's) but then he always says potatoes.

A simple Chess Pie.

I have a few errands at dd's, so will check the book. She says she likes the pickles plan the best, btw.

I'm thinking anesthesia too, Mystery. After my heart surgery several years ago I was so horribly sick for some time after. They finally decided it was my body reacting to the anesthesia. Kept telling me, "You shouldn't be this sick!" Well, I was.

Had a prayer request from our church in Lakeland and our pianist has Covid -never vaccinated btw. But then within an hour there was one for our Pastor there who also has tested positive (he was vaccinated). So now I'm wondering how many others might prove positive soon. That's 3 people in less than a day that we know are positive. Pastor says his so far just feels like an 'annoying cold'. Not sure about the other one. Know our DGD's dh is quite sick with his but then he's also battling strep.

I ordered eggplant a la Doordash a few minutes ago - it wasn't ten minutes before dh called to say his drinks out was cancelled and he was coming home, so we could go out. So he's heading on home. The eggplant is usually a very large serving so he'll share if he likes the looks of it.

The cabinets and countertops almost fill our double garage, with the countertops laid flat. A couple are layered. Messaged the guy from last night with photos of countertops laid out intact, and need to know what he's doing. We have new cabinets coming in next week - they ship flat but still.

I'm trying to ignore the fact that we need to decide on countertops and backsplash and other sundry items.

possibilities from the cookbook, to have fun titles and conversation pieces without much preparation:

"Sarah's Succotash" from Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbook:

1 16-oz can lima beans, drained
1 12-oz can whole kernel corn, drained
2 T butter or margarine
1/2 cup light cream
Salt and pepper
Combine, heat through. Serves 6

"Tears on Your Pillow Pie" from Aunt Bee's Mayberry Cookbook:

1/2 cup butter melted
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 T all-purpose flour
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 9-inch unbaked pie shell
Blend first 5 in large bowl, pour in shell. Bake 350 35 mins.
Turn off oven and leave it alone for 45 mins to 1 hour. Serves 6-8

Cornbread is a southern thing is that an option not sure what you all are talking about.

The zoom class leader is negative for that so some good news.

While I was outside limbering up after dozing in the chair;
picked up a branch that fell in the front yard some time since morning.

I did my anti P. tasks cut two boards apx. in half to fit in the trailer or in the shop.
Pruned a bit on the apple tree for my trail to get through.
Put green apples on the ground for squirrels birds deer or whatever wants it.
I need to water in the plant cage.
I got the shed ready to paint on 3/4 ths of one side but it is just to dang hot in the afternoon to consider doing that.

Let the dog out to Pee.
Humidity is down to 19% its been breezy and not so bad out now.
Neighbors have yard clean up day two going on they are still not done.
They let it go then hire people to come in and do a big clean up after the forth not junk just tall grass and weeds limbs.

Testing positive to Covid continues to happen in our little town. Although, I think less and less people are testing and are just treating it as a bad cold.

Dave (the SO of DD46) is at an Australian airport about to board plane to return to USA. Rick (Dave's replacement) has been on site in Australia for 2 weeks and he just texted Dave that he tested positive. Dave did another test, and he is still negative. It is still unknown if Dave will make it home as planned.

I am taking another break (#4) before leaving for church. I will be in the nursery with babies and toddlers tonight.

Oh, sorry, I saw that "main dishes" were taken but missed that deserts were. Oh well, nice recipe anyhow.

Yes, a cake of cornbread would be welcomed. The recipe on the side of the Martha White Mix bag is simple, turns out pretty. Or muffins in a basket.

Early this a.m. I got some organic fertilizer mixed and fed, and it turned out to be well before the rain, which was late.

Extra laundry done today and need to fold that.

HRH's friend Steve came for a short visit. Dd42 and her youngest were over.

YES to cornbread. DO NOT use sugar, (no matter what any recipe tells you) and DO use buttermilk with the Martha White mix. SUPER easy.
Did anyone say sliced tomatoes? I was thinking if you did something like pickles, sliced tomatoes, and maybe deviled eggs would be good accompaniments to that. Kerosene Pickles -- GREAT idea!!!

Well, y'all, I am absolutely NOT feeling like LAZY Lucy tonight! I am feeling like Lucy Who Deserves a Gold Star.
I did NOT visit dmom today, but I talked with her twice and she assured me she was fine and would be fine if I did not visit tomorrow either; that I should definitely attend the luncheon with the new pastor and also go to dgd's ballgame (which was just scheduled today, btw.)
However, today, I have a BUNCH of ta-das:
* texted with pastor re: dmom (Besides doing her pastoral duty to me, the pastor has known my dmom since they were in high school, so she has a personal interest in her as well.)
* texted with daunt re: duncle who had surgery today
* talked to dmom
* s2s, Bible reading, breakfast
* went to banks (ours and dmom's, which are across the street for each other)
* went to drug store
* went to dollar store
* went to Wmart, got new tire installed
* went to other grocery store, picked up ddil's cake
* home, read the paper
* prepared tacos/fixings, everyone made their own, buffet-style
* hosted 9 guests and survived it all
* s/s kitchen afterwards
* went back to town with dh to get local weekly paper
* checked email and corresponded with three people whom I needed to get in touch with

Y'all cross your fingers that I do not look rude tomorrow. Cucumber sandwiches and pasta salad may be Southern, but they are NOT my cup of tea... but I'm looking forward to the fellowship with these ladies and especially the new pastor.
