Re: Seven-Layer Salad Saturday
Same set as me I better get a move on. Half hour to mop or you will have it done before me. I got sidetracked. I'm giving away a bunch of my forest of coleus plants. Cleaned the shelves and behind of plant mess.

Re: Seven-Layer Salad Saturday
Day is going differently - but it's going. I don't think I'm going to go for a jog today. Dh and I are meeting for early dinner in about 1.5 hours. Also, it is now 79*F out there. That's pretty hot for jogging.
I spent 2 hours with Mom. The difference is incredible. I am absolutely shocked. She is a walking advertisement for this hospital. I wonder if she had an infection and/ or dehydration for years?? She was up in her wheelchair - yay! She was almost chatty; she actually said some things to me of her own initiative instead of just responding to questions. She smiled several times, laughed once. Made a couple jokes. She even got irritated with me for helping her feed her at lunch. Never thought I'd be so happy that she was annoyed with me. LOL! She really wanted to do it herself; I was sure she was going to dump the bowl of soup on her lap - but she didn't. She spent most of the time awake with her eyes open and fed herself her lunch, including a brownie. Not pureed, but she could manage it. She eats very slowly and occasionally would close her eyes in the process. I haven't seen her this interactive and engaged for years.
It makes me wonder if she was sick for those years? And I sure want to know how to make sure that doesn't happen again. She drank about 2 cups of liquid during the 2 hours I was with her.

Helia, what a wonderful praise report!
WTG, Laura and LAnn!
Mop is washing, last load of covers in the dryer, had to hang previous ones in living room on a rack as they are still damp but didnβt want to run the dryer again as theyβre impeding my progress.
Drinking water here too
Charging phone
π«·On break playing

Re: Seven-Layer Salad Saturday
Wow, it's great to see how busy it is here today. Not much to report from my end. I won the battle royale against Inner Brat in the end and emerge sparkly clean (me, not the apartment) but it took a lot of games of solitaire on the tablet and the promise of paneer curry sauce on my rice after.
You know that joyous feeling of Saturday morning, when you think that you are still 20 and can clean the apartment in an afternoon and go shopping and do laundry all on the same day? Love that Saturday morning feeling. I can still remember running down 4 flights of stairs to the laundry room and thinking "I don't know why people don't like to do laundry. The machine does all of the work for me." Those were the days, LOL.

Re: Seven-Layer Salad Saturday
Bama, I picture the ants wearing little leather jackets and snapping their fingers in an intimidating manner, waiting for your DH. But he emerges victorious, every time.
Sorry about the pet mess. It's bad enough with one pet, but when multiple pets are in the same state, I can picture that it's a lot.
helia, that is wonderful news about your dmother. She is so much better off being near you.
laurlind, I just have one planter and one small cyclamen at the moment, but the polka dot plants and ivy have grown so big that they make me think of the plant in The Little Shop Of Horrors. I am waiting until I can put it out on the balcony to expand to its hear content. I can picture how your coleus can take over, LOL.
It's been a long day for you, L.Ann. Do you have a rest day tomorrow?
Hi, Peaches.
Time to take Germane out for her walk. It looks beautiful out there.

Re: Seven-Layer Salad Saturday
Hello, everyone!
Just a very quick CI as it's my bedtime, but today I have sprayed my roses and, my big achievement for today was to finally finish that letter to the CMA, proof read and emailed it. It took a *lot* longer than I had anticipated, but it's done and I'm glad I made the effort, as it might help someone. And I've had one of those auto-acknowledgements, so I know it's arrived safely. I probably won't hear any more, but if they want further information they'll be in contact.
I've still got all the other admin jobs to to -maybe some tomorrow? But at least the big one is out of the way.
Night night, everyone!

List the points I wish to raise re their findings so far and interim recommendations - topics I want to comment on - Thank you for your words of encouragement, Helian and FFB!
1) The proposed increased use and expansion
of the role of vet nurses -yes their role can and should be increased, and nurses encouraged to specialise and take more courses / qualifications in their areas of interest, but they should not be used as a form of cheap labour.
2)proposed cap on the price of medicines - should be used with caution - it's where many vet practices make much of their profit. If they can't make profit from here, then they'll have to increase the cost of treatment, consults etc. Yes, they should be able to charge a *reasonable* amount to write a prescription so the drugs can be obtained (more cheaply) elsewhere by the customer ( not sure what a "reasonable " amount would be, as Petplan picks up the tab for Fred's meds, so I get them direct from the vet)
3)if the prices of various treatments has to be listed online, then what the price for treatment /procedure actually includes should also be listed eg follow -up consults after a procedure, so customers know they are comparing like with like (give the example of Matilda's teeth where her follow up and pain relief were included, whereas the vet a friend of DF PM goes to doesn't include either).
4)Vets should have freedom to prescribe and treat as they think is best for the animal, and work with the owner's situation and the animal's condition to provide "contextualised care" for the animal, and not unnecessarily constrained or pressurised by "company policy" to offer a set treatment / drugs that may not always be in the animal's best interest. Also, emphasise there needs to be a drive to encourage more people to take out insurance and understand the different types and what they cover. (I think we have a big cultural problem here because we have the NHS for people, which, despite its problems, means that medical treatment is free at the point of use. So we are shielded from the "real" cost of things, so it can understandably come as a big shock).
5)Since the CMA announced its investigation last year, there has been a big increase in abusive behaviour from customers towards staff, leading to a much higher level of anxiety amongst staff, many of whom are young women. (I often witness this when I'm taking an animal for an appointment, picking up meds etc) This needs to be stamped out and made completely unacceptable, as everyone should feel safe when they're at work.
6) anything else?

Re: Seven-Layer Salad Saturday
Great job, kittykatt, now youβll sleep even better with that off your mind.
Enjoy your walk, Dogged. Apparently the ants have won since dh has not returned. Oh wellβ¦ Yeah the pets ganged up on me today, one or both dogs had diarrhea and I woke to that, Tux did his usual #1&2 in the foyer, someone left a mess in the main rooms plus one on my new rug and then one cat decided to hurl right in front of me. Fortunately I tagged in dh and we got it all cleaned up. Come to think of it, that may be why he hasnβt come in yet from a job that should have taken maybe 10 minutes and itβs been hours.
I ended up on TikTok watching cat videos. This one sums up cats pretty well. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTjynaLdx/
