I sometimes do bake, because I enjoy it, but it's not a French tradition. We won't see many people around Christmas, so that means we would have to eat what we bake : I'd rather not have sugarified kids inside (by ugly weather) and I don't want to eat too sugary, for my weight and also for my acne-prone skin. And also, how could we keep all the baked goodies safe during four weeks ?? I wonder how you manage. Or maybe you eat baked things during Advent weeks as well ?
Enjoy the photo shooting!
Frenchie, Max Factor and Margaret Astor are (or, as I found out, in Astor's case were) a brand of decorative cosmetics :-)
Re the cookies, families store them usually in cold out-of-the way places - and in many families, it's not allowed to "sample them" before Christmas day, when a shift happens between "don't eat it!" and "why don't you eat it?"   It's expected from (pre)school kids to have a good selection a week before Christmas as kids are asked to "bring a small box of Christmas cookies" to various school functions. I keep ours in the garage and I do allow kids to have some during advent, so we usually need two batches of everything.

We survived both the photo shoot and the shopping. But boy, am I exhausted! A movie night and an early night. On the way to the photoshoot, the twins casually mentioned that there would be a school function tomorrow, so no full day of baking for me. Plans... are to be changed, right?

And this sat in an open tab and now it's after family movie night (Beethoven - yes, the early 1990's movie!) and I really am off to bed!

Hi, all. I'm just going to jump right in here. I have been trying to coax/cajole/command myself to do my errands since Wednesday, and I finally succeeded today. I have picked up the kaleidoscope kits to give out as Christmas presents, picked up some more dog food for Germane, and done the grocery shopping. I am taking a break before I go back out to the car to bring up the rest of the shopping.

As a special treat, I stopped off at the west African restaurant for some jollof rice and chicken, which I shall dive into shortly.

Saturday
Cleaned up after Germane
Spiffed self
Bagged garbage and sent it down the chute
Walked dog
Settled dog in pen
Went to Lee Valley to pick up Christmas presents
Went to west African restaurant to pick up some jollof rice
Went to pet food store and picked up some extra dog food that Germane likes
Went to grocery store
Brought up the first load of groceries
Freed Germane, general rejoicing
Put away the cold groceries
Two of the three light bulbs in my lamp went out. Changed light bulbs.
Now that I can see Germane’s pen properly, cleaned up the dog food that she had spread around and walked through, but kept the pee pads as we can use them still.
